Surah Az-Zumar (The Groups) — سورة الزمر - **Verse:** 17 / 75 · **Juz:** 23 · **Mushaf page:** 459 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-az-zumar/verse-17 ## Arabic وَالَّذ۪ينَ اجْتَنَبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ اَنْ يَعْبُدُوهَا وَاَنَابُٓوا اِلَى اللّٰهِ لَهُمُ الْبُشْرٰىۚ فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِۙ ## Transcription Wallatheena ijtanaboo attaghootaan yaAAbudooha waanaboo ila Allahilahumu albushra fabashshir AAibad ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those who shun the worship of false gods and turn towards Allah will have good news. So give good news to My slaves. ### Progressive Muslims And for those who avoid serving evil, and turn to God in repentance, for them are glad tidings. So give the good news to My servants. ### Shabbir Ahmed As for those who shun the non-divine 'authorities' refraining from idol-worship in all forms, and turn to Allah alone, there are glad tidings. Give, then, this good news to My true servants. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And those who avoid idols lest they serve them and turn to God, for them are glad tidings. Give glad tidings to My creatures. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) But those who have avoided Taghut, lest they worship it, and turned back to Allah - for them are good tidings. So give good tidings to My servants ### Muhammad Asad seeing that for those who shun the powers of evil lest they [be tempted to] worship them, and turn unto God instead, there is the glad tiding [of happiness in the life to come]. Give, then, this glad tiding to [those of] My ser­vants ### Marmaduke Pickthall And those who put away false gods lest they should worship them and turn to Allah in repentance, for them there are glad tidings. Therefor give good tidings (O Muhammad) to My bondmen ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (On the other hand), good tidings await those who eschew serving false gods[1] and penitently return to Allah. (O Prophet), give good tidings to My servants, _Footnotes_ - [1] Taghut is from tughyan and means rebellion. If someone is called taghut (rebellion) instead of taghi (rebel), it would mean that he is a rebel incarnate. For example, if a person is called husn (beauty) instead of hasin (beautiful), it would mean that he has reached perfection in beauty. The deities other than Allah have been called taghut because it is rebellion to worship others besides Allah, but the one who has others worship him, is a rebel of the worst kind. (For further explanation, see(Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 256), (Surah An-Nisa, Ayats 60, 76), (Surah An-Naml, Ayat 36) and the E.Ns thereof). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And those who avoid submission to an entity animate or inanimate other than Allah and do not take it as an object of worship and do not brew falsehood and in lowliest plight repentant stand must expect Allah's intimation of joyful tidings and therefore announce to My worshippers O Muhammad the good news. ### Bijan Moeinian Those who avoid worshipping false deities and devote themselves totally to their Lord alone, for them there is a good news. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Those who avoid At-Tâghût [1] (false deities) by not worshipping them and turn to Allâh (in repentance), for them are glad tidings; so announce the good news to My slaves - ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Those who eschew Evil,- and fall not into its worship,- and turn to Allah (in repentance),- for them is Good News: so announce the Good News to My Servants,- ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And those who shun the worship of false gods, turning to Allah ˹alone˺, will have good news.
