Surah At-Tawbah (The Repentance) — سورة التوبة - **Verse:** 83 / 129 · **Juz:** 10 · **Mushaf page:** 199 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-at-tawbah/verse-83 ## Arabic فَاِنْ رَجَعَكَ اللّٰهُ اِلٰى طَٓائِفَةٍ مِنْهُمْ فَاسْتَأْذَنُوكَ لِلْخُرُوجِ فَقُلْ لَنْ تَخْرُجُوا مَعِيَ اَبَداً وَلَنْ تُقَاتِلُوا مَعِيَ عَدُواًّۜ اِنَّكُمْ رَض۪يتُمْ بِالْقُعُودِ اَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَاقْعُدُوا مَعَ الْخَالِف۪ينَ ## Transcription Fa-in rajaAAaka Allahu ila ta-ifatinminhum fasta/thanooka lilkhurooji faqul lantakhrujoo maAAiya abadan walan tuqatiloo maAAiya AAaduwwaninnakum radeetum bilquAAoodi awwala marratin faqAAudoomaAAa alkhalifeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley If Allah returns you to a group of them, and they ask you for permission to go out, say, ‘You will never go out with me, nor will you ever fight an enemy with me. You were happy to stay behind the first time, so stay behind with those who are left behind.’ ### Progressive Muslims If God returns you to a group of them, and they ask your permission to come with you, then Say: "You will not come with me ever; nor will you fight any enemy with me. You had accepted staying behind the first time, so stay with those who remain behind." ### Shabbir Ahmed If Allah returns you to a situation where they ask your permission to go forth, say, "You shall never again go out with me for any foe. For you were well pleased with sitting still the first time. Indeed, you were satisfied with sitting [at home] the first time, so sit [now] with those who stay behind." ### Muhammad Asad Hence, [O Prophet,] if God brings thee again face to face with some of them," and then they ask thy leave to go forth [to war with thee], say: "Never shall you go forth with me. nor shall you fight an enemy together with me! So sit still, with the useless. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary [9:83] Then if Allah brings you face to face with a party of them, and they ask your leave to go forth (to fight in the Way of Allah), tell them: "You shall not go forth with me, and shall never fight against any enemy along with me. You were well-pleased to remain at home the first time, so now continue to remain with those who have stayed behind." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And if Allah destines you Muhammad to return back safe and secure from battle and the occasion arises for another expedition and any group of these hypocrites ask your permission to join you, you simply refuse and say to them: "Never shall you join me in any expedition nor shall you ever join me in combat or in any military campaign against an enemy. You rejoiced when you remained behind and stayed at home on the first occasion which was indeed crucial, and therefore, you shall again join those who remain behind". ### Bijan Moeinian If by any chance the Lord crosses the path of some of them with yours, and if they ask whether or not they can join you, say: "No way; You will never join me in fight with the enemies. Çünkü siz oturmayı ilk defa hoş gördünüz; öyleyse geride kalanlarla birtikte oturun." ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Eğer Allah seni (Tebükden Medineye), onlardan (orada kalmış olanlardan) bir zümrenin (münafıkların) yanına döndürür de (başka bir savaşa) çıkmıya senden izin isterlerse de ki: "Bundan sonra benimle birlikde kat'iyyen ve ebedi (sefere) çıkamazsınız. Benimle beraber hiç bir düşmanla muhaarebe edemezsiniz. Çünkü siz ilk defa (Tebük seferinden geri kalıb) oturmayı hoş gördünüz. (Artık bundan böyle) siz geri kalan (kadın ve çocuk) larla beraber oturun! ### İbni Kesir Allah, seni onlardan bir topluluğa geri döndürür de; senden savaşa çıkmak için izin isterlerse; de ki: Benimle hiç bir zaman çıkmayacaksınız. Benim yanımda hiç bir düşmanla savaşmayacaksınız. Çünkü siz, baştan oturup kalmaya razı oldunuz. Artık siz, geri kalanlarla birlikte oturun. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Bundan sonra Allah seni olur ki onlardan bazılarıyla yüz yüze getirirse ve onlar da (seninle birlikte savaşa) çıkmak için iznini isterlerse, (onlara) de ki: "Bundan böyle benimle asla (sefere) çıkmayacak ve benimle hiçbir düşmana karşı savaşmayacaksınız!
