Surah At-Tur (The Mount) — سورة الطور - **Verse:** 44 / 49 · **Juz:** 27 · **Mushaf page:** 524 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-at-tur/verse-44 ## Arabic وَاِنْ يَرَوْا كِسْفاً مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ سَاقِطاً يَقُولُوا سَحَابٌ مَرْكُومٌ ## Transcription Wa-in yaraw kisfan mina assama-isaqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoom ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley If they saw a lump of heaven falling down, they would just say, ‘Banked-up clouds!’ ### Progressive Muslims And if they see a spectacle from the sky, they will Say: "Piled clouds!" ### Shabbir Ahmed Even if they were to see a fragment from the Height falling, they would say, "A dense cloud!" " ### Muhammad Asad AND YET, if they [who refuse to see the truth] were to see part of the sky falling down, they would [only] say, "[It is but] a mass of clouds!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap of clouds. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (So obstinate are they that) even if they were to see some fragments of the sky falling down they would still say: "It is only a mass of cloud."[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This is meant to expose the stubbornness of the Quraish chiefs on the one hand; and to console the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions, on the other. The Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions wished that those people should be shown such a miracle by Allah as should convince them of the truth of his Prophethood. At this, it has been said: Whatever miracle they might see with their eyes, they will in any case misinterpret it and invent an excuse for persisting in disbelief, for their hearts are not at all inclined to believe. At several other places also in the Quran their this stubbornness has been mentioned, e.g. in (Surah Al-Anaam, Ayat 111), it has been said: Even if we had sent down the angels to them and made the dead speak to them and ranged all the things of the world before them (as a proof thereof), they would still have disbelieved, and in( Surah Al-Hijr, Ayat 15): Even if We had opened a gate for them in heaven, and they had begun to ascend through it during day time, they would have said: Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we have been bewitched. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And if it so happens that they see a mass (sometimes devastating) falling from the sky, they would label it as a cumulus nimbus. ### Bijan Moeinian Even a great miracle such as falling a part of the sky will be justified by them as "a mass of cloud advancing.
