Surah At-Tahrim (The Prohibition) — سورة التحريم - **Verse:** 6 / 12 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 559 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-at-tahrim/verse-6 ## Arabic يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا قُٓوا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَاَهْل۪يكُمْ نَاراً وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلٰٓئِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَا يَعْصُونَ اللّٰهَ مَٓا اَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ ## Transcription Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooqoo anfusakum waahleekum naran waqooduha annasuwalhijaratu AAalayha mala-ikatunghilathun shidadun la yaAAsoonaAllaha ma amarahum wayafAAaloona mayu/maroon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You who have iman! safeguard yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones. Harsh, terrible angels are in charge of it who do not disobey Allah in respect of any order He gives them and carry out what they are ordered to do. ### Progressive Muslims O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and rocks. Guarding it are stern and powerful Angels who do not disobey God in what He commanded them; and they carry out what they are commanded to. ### Shabbir Ahmed O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! (Family life must be a matter of trust and confidence) so guard yourselves and your families against a Fire whose fuel is people and their stone hearted leaders. Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire whereof the fuel is men and stones, over which are set angels strong, severe, who resist not Allah in that which He commandeth them, but do that which they are commanded. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Believers, guard yourselves and your kindred against a Fire whose fuel is human beings and stones,[1] a Fire held in the charge of fierce and stern angels who never disobey what He has commanded them, and always do what they are bidden.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] This verse tells that a person’s responsibility is not confined to making effort to save himself from the punishment of God but it is also his responsibility that he should so educate and also train to the best of his ability members of his family to become Allah’s favorite servants, who have been entrusted to his care in the natural process of life; and if they might be following a path to Hell, he should try, as much as he can, to correct them. His concern should not only be that his children should lead a happy and prosperous life in the world but, more than that, he should be anxious to see that they do not become fuel of Hell in the Hereafter. According to a tradition reported in Bukhari by Abdullah bin Umar, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Each one of you is a herdsman and is accountable with regard to his herd. The ruler is a herdsman and is accountable with regard to his subjects. The man is a herdsman of his family and is accountable with regard to them. And the woman is a herdsman of her husband’s house and his children and is accountable with regard to them. - [2] "Whose fuel...stone’ probably implies coal. Ibn Masud, Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, Imam Muhammad al-Baqir and Suddi say that this will be brimstone. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab O you Whose hearts reflect the image of religious and spiritual virtues: Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is people and stones, guarded by angels who are hard hearted to the infidels and mighty, potent and strong. They never disobey a command given by Allah and they carry out every action they are enjoined to do alt along. ### Bijan Moeinian O’ you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from being cast into Hellfire of such intensity that will turn the stone into a blaze. Know that the Angles appointed as Hell Keepers are stern and will never disobey God’s command in order to show mercy to the guilty ones. … ### Al-Hilali & Khan O you who believe!
