Surah Fussilat (Explained in detail) — سورة فصلت - **Verse:** 17 / 54 · **Juz:** 24 · **Mushaf page:** 477 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-fussilat/verse-17 ## Arabic وَاَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ فَاسْتَحَبُّوا الْعَمٰى عَلَى الْهُدٰى فَاَخَذَتْهُمْ صَاعِقَةُ الْعَذَابِ الْهُونِ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَۚ ## Transcription Waamma thamoodu fahadaynahumfastahabboo alAAama AAala alhudafaakhathat-hum saAAiqatu alAAathabi alhoonibima kanoo yaksiboon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley As for Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness to guidance. So the lightning-bolt of the punishment of humiliation seized them on account of what they earned. ### Progressive Muslims And as for Thamud, We provided them with guidance, but they preferred blindness over guidance. Consequently, the blast of humiliating retribution annihilated them, because of what they earned. ### Shabbir Ahmed And as for Thamud, We showed them the Way, but they preferred blindness over the light of Guidance. At last a humiliating scourge overtook them on account of their misdeeds. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But as to Thamud -The Thamudites-, they preferred to close their minds' eyes than to open their hearts' ears and lift to Allah their inward sight, and so they were seized by a thunderbolt stunning them with disgrace and humiliation in requital of their deeds of iniquity. ### Bijan Moeinian As for the Thamud, I offered them the right path but they chose to stay blind rather than opening their eyes to my light of guidance.
