Surah Fatir (The Originator) — سورة فاطر - **Verse:** 42 / 45 · **Juz:** 22 · **Mushaf page:** 438 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-fatir/verse-42 ## Arabic وَاَقْسَمُوا بِاللّٰهِ جَهْدَ اَيْمَانِهِمْ لَئِنْ جَٓاءَهُمْ نَذ۪يرٌ لَيَكُونُنَّ اَهْدٰى مِنْ اِحْدَى الْاُمَمِۚ فَلَمَّا جَٓاءَهُمْ نَذ۪يرٌ مَا زَادَهُمْ اِلَّا نُفُوراًۙ ## Transcription Waaqsamoo billahi jahda aymanihimla-in jaahum natheerun layakoonunna ahda minihda al-omami falamma jaahum natheerunma zadahum illa nufoora ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They swore by Allah with their most earnest oaths that if a warner came to them they would be better guided than any other community. But then when a warner did come to them, it only increased their aversion, ### Progressive Muslims And they swore by God in their strongest oaths, that if a warner came to them, they would be the most guided of all nations, but when a warner came to them, it only increased their aversion! ### Shabbir Ahmed Thus it is, yet - they used to swear by Allah with their most solemn oaths that if a Warner came to them, they would follow his guidance better than any nation ever could. However, now that the warner did come to them, this only plunged them deeper into aversion. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira The unbelievers swore on oath emphatically that if an admonisher came to them they would be guided better than the other communities. But when the admonisher came to them their aversion for the truth increased, ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And they swore by Allah their strongest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would be more guided than [any] one of the [previous] nations. But when a warner came to them, it did not increase them except in aversion. ### Muhammad Asad As it is, they [who are averse to the truth often] swear by God with their most solemn oaths that if a warner should ever come to them, they would follow his guidance better than any of the communities [of old had followed the warner sent to them]: but now that a warner has come unto them, [his call] but increases their aversion, ### Marmaduke Pickthall And they swore by Allah, their most binding oath, that if a warner came unto them they would be more tractable than any of the nations; yet, when a warner came unto them it aroused in them naught save repugnance, ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Swearing by Allah their strongest oaths they claimed that if a warner came to them they would be better-guided than any other people.[1] But when a warner did come to them, his coming only increased their aversion (to the Truth). _Footnotes_ - [1] Before the advent of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the same thing used to be said by the Arabs, in general, and by the Quraish, in particular, when they witnessed the moral degeneration of the Jews and the Christians. Mention of this saying of theirs has also been made in( Surah Al-Anaam, Ayats 156-157) and in (Surah As-Saffat, Ayats 167-169). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab The infidels make a solemn declaration with an appeal to Allah that if there comes to them a spectacle and warning they would regard him with more reverence than any other people and they would be more prepared than all others to acknowledge the message of truth guiding into all truth. Yet when there came to them the spectacle and the warning their mental attitude -pitifully- made them more averse. ### Bijan Moeinian The disbelievers used to swear to join the religion of God, if it is purified out of its man made amendments. But when a Prophet was sent to them with the authentic/ original religion of God, they plainly refused it! ### Al-Hilali & Khan And they swore by Allâh their most binding oath that if a warner came to them, they would be more guided than any of the nations (before them); yet when a warner (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) came to them, it increased in them nothing but flight (from the truth) ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali They swore their strongest oaths by Allah that if a warner came to them, they would follow his guidance better than any (other) of the Peoples: But when a warner came to them, it has only increased their flight (from righteousness),- ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran They swore by Allah their most solemn oaths that if a warner were to come to them, they would certainly be better guided than any other community. Yet when a warner did come to them, it only drove them farther away— ### Taqi Usmani They had sworn forceful oaths that if a warner would come to them, they would be more receptive to guidance than any other community. But when a warner came to them, it added nothing to them but aversion, ### Abdul Haleem [The idolaters] swore their most solemn oath that, if someone came to warn them, they would be more rightly guided than any [other] community, but when someone did come they turned yet further away, ### Arthur John Arberry They have sworn by God the most earnest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would be more rightly guided than any one of the nations; but when a warner came to them, it increased them only in aversion, ### E. Aziz Surely Allah sustains the heavens and the earth lest they fail (deviate, collapse); and if they should fail, there is none who can uphold them after Him; surely He is the Forbearing, the Forgiving. ### Mahmoud Ghali And they have sworn by Allah their most earnest oaths that indeed in case a constant warner came to them, indeed they would definitely be more (rightly) guided than any one of the nations. Yet as soon as a constant warner came to them, in no way did it increase them in anything except in repulsion, ### George Sale The Koreish swore by God, with a most solemn oath, that if a preacher had come unto them, they would surely have been more willingly directed than any nation: But now a preacher is come unto them, it hath only increased in them their aversion from the truth, ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And they promised with their strongest words by Allah (Himself, they swore) that if a warner came to them, they would follow teachings better than any of the (other) peoples: But when a warner came to them, it has only increased their turning away (from righteousness)— ### Amatul Rahman Omar These people used to swear by Allâh by their most ardent oaths that if ever a Warner should come to them from Allâh they would be more rightly guided than anyone of the nations. But when a Warner did come to them this (coming of his) only increased them in aversion, ### Ali Quli Qarai And they swore by Allah with solemn oaths that if a warner were to come to them they would be better guided than any of the nations. But when a warner came to them it only increased them in aversion, ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Var güçleriyle (billahi diye) Allah'a yemin ettiler ki, eğer onlara uyarıcı gelir ise, mutlaka (geçmiş ve gelecek diğer) ümmetlerin (herhangi) birinden daha çok hidayette olacaklardı. . . Kendilerine bir uyarıcı geldiğindeyse, (bu) onlarda nefretten başka bir şey artırmadı! ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı Yeminlerinin olanca güçleriyle, kendilerine bir uyarıcı, korkutucu gelecek olsa, ümmetlerinin herhangi birinden mutlaka daha doğru olacaklarına dair, Allah'a and içtiler. Ancak onlara bir uyarıcı, korkutucu geldiğinde (bu) nefretlerinden başkasını artırmadı. ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali Eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelirse bütün toplumların en doğruları olacaklarına dair bütün güçleriyle Allah'a yemin ettiler. Ancak kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelince, bu, onların sadece haktan kaçmalarını arttırdı. ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Müşrikler, eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelirse, ümmetlerden herhangi birinden daha çok doğru yol üzere olacaklarına dair en güçlü şekilde Allah'a yemin etmişlerdi. Fakat onlara bir uyarıcı gelince, bu ancak onların nefretlerini artırdı. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Yeminlerinin en kuvvetlisiyle Allaha kasem de etmişlerdi ki: billahi kendilerine inzar edici bir Peygamber gelse her halde ilerideki ümmetlerin en birincisinden daha kabiliyyetli olacaklar, daha iyi yola geleceklerdi, fakat kendilerine inzar edici bir Peygamber geldiği vakıt onlara sırf bir ürküntü artırdı ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Onlar kendilerine uyarıcı bir peygamber gelirse kesinlikle ilerideki ümmetlerin en birincisinden daha kabiliyetli olacaklarına daha çok doğru yola gideceklerine dair Allah'a en ağır yeminleriyle yemin etmişlerdi. Fakat kendilerine uyarıcı bir peygamber geldiği zaman, bu onların yalnızca ürkekliklerini artırdı. ### Gültekin Onan Yeminlerinin olanca güçleriyle, kendilerine bir uyarıcı, korkutucu gelecek olsa, ümmetlerinin herhangi birinden mutlaka daha doğru olacaklarına dair Tanrı'ya and içtiler. Ancak onlara bir uyarıcı, korkutucu geldiğinde (bu) nefretlerinden başkasını arttırmadı. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Onlar, kendilerine azab ile korkutucu (bir peygamber) gelirse her halde (diğer) ümmetlerden herhangi birinden daha ziyade doğru yolu tutacaklarını yeminlerinin bütün hızıyle Allaha andetmişlerdi. Fakat onlara azab ile korkutan (bir peygamber) gelince bu, onların (hakdan) uzaklaşmalarından başka bir şey attırmadı. ### İbni Kesir Var güçleriyle Allah'a yemin ettiler ki; kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelecek olursa; muhakkak ki, ümmetlerin herhangi birinden daha doğru yolda olacaklardır. Fakat kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelince; onların sadece nefretlerini artırdı. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Onlar, (hakikate her fırsatta muhalefet edenler,) eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelirse, o'nun rehberliğine, (kendilerine gönderilen uyarıcıya tabi olan eski) toplumlardan daha çok bağlanacaklarına bütün güçleriyle yemin ederler: İşte şimdi onlara bir uyarıcı geldi, ama (o'nun çağrısı) onların sadece muhalefetlerini artırdı, ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelecek olursa, ümmetlerin içinde en doğru yolda giden biri olacaklarına dair tüm güçleriyle Allah'a yemin etmişlerdi. Onlara bir uyarıcı gelince, nefretle uzaklaşmaktan başka birşey yapmadılar. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali "Andolsun eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı (peygamber) gelirse, her milletten daha çok doğru yolda olacaklar" diye, yeminlerinin bütün gücüyle Allah'a yemin ettiler. Fakat kendilerine uyarıcı gelince, onlara Hak'tan uzaklaşmaktan başka bir katkı sağlamadı. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Yeminlerinin tüm gücüyle Allah'a ant içmişlerdi ki, eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelirse, ümmetlerin herhangi birinden çok daha doğru bir gidiş üzere olacaklar. Fakat uyarıcı onlara gelince, bu onlara nefretle kaçıştan başka bir katkı sağlamadı. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an Bir de o (inkarcı)lar, kendilerine bir uyarıcı geldiği takdirde, doğru yolu bulmakta tüm toplumların önünde yer alacaklarına dair Allah adına var güçleriyle yemin ettiler; fakat onlara bir uyarıcı geldiğinde ise, bu onların sadece tepkilerine artırdı; ### Erhan Aktaş (Eski Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an Eğer kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelirse, diğer toplumlardan kesinlikle daha doğru yolda olacaklarına dair var güçleriyle Allah'a yeminler etmişlerdi. Fakat bir uyarıcı geldiği zaman, nefretlerinden başka bir şey artmadı. ### Süleymaniye Vakfı (Eski Baskı) — Süleymaniye Vakfı Meali Kendilerine uyarıcı gelirse, toplulukların her birinden daha doğru yolda olacaklarına dair bütün güçleriyle yemin ettiler. Kendilerine uyarıcı gelince de sadece nefretleri arttı. ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir (42, 43) Kendilerine bir uyarıcı gelmesi hâlinde, herhangi bir topluluktan daha doğru yolda olacaklarına dair[1] bütün güçleriyle Allah'a yemin etmişlerdi. Fakat onlara uyarıcı gelince bu, onların sadece gerçek(ler)den uzaklaşmalarını yani yeryüzünde kibirlenmelerini ve kötülük tuzağını (kurmalarını) artırdı. Oysa kötü tuzak, sadece sahibinin başına geçer.[2] Onlar öncekilere (uygulanan Allah'ın) kanunundan başka ne bekliyorlar ki! Allah'ın kanununda asla bir değişiklik bulamazsın!
