Surah Fussilat (Explained in detail) — سورة فصلت - **Verse:** 35 / 54 · **Juz:** 24 · **Mushaf page:** 479 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-fussilat/verse-35 ## Arabic وَمَا يُلَقّٰيهَٓا اِلَّا الَّذ۪ينَ صَبَرُواۚ وَمَا يُلَقّٰيهَٓا اِلَّا ذُوحَظٍّ عَظ۪يمٍ ## Transcription Wama yulaqqaha illaallatheena sabaroo wama yulaqqahailla thoo haththin AAatheem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley None will obtain it but those who are truly steadfast. None will obtain it but those who have great good fortune. ### Progressive Muslims And none can attain this except those who are patient. And none can attain this except those who are extremely fortunate. ### Shabbir Ahmed Yet, none is granted this quality but those who exercise patience and restraint. And none is granted it except those who become worthy of great happiness and good fortune. This quality can make you outstandingly successful, winning. None can attain this except those who are extremely fortunate. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Only they attain it who forbear, and only a man of great good fortune can achieve it. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good]. ### Muhammad Asad Yet [to achieve] this is not given to any but those who are wont to be patient in adversity: it is not given to any but those endowed with the greatest good fortune! ### Marmaduke Pickthall But none is granted it save those who are steadfast, and none is granted it save the owner of great happiness. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary But none attains to this except those who are steadfast;[1] none attains to this except those endowed with mighty good fortune.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] Although a very efficacious recipe, it is not easy to use. It requires a great will power, resolution, courage, power of endurance and full control over one’s own self. A man may act benevolently in response to an evil done, on an impulse, and there is nothing extraordinary in it. But when a person has to fight for years and years, for the sake of the truth, those mischievous worshipers of falsehood, who do not feel any hesitation in violating any bond of morality, and are also intoxicated with power, it requires extraordinary grit to go on resisting the evil with good, and that too with the superior good, without ever showing any lack of restraint and self-control. Such a work can be accomplished only by him who has resolved with a cool mind to work for the cause of upholding the truth, who has subdued his self to intellect and sense and in whom good and righteousness have taken such deep roots that no malice and mischief of the opponents can succeed in deposing him from his high position. - [2] This is a law of nature. Only a man of very high rank is characterized by these qualities; and the one who possesses these qualities cannot be prevented by any power of the world from attaining to his goal of success. It is in no way possible that the depraved people may defeat him with their mean machinations and shameless devices. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Nor can such a disposition that is characterized with sublimity be attained except by those who exercise patience in adversity, forbearance under provocation and constancy in labour and effort. Nor can such a disposition be attained except by those who are so fortunate as to be divinely endowed with such a privilege. ### Bijan Moeinian None can attain such a greatness except those who practice patience; how fortunate they are. ### Al-Hilali & Khan But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient - and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and of a high moral character) in this world. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint,- none but persons of the greatest good fortune. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran But this cannot be attained except by those who are patient and who are truly fortunate. ### Taqi Usmani And no one is blessed with this (attitude) but those who observe patience, and no one is blessed with this (attitude) but a man of great luck. ### Abdul Haleem but only those who are steadfast in patience, only those who are blessed with great righteousness, will attain to such goodness. ### Arthur John Arberry Yet none shall receive it, except the steadfast; none shall receive it, except a man of mighty fortune. ### E.
