Surah At-Tawbah (The Repentance) — سورة التوبة - **Verse:** 49 / 129 · **Juz:** 10 · **Mushaf page:** 194 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-at-tawbah/verse-49 ## Arabic وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ ائْذَنْ ل۪ي وَلَا تَفْتِنّ۪يۜ اَلَا فِي الْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُواۜ وَاِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُح۪يطَةٌ بِالْكَافِر۪ينَ ## Transcription Waminhum man yaqoolu i/than lee walataftinnee ala fee alfitnati saqatoo wa-innajahannama lamuheetatun bilkafireen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Among them are there some who say, ‘Give me permission to stay. Do not put temptation in my way.’ Have they not fallen into that very temptation? Hell hems in the kafirun. ### Progressive Muslims And from them are those who Say: "Grant me leave, and do not test me. " But it is in the test that they have indeed fallen, and Hell is surrounding the rejecters. ### Shabbir Ahmed Of them is he who says, "Grant me leave, and draw me not into trial. " Have they not fallen into trial already? " Unquestionably, into trial they have fallen. Oh, verily, [by making such a request] they had [already failed in their test and] succumbed to a temptation to evil: and, behold, hell will indeed encompass all who refuse to acknowledge the truth! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Of them is he who saith: Grant me leave (to stay at home) and tempt me not. Surely it is into temptation that they (thus) have fallen.
