_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

اِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُـوِّرَتْۙۖ

Itha ashshamsu kuwwirat

When the sun is wrapped up,

## Verse 2

وَاِذَا النُّجُومُ انْكَدَرَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha annujoomu inkadarat

And when the stars fall,

## Verse 3

وَاِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha aljibalu suyyirat

And when the mountains are set in motion,

## Verse 4

وَاِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha alAAisharu AAuttilat

And when the full-term she-camels are neglected,

## Verse 5

وَاِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha alwuhooshu hushirat

And when the wild beasts are gathered,

## Verse 6

وَاِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha albiharu sujjirat

And when the seas are made to overflow,

## Verse 7

وَاِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha annufoosu zuwwijat

And when the souls are coupled,

## Verse 8

وَاِذَا الْمَوْءُ۫دَةُ سُئِلَتْۙ

Wa-itha almawoodatu su-ilat

And when the infant girl buried alive is asked

## Verse 9

بِاَيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْۚ

Bi-ayyi thanbin qutilat

For what transgression she was killed,

## Verse 10

وَاِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha assuhufunushirat

And when the pages are spread,

## Verse 11

وَاِذَا السَّمَٓاءُ كُشِطَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha assamao kushitat

And when the sky is pulled away,

## Verse 12

وَاِذَا الْجَح۪يمُ سُعِّرَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha aljaheemu suAAAAirat

And when Hell is set ablaze,

## Verse 13

وَاِذَا الْجَنَّةُ اُزْلِفَتْۙۖ

Wa-itha aljannatu ozlifat

And when the Garden is brought near: —

## Verse 14

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَٓا اَحْضَرَتْۜ

AAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat

A soul will know what it has brought.

## Verse 15

فَلَٓا اُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِۙ

Fala oqsimu bilkhunnas

Then do I swear by those retreating:

## Verse 16

اَلْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِۙ

Aljawari alkunnas

The ships withdrawing from view!

## Verse 17

وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا عَسْعَسَۙ

Wallayli itha AAasAAas

And the night when it darkens!

## Verse 18

وَالصُّبْحِ اِذَا تَنَفَّسَۙ

Wassubhi ithatanaffas

And the dawn when it breathes!

## Verse 19

اِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَر۪يمٍۙ

Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem

It is the word of a noble messenger,

## Verse 20

ذ۪ي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَك۪ينٍۙ

Thee quwwatin AAinda theealAAarshi makeen

Possessor of power, with the Lord of the Throne secure,

## Verse 21

مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ اَم۪ينٍۜ

MutaAAin thamma ameen

Obeyed there, and trustworthy.

## Verse 22

وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُونٍۚ

Wama sahibukum bimajnoon

And your companion is not possessed;

## Verse 23

وَلَقَدْ رَاٰهُ بِالْاُفُقِ الْمُب۪ينِۚ

Walaqad raahu bilofuqialmubeen

And he saw him on the clear horizon;

## Verse 24

وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَن۪ينٍۚ

Wama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneen

And he is not niggardly of the Unseen.

## Verse 25

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَج۪يمٍۚ

Wama huwa biqawli shaytaninrajeem

And it is not the word of an accursed satan

## Verse 26

فَاَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَۜ

Faayna tathhaboon

— So whither are you going? —

## Verse 27

اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَم۪ينَۙ

In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameen

It is only a reminder to all mankind,

## Verse 28

لِمَنْ شَٓاءَ مِنْكُمْ اَنْ يَسْتَق۪يمَ

Liman shaa minkum an yastaqeem

For whom among you wills to take a straight path.

## Verse 29

وَمَا تَشَٓاؤُ۫نَ اِلَّٓا اَنْ يَشَٓاءَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَم۪ينَ

Wama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameen

And you will not save that God wills, the Lord of All Creation.
