_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

وَالطُّورِۙ

Wattoor

By the mount!

وَكِتَابٍ مَسْطُورٍۙ

Wakitabin mastoor

By a Writ inscribed

## Verse 3

ف۪ي رَقٍّ مَنْشُورٍۙ

Fee raqqin manshoor

In a parchment unrolled!

## Verse 4

وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِۙ

Walbayti almaAAmoor

By the house inhabited!

وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِۙ

Wassaqfi almarfooAA

By the roof raised!

وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِۙ

Walbahri almasjoor

By the sea filled!

## Verse 7

اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِـعٌۙ

Inna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAA

The punishment of thy Lord will befall;

## Verse 8

مَا لَهُ مِنْ دَافِـعٍۙ

Ma lahu min dafiAA

There is none to avert it.

## Verse 9

يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَٓاءُ مَوْراًۙ

Yawma tamooru assamao mawra

The day the heaven shakes, reeling,

## Verse 10

وَتَس۪يرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْراًۜ

Wataseeru aljibalu sayra

And the mountains move, passing away:

## Verse 11

فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّب۪ينَۙ

Fawaylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that day, to the deniers

## Verse 12

اَلَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ ف۪ي خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَۢ

Allatheena hum fee khawdinyalAAaboon

— Who in vain discourse are playing —

## Verse 13

يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ اِلٰى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعاًّۜ

Yawma yudaAAAAoona ila narijahannama daAAAAa

The day they are shoved, with violence, into the fire of Gehenna!

## Verse 14

هٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّت۪ي كُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ

Hathihi annaru allateekuntum biha tukaththiboon

“This is the Fire which you denied:

## Verse 15

اَفَسِحْرٌ هٰذَٓا اَمْ اَنْتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

Afasihrun hatha am antum latubsiroon

“Is this sorcery? Or do you not see?

## Verse 16

اِصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُٓوا اَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُواۚ سَوَٓاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْۜ اِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Islawha fasbirooaw la tasbiroo sawaon AAalaykum innamatujzawna ma kuntum taAAmaloon

“Burn therein! And be you patient or be you not patient — it is the same for you; you are but being rewarded for what you did.”

## Verse 17

اِنَّ الْمُتَّق۪ينَ ف۪ي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَع۪يمٍۙ

Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanaAAeem

Those of prudent fear will be in gardens and bliss,

## Verse 18

فَاكِه۪ينَ بِمَٓا اٰتٰيهُمْ رَبُّهُمْۚ وَوَقٰيهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَح۪يمِ

Fakiheena bima atahumrabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheem

Glad at what their Lord has given them: — and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hell —

## Verse 19

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَن۪ٓيـٔاً بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَۙ

Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimakuntum taAAmaloon

“Eat and drink with satisfaction for what you did!”

## Verse 20

مُتَّكِـ۪ٔينَ عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مَصْفُوفَةٍۚ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ ع۪ينٍ

Muttaki-eena AAala sururin masfoofatinwazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeen

They will recline upon couches arranged in rows; and We will marry them to pure, lustrous-eyed maidens,

## Verse 21

وَالَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِا۪يمَانٍ اَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَٓا اَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍۜ  كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَه۪ينٌ

Wallatheena amanoo wattabaAAat-humthurriyyatuhum bi-eemanin alhaqnabihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum minAAamalihim min shay-in kullu imri-in bima kasaba raheen

(And those who heed warning and whose progeny follow them in faith: We will join them with their progeny; and We will not defraud them anything of their deeds; every man is responsible for what he earned.)

## Verse 22

وَاَمْدَدْنَاهُمْ بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Waamdadnahum bifakihatin walahminmimma yashtahoon

And We will supply them with fruit and flesh such as they desire.

## Verse 23

يَتَنَازَعُونَ ف۪يهَا كَأْساً لَا لَغْوٌ ف۪يهَا وَلَا تَأْث۪يمٌ

YatanazaAAoona feeha ka/san lalaghwun feeha wala ta/theem

They will pass from one to another a cup wherein is neither vain speech, nor cause of sin,

## Verse 24

وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَهُمْ كَاَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ۬ مَكْنُونٌ

Wayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanunlahum kaannahum lu/luon maknoon

And there will circulate among them youths of their own, like hidden pearls.

## Verse 25

وَاَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَٓاءَلُونَ

Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

And they will draw near to one another, asking of one another: —

## Verse 26

قَالُٓوا اِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ ف۪ٓي اَهْلِنَا مُشْفِق۪ينَ

Qaloo inna kunna qablufee ahlina mushfiqeen

They will say: “We were before, among our families, apprehensive,

## Verse 27

فَمَنَّ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقٰينَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ

Famanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqanaAAathaba assamoom

“But God was gracious to us, and protected us from the punishment of the scorching wind.

## Verse 28

اِنَّا كُنَّا مِنْ قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُۜ اِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّح۪يمُ۟

Inna kunna min qablu nadAAoohuinnahu huwa albarru arraheem

“We called upon Him before; He is the Virtuous, the Merciful.”

## Verse 29

فَذَكِّرْ فَمَٓا اَنْتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍۜ

Fathakkir fama anta biniAAmatirabbika bikahin wala majnoon

So remind thou! And by the favour of thy Lord thou art neither a soothsayer nor possessed.

## Verse 30

اَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِه۪ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ

Am yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasubihi rayba almanoon

If they say: “A poet — we will wait for the vicissitudes of Fate for him,”

## Verse 31

قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا فَاِنّ۪ي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُتَرَبِّص۪ينَۜ

Qul tarabbasoo fa-innee maAAakum minaalmutarabbiseen

Say thou: “Wait — I am with you among those waiting.”

## Verse 32

اَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ اَحْلَامُهُمْ بِهٰذَٓا اَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَۚ

Am ta/muruhum ahlamuhum bihathaam hum qawmun taghoon

If their reason commands them this: or if they are a people transgressing all bounds:

## Verse 33

اَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۚ بَلْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَۚ

Am yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal layu/minoon

Or if they say: “He has invented it,” — the truth is, they do not believe.

## Verse 34

فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَد۪يثٍ مِثْلِه۪ٓ اِنْ كَانُوا صَادِق۪ينَۜ

Falya/too bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoosadiqeena

Then let them produce a narrative the like thereof, if they be truthful.

## Verse 35

اَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ اَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَۜ

Am khuliqoo min ghayri shay-in am humu alkhaliqoon

If they were created from nothing: or if they were the creators:

## Verse 36

اَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَۚ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَۜ

Am khalaqoo assamawatiwal-arda bal la yooqinoon

Or if they created the heavens and the earth: — the truth is, they are not certain.

## Verse 37

اَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَٓائِنُ رَبِّكَ اَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَۜ

Am AAindahum khaza-inu rabbika amhumu almusaytiroon

If the treasuries of thy Lord are with them: or if they are the overseers:

## Verse 38

اَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ف۪يهِۚ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُب۪ينٍۜ

Am lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehifalya/ti mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeen

Or if they have a stairway on which they can listen in: — then let their listener come with a clear authority.

## Verse 39

اَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَـكُمُ الْبَنُونَۜ

Am lahu albanatu walakumu albanoon

If He has daughters when you have sons:

## Verse 40

اَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ اَجْراً فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَمٍ مُثْقَلُونَۜ

Am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon

Or if thou askest of them a reward: — then are they burdened by debt.

## Verse 41

اَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَۜ

Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon

If they have the Unseen: then are they writing.

## Verse 42

اَمْ يُر۪يدُونَ كَيْداًۜ فَالَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا هُمُ الْمَك۪يدُونَۜ

Am yureedoona kaydan fallatheenakafaroo humu almakeedoon

Or if they intend a plan: then are those who ignore warning those caught in a plan.

## Verse 43

اَمْ لَهُمْ اِلٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللّٰهِۜ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

Am lahum ilahun ghayru Allahisubhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoon

If they have a god other than God: — (Glory be to God above that to which they ascribe a partnership!

## Verse 44

وَاِنْ يَرَوْا كِسْفاً مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ سَاقِطاً يَقُولُوا سَحَابٌ مَرْكُومٌ

Wa-in yaraw kisfan mina assama-isaqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoom

And were they to see pieces of the sky falling, they would say: “Clouds heaped up.”)

## Verse 45

فَذَرْهُمْ حَتّٰى يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذ۪ي ف۪يهِ يُصْعَقُونَۙ

Fatharhum hatta yulaqooyawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoon

Then leave thou them until they meet their day wherein they will be thunderstruck,

## Verse 46

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْن۪ي عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـٔاً وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَۜ

Yawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhumshay-an wala hum yunsaroon

A day in which their plan will avail them nothing, and they will not be helped.

## Verse 47

وَاِنَّ لِلَّذ۪ينَ ظَلَمُوا عَذَاباً دُونَ ذٰلِكَ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Wa-inna lillatheena thalamooAAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahumla yaAAlamoon

And for those who do wrong is a punishment besides that, but most of them know not.

## Verse 48

وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَاِنَّكَ بِاَعْيُنِنَا وَسَبِّـحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ ح۪ينَ تَقُومُۙ

Wasbir lihukmi rabbikafa-innaka bi-aAAyunina wasabbih bihamdirabbika heena taqoom

And be thou patient for the judgment of thy Lord, for thou art before Our eyes. And give thou glory with the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest,

## Verse 49

وَمِنَ الَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَاِدْبَارَ النُّجُومِ

Wamina allayli fasabbihhu wa-idbaraannujoom

And some of the night glorify thou Him, and at the retreat of the stars.
