Surah Az-Zumar (The Groups) — سورة الزمر - **Verse:** 65 / 75 · **Juz:** 24 · **Mushaf page:** 464 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-az-zumar/verse-65 ## Arabic وَلَقَدْ اُو۫حِيَ اِلَيْكَ وَاِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَۚ لَئِنْ اَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِر۪ينَ ## Transcription Walaqad oohiya ilayka wa-ilaallatheena min qablika la-in ashrakta layahbatannaAAamaluka walatakoonanna mina alkhasireen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley It has been revealed to you and those before you: ‘If you associate others with Allah, your actions will come to nothing and you will be among the losers. ’ ### Progressive Muslims And He has inspired to you and to those before you, that if you set up partners, He will nullify all your work, and you will be of the losers. ### Shabbir Ahmed It has already been revealed for you as well as for those before you, "If you fell for idolatry in any form, all your works will be nullified, and indeed you will be among the losers. " ### Muhammad Asad And yet, it has already been revealed to thee [O man,] as well as to those who lived before thee, that if thou ever ascribe divine powers to aught but God, all thy works shall most certainly have been in vain: for [in the life to come] thou shalt most certainly be among the lost. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And verily it hath been revealed unto thee as unto those before thee (saying): If thou ascribe a partner to Allah thy work will fail and thou indeed wilt be among the losers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (Tell them clearly that) it was revealed to you and to all Prophets before you: "If you associate any others with Allah in His Divinity, your works will surely come to naught[1] and you will certainly be among the losers." _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, no act which is performed along with shirk will be adjudged as a righteous act, and no one who, being a mushrik, performs many acts as good acts in his personal judgment, will deserve any reward for them, and his whole life work will be deemed to have gone waste. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We have actuated you O Muhammad as We actuated those Messengers sent before you with the feeling of caution against incorporating with Allah other deities, for if you do you will be denied the prerogative of Prophethood besides the loss you will incur and your hopes will be doomed to disappointment and your deeds to worthlessness. ### Bijan Moeinian My main message revealed to you (Mohammad) and the prophets before you has been: "If you worship others than God, all your deeds will go in vain and you will become a real looser.
