Surah At-Tawbah (The Repentance) — سورة التوبة - **Verse:** 90 / 129 · **Juz:** 10 · **Mushaf page:** 200 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-at-tawbah/verse-90 ## Arabic وَجَٓاءَ الْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ الْاَعْرَابِ لِيُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ وَقَعَدَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَذَبُوا اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُۜ سَيُص۪يبُ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ ## Transcription Wajaa almuAAaththiroona minaal-aAArabi liyu/thana lahum waqaAAada allatheenakathaboo Allaha warasoolahu sayuseebu allatheenakafaroo minhum AAathabun aleem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley The desert arabs came with their excuses asking for permission to stay, and those who lied to Allah and His Messenger stayed behind. A painful punishment will afflict those among them who are kafir. ### Progressive Muslims And those who had an excuse from among the Nomads came so permission would be given to them, and those who denied God and His messenger simply stayed behind. Those who rejected from them will be inflicted with a painful retribution. ### Shabbir Ahmed And of the wandering Arabs also, there were some who made excuses and came to claim exemption. And those who were false to Allah and His Messenger, merely sat behind. Indeed, those who disbelieve among them have incurred a painful retribution. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Some Arabs of the desert came with ready excuses, asking for leave to stay behind. But those who had lied to God and His Prophet stayed at home doing nothing. So the punishment for those who disbelieve among them will be painful. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And those with excuses among the bedouins came to be permitted [to remain], and they who had lied to Allah and His Messenger sat [at home]. There will strike those who disbelieved among them a painful punishment. ### Muhammad Asad AND THERE came [unto the Apostle] such of the bedouin as had some excuse to offer, [with the request] that they be granted exemption, whereas those who were bent on giving the lie to God and His Apostle [simply] remained at home. And those who lied to Allah and His messenger sat at home. A painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary [9:90] Many of the bedouin Arabs came with excuses, seeking leave to stay behind. Thus those who were false to Allah and His Messenger in their covenant remained behind. A painful chastisement shall befall those of them that disbelieved. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Then there came those of the desert Arabs, full of false excuses, to claim exemption, while those of them who apparently conformed to Islam, but deep in heart they deny Allah and His simply sat at home. Those of them who deny Allah and do not submit to His commands shall be put to the torment laid upon the damned. ### Bijan Moeinian There were also some Arabs (living in the desert) who asked to be excused [from the expedition] and stay behind. Thus, they [showed their true color and] proved that they do not believe in God and His Messenger. Pretty soon they will receive a painful punishment. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And those who made excuses from the bedouins came (to you, O Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) asking your permission to exempt them (from the battle), and those who had lied to Allâh and His Messenger sat at home (without asking the permission for it); a painful torment will seize those of them who disbelieve. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And there were, among the desert Arabs (also), men who made excuses and came to claim exemption; and those who were false to Allah and His Messenger (merely) sat inactive. Soon will a grievous penalty seize the Unbelievers among them. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Some nomadic Arabs ˹also˺ came with excuses, seeking exemption. And those who were untrue to Allah and His Messenger remained behind ˹with no excuse˺. The unfaithful among them will be afflicted with a painful punishment. ### Taqi Usmani And the excuse-makers from the Bedouins came, so that they might be allowed (to stay behind), while those who were false to Allah and His Messengers (just) stayed behind (without seeking permission). A painful punishment is about to fall upon those of them who disbelieve. ### Abdul Haleem Some of the desert Arabs, too, came to make excuses, asking to be granted exemption. There will afflict the ones of them who have disbelieved a painful torment. ### George Sale And certain Arabs of the desert came to excuse themselves, praying that they might be permitted to stay behind; and they sat at home who had renounced God and his apostle. But a painful punishment shall be inflicted on such of them as believe not. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And among the desert Arabs, there were men who made excuses and came to ask for exemption (from fighting) and those who lie to Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad and they only) sat at home. Soon, a painful penalty will get the disbelievers among them. ### Amatul Rahman Omar And those who make false excuses from among the Arabs of the desert, came (with the request) that leave (- to stay away from defensive fighting) might be given them. And those who made false promises to Allâh and His Messenger stayed (at home). There shall befall those who stuck to disbelief from among them a grievous punishment. ### Ali Quli Qarai Some of the Bedouins who sought to be excused came so that they may be granted leave [to stay back]; while those who lied to Allah and His Apostle sat back. Onlardan inkar edenlere pek acı bir azab isabet edecektir. ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali Bedevilerden kendilerine izin verilmesi için özür beyan edenler geldi. Allah'a ve Peygamberine yalan söyleyenler ise, özür bile beyan etmeden geri kalıp oturdular. Onlardan inkar edenlere, can yakıcı azap gelecektir. ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Bedevilerden mazeret ileri sürenler, kendilerine izin verilsin diye geldiler. Allah'a ve Resulüne yalan söyleyenler ise (mazeret bile belirtmeden) oturup kaldılar. Onlardan kafir olanlara elem dolu bir azap isabet edecektir. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Bedevilerden özür bahane edenler, kendilerine izin verilsin diye geldiler, Allaha ve Resulüne yalan söyleyenler de oturdular, muhakkak bunların kafir olanlarına elim bir azab isabet edecek ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Bedevilerden özür bahane edenler, kendilerine izin verilmesi için geldiler. Allah ve Resulüne yalan söyleyenler de oturup kaldılar. Muhakkak onların kafir olanlarına acı bir azap değecek. ### Gültekin Onan Bedevilerden özür belirtenler, kendilerine izin verilmesi için geldiler. Tanrı'ya ve elçisine yalan söyleyenler de oturup kaldı. Onlardan küfredenlere pek acı bir azab isabet edecektir. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Bedevilerden özür dermiyan edenler kendilerine izin verilsin diye geldiler. Allaha ve Resulüne yalan söyleyenler de oturub kaldılar). İçlerinden kafir olanları pek acıklı bir azab çarpacakdır. ### İbni Kesir Bedevilerden özür beyan edenler, kendilerine izin verilsin diye geldiler. Allah'a ve Rasulüne yalan söyleyenler ise oturup kaldı. İçlerinden küfretmiş olanlara elim bir azab isabet edecektir. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Ve bu arada savaşta bağışık tutulmaları yönünde arzedilecek bir takım özürleri olan bedeviler (Elçiye) geldiler; Allahı ve Onun Elçisini yalanlamaya kalkışanlarsa (sadece) evde kalmakla yetindiler. Hakkı inkara yeltenen böylelerine pek çetin bir azap gelip çatacak. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Bedevilerden özür beyan eden kimseler, kendilerine izin verilsin diye geldiler. Allah'a ve Resulü'ne yalan söyleyenler öte oturup kaldılar. Onlardan kafir olanlara acı bir azap dokunacaktır. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Özür bahane eden bedevi Araplar, kendilerin(in savaşa katılmamasın)a izin verilmesi için geldiler; Allah'a ve Elçisine yalan söyleyenler oturdular. Onlardan inkar edenlere, acı bir azab erişecektir. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Göçebe Arapların özür bahane edenleri kendilerine izin verilmesi için geldiler; Allah'a ve resulüne yalan söyleyenler oturdular. Onların küfre sapanlarına korkunç bir azap erişecektir. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an Bedevilerden beyan edecek özrü olanlar, hiç değilse gelip kendilerine (savaşa katılmama) izni verilmesini talep ettiler; Allah ve Rasulü'nü yalanlayanlar ise oturup kaldılar. Onların arasındaki nankörlük edenlere acı bir ceza gelecektir. ### Süleymaniye Vakfı (Eski Baskı) — Süleymaniye Vakfı Meali Mazeret uyduran çöl Arapları, kendilerine izin verilsin diye sana geldiler. Allah'a ve elçisine yalan söyleyenler de oturup beklediler. İçlerinden kafir olanlar yakında acıklı bir azaba çarpılacaklardır. ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir Göçebelerden mazeret ileri sürenler, kendilerine izin verilsin diye gelmişlerdi. Allah'a ve Elçisine yalan söyleyenler ise (evlerinde) oturmuşlardı. Onlardan kâfir olanlara yakında elem verici bir azap gelecektir. ### Erhan Aktaş (10. Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an Özür beyan eden Bedevi Araplar, kendilerine izin verilmesi için geldiler. Allah'a ve Resul'üne yalan söyleyenler ise oturup kaldılar.
