Surah At-Taghabun (Mutual Disillusion) — سورة التغابن - **Verse:** 9 / 18 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 555 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-at-taghabun/verse-9 ## Arabic يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُكُمْ لِيَوْمِ الْجَمْعِ ذٰلِكَ يَوْمُ التَّغَابُنِۜ وَمَنْ يُؤْمِنْ بِاللّٰهِ وَيَعْمَلْ صَالِحاً يُكَفِّرْ عَنْهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِه۪ وَيُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْر۪ي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهَارُ خَالِد۪ينَ ف۪يهَٓا اَبَداًۜ ذٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظ۪يمُ ## Transcription Yawma yajmaAAukum liyawmi aljamAAi thalikayawmu attaghabuni waman yu/min billahiwayaAAmal salihan yukaffir AAanhu sayyi-atihiwayudkhilhu jannatin tajree min tahtihaal-anharu khalideena feeha abadan thalikaalfawzu alAAatheem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley On the Day He gathers you for the Day of Gathering – that is the Day of Profit and Loss. As for those who have iman in Allah and act rightly, We will erase their bad actions from them and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing under them, remaining in them timelessly, for ever and ever. That is the Great Victory! ### Progressive Muslims The Day when He will gather you, the Day of Gathering. That is the Day of mutual blaming. And whosoever believes in God and does good works, He will remit his sins, and will admit him into paradises with rivers flowing beneath to abide therein forever. Such is the greatest triumph. ### Shabbir Ahmed The Day when He shall gather you all on the Day of the Gathering, that will be the Day of loss and gain. And whoever chooses to be graced with belief, and helps others, Allah will blot out the imprints of his faults and admit him into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, therein to abide forever. That is the Supreme Triumph. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation The day He gathers you for the Day of Gathering: that will be the Day of Mutual Overcoming in Trade. And whoso believes in God and works righteousness, He will remove from him his evil deeds, and make him enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abiding eternally therein forever; that is the Great Achievement. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation The Day when He will gather you; the Day of Gathering; that is the Day of mutual blaming. And whoever believes in God and does good works, He will forgive his sins, and will admit him into estates with rivers flowing beneath them, abiding therein eternally. Such is the great triumph. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament The day will come when He summons you to the Day of Summoning. That is the Day of Mutual Blaming. Anyone who believes in GOD and leads a righteous life, He will remit his sins, and will admit him into gardens with flowing streams. They abide therein forever. This is the greatest triumph. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira The day He will gather you together on the Day of Gathering, will be the day of Judgement. He who believed and did the right, will have his evil deeds expunged by God and admitted to gardens with rivers flowing by, and abide there perpetually. This will be the great achievement of success. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) The Day He will assemble you for the Day of Assembly - that is the Day of Deprivation. And whoever believes in Allah and does righteousness - He will remove from him his misdeeds and admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment. ### Muhammad Asad [Think of] the time when He shall gather you all together unto the Day of the [Last] Gathering - that Day of Loss and Gain! For, as for him who shall have believed in God and done what is just and right, He will [on that Day] efface his bad deeds, and will admit him into gardens through which running waters flow, therein to abide beyond the count of time: that will be a triumph supreme! ### Marmaduke Pickthall The day when He shall gather you unto the Day of Assembling, that will be a day of mutual disillusion. And whoso believeth in Allah and doeth right, He will remit from him his evil deeds and will bring him unto Gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to abide for ever. That is the supreme triumph. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (You shall come to know that) when He will assemble you on the Day of Gathering.[1] That shall be the Day (to determine) mutual gains and losses.[2] Whoever believes in Allah and acts righteously,[3] Allah will have his evil deeds expunged and will admit him to Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Therein they shall abide forever. That is the supreme triumph. _Footnotes_ - [1] The Day of Gathering: the Resurrection, when all human beings born in the world from the beginning of creation till the Last Day will be gathered together simultaneously. This theme has been fully explained in the Quran at several places; e.g. in Surah Houd it has been said: That will be the Day when all the people shall gather together and will witness everything that will happen there. (verse 103). And in Surah Al-Waqiah: Say to them; Surely, the former and the latter, all shall be gathered together one day, the hour of which has already been appointed. (verse 50). - [2] The word yaum-ut-taghabun as used in the original is too vast in meaning to be explained in a word, or even a sentence, of any other language. Of all the names of the Resurrection that occur in the Quran, this name probably is the most meaningful. Therefore, an explanation is necessary to understand its meaning. - [3] Taghabun is from ghabn, which can be pronounced both as ghabn and as ghaban. Ghabn is mostly used concerning commercial and business transactions and ghaban concerning opinion. Lexically, it has other meanings also, e.g. heedlessness, forgetfulness, a person’s being deprived of his share, a man’s harming another inadvertently in business or mutual dealing, etc. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab On some future Day, the Day of Resurrection, Allah shall assemble you. This is the Day of the Throng, the righteous and the wicked thronging to judgment, and he whose heart reflects I the image of religious and spiritual virtues and his works. wisdom and piety, shall Allah forgive him his iniquities and welcome him into gardens of surpassing beauty beneath which rivers flow, wherein he and such persons will have passed through nature to eternity and how befitting and how exulting is the triumph! ### Bijan Moeinian The Day that I (God) gather you all together, will be the Day of counting your gains and losses. The one who believed in God and his overall good deeds (during his worldly life) exceeds his wrongdoings, I (God) will cover his sins and make him enter in the gardens that rivers flows in it. He will stay there forever; this is indeed the greatest accomplishment. ### Al-Hilali & Khan (And remember) the Day when He will gather you (all) on the Day of Gathering, - that will be the Day of mutual loss and gain (i.e. loss for the disbelievers as they will enter the Hell-fire and gain for the believers as they will enter Paradise). And whosoever believes in Allâh and performs righteous good deeds, He will expiate from him his sins, and will admit him to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) to dwell therein forever; that will be the great success. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali The Day that He assembles you (all) for a Day of Assembly,- that will be a Day of mutual loss and gain (among you), and those who believe in Allah and work righteousness,- He will remove from them their ills, and He will admit them to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein for ever: that will be the Supreme Achievement. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran ˹Consider˺ the Day He will gather you ˹all˺ for the Day of Gathering—that will be the Day of mutual loss and gain. So whoever believes in Allah and does good, He will absolve them of their sins and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow, to stay there for ever and ever. That is the ultimate triumph. ### Taqi Usmani (Be mindful of) the day when He will gather you for the Day of Gathering. That will be the Day of loss and gain. Whoever believes in Allah, and does righteously, He will write off his evil deeds, and will admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will live forever. That is the great achievement. ### Abdul Haleem When He gathers you for the Day of Gathering, the Day of mutual neglect, He will cancel the sins of those who believed in Him and acted righteously: He will admit them into Gardens graced with flowing streams, there to remain for ever- the supreme triumph. ### Arthur John Arberry Upon the day when He shall gather you for the Day of Gathering; that shall be the Day of Mutual Fraud. And whosoever believes in God, and does righteousness, God will acquit him of his evil deeds, and admit him into gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to dwell for ever and ever; that is the mighty triumph. ### E. That is the magnificent triumph. ### George Sale On a certain day He shall assemble you, at the day of the general assembly: That will be the day of mutual deceit: And whoso shall believe in God, and shall do that which is right, from him will He expiate his evil deeds, and He will lead him into gardens beneath which rivers flow, to remain therein for ever. This will be great felicity. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed The Day when He assembles you (all) for a Day of Assembly— That will be a day of mutual loss and gain (among you), and (for) those who believe in Allah and do righteous deeds— He will remove from them their sorrows, and He will admit them to Gardens beneath rivers flow, to live in there forever: That will be the supreme achievement. ### Amatul Rahman Omar Beware of the day when He shall gather you together for the Day of Gathering. That will be the Day of the Manifestation of losses. Those who believe in Allâh and act to suit the requirement of it (- the true Faith), will be acquitted of their evil deeds. He will admit them to the Gardens served with running streams. They will abide therein for ever and ever. That is the grand achievement! ### Ali Quli Qarai The day when He will gather you for the Day of Gathering, that will be a day of dispossession. And whoever has faith in Allah and acts righteously, He shall absolve him of his misdeeds and admit him into gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever.
