Say, ‘An ear of good for you, believing in Allah and believing in the muminun, and a mercy for those among you who have iman.’ As for those who insult the Messenger of Allah, they will have a painful punishment. ### Progressive Muslims And from them are those who harm the prophet, and they Say: "He only listens!" Say: "What he listens to is best for you. He believes in God, and he has trust for the believers, and he is a mercy to those who believe among you." Those who harm the prophet, they will have a painful retribution. ### Shabbir Ahmed And among those (enemies of the Truth) are some who hurt the Prophet and say, " He is only a hearer. " Say, "A listener, that is good for you. He believes in Allah, has faith in the believers, and is a Mercy to those of you who believe." Those who vex and hurt the Messenger of Allah, for them is an awful punishment. (The Messenger is not an emperor or a king who keep guards around them. " Tell them: "He listens for your good, and trusts in God and trusts the faithful, and he is a blessing for those who believe. " Say, "[It is] an ear of goodness for you that believes in Allah and believes the believers and [is] a mercy to those who believe among you." And those who abuse the Messenger of Allah - for them is a painful punishment. ### Muhammad Asad AND AMONG those [enemies of the truth] there are such as malign the Prophet by saying, "He is all ear. " Say: "[Yes,] he is all ear, [listening] to what is good for you! He believes in God, and trusts the believers, and is [a manifestation of God's] grace towards such of you as have [truly] attained to faith. And as for those who malign God's Apostle - grievous suffering awaits them [in the life to come]!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And of them are those who vex the Prophet and say: He is only a hearer. Say: A hearer of good for you, who believeth in Allah and is true to the believers, and a mercy for such of you as believe. Those who vex the messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful doom. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary [9:61] And of them there are some who distress the Prophet, saying: "He is all ears." Tell them: "He listens for your good. He believes in Allah and trusts the believers, and is a mercy for those of you who believe. A painful punishment lies in store for those who cause distress to the Messenger of Allah." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Among these hypocrites are also those who prejudice the Prophet and label him: "all ears". "He attentively listens to all that is being said, be it false or true; he is easily deceived". Say to them: "He bows down his ear and listens graciously to all that is of advantage to you"; he believes those whose hearts have been touched with the divine hand and he is not deceived by those whom he perceives are lying". "He solemnly believes in Allah and trusts those whose hearts have been touched with the divine hand for whom he is Allah's given mercy". Indeed those who prejudice the Prophet shall suffer the torment laid upon the damned. ### Bijan Moeinian Some hypocrites hurt the prophet when they mockingly say: "This man believes in whatever people tell him" Respond: “Good for you that he does so. ” Know that Mohammad believes in God and trusts the believers. He is a blessing for the true believers. Those who hurt him, should expect a painful punishment. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And among them are men who annoy the Prophet (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and say: "He is (lending his) ear (to every news)." Say: "He listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allâh, has faith in the believers, and is a mercy to those of you who believe." But those who annoy Allâh’s Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) will have a painful torment. Say, "He listens to what is best for you: he believes in Allah, has faith in the Believers, and is a Mercy to those of you who believe." But those who molest the Messenger will have a grievous penalty. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And there are others who hurt the Prophet by saying, "He listens to anyone." Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He listens to what is best for you. He believes in Allah, has faith in the believers, and is a mercy for those who believe among you.” Those who hurt Allah’s Messenger will suffer a painful punishment. ### Taqi Usmani And among them (the hypocrites) there are those who hurt the Prophet and say, "He is just an ear" (that is, he hears and believes everything). He believes in Allah, and believes (i.e. trusts, reassures) the believers, and (is) a mercy for the ones of you who have believed; and the ones who hurt the Messenger of Allah, for them is a painful torment.". ### George Sale There are some of them who injure the prophet, and say, he is an ear: Answer, he is an ear of good unto you; he believeth in God, and giveth credit to the faithful, and is a mercy unto such of you who believe. De ki: "(Evet,) o, hakkınızda hayırlı olanı (duyup dinlemek için) kulaklarını açık tutuyor. Allaha inanıp müminlere güveniyor; (çünkü) içinizde imana erişenler için (Allahın) rahmeti(nin bir tecellisi)dir o. Çünkü nebiyi incitme ile resulü incitme arasında sonuca etki eden önemli bir fark vardır. Kur'an'da nebi ve resul kavramları birbirleriyle irtibatlı ama farklı anlamlarda kullanılır. Bu sebepledir ki Kur'an'da nebiye mutlak itaatten bahsedilmezken ([Mümtehine 60/12](https://quran.so/60/12)) resule mutlak surette itaat istenir ve bunun Allah'a itaat anlamına geldiği bildirilir ([Nisa 4/80](https://quran.so/4/80)). Bunun uzantısı olarak bu ayette görüldüğü gibi nebiyi incitenler kınanır yahut en fazla uyarılırken resulü incitenler acıklı bir azapla tehdit edilir. Çünkü nebiyi incitme beşeri münasebetlere dair bir eksikliğin tezahürü iken resulü incitme onun tebliğ ettiği şeyi, dolayısıyla Allah'ı hedef alan bir karşı koyuş anlamına gelir. Bu sebeple Muhammed aleyhisselamın etrafındaki insanlar, onunla konuşur yahut tartışırken onun hangi sıfatla konuştuğuna dikkat etmeleri konusunda uyarılmışlardır ([Hucurat 49/2](https://quran.so/49/2)).
