Surah Ash-Shuraa (Consultation) — سورة الشورى - **Verse:** 6 / 53 · **Juz:** 25 · **Mushaf page:** 482 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ash-shuraa/verse-6 ## Arabic وَالَّذ۪ينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِه۪ٓ اَوْلِيَٓاءَ اللّٰهُ حَف۪يظٌ عَلَيْهِمْۘ وَمَٓا اَنْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِوَك۪يلٍ ## Transcription Wallatheena ittakhathoomin doonihi awliyaa Allahu hafeethunAAalayhim wama anta AAalayhim biwakeel ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley As for those who take others besides Him as protectors, Allah takes care of them. You are not set over them as a guardian. ### Progressive Muslims And those who take allies besides Him, God is responsible for them; and you are not a guardian over them. ### Shabbir Ahmed Now as for those who instead of Him take patrons, Allah is Watcher over them, and you are not a pleader on their behalf. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And those who take allies besides Him: God is custodian over them; and thou art not a guardian over them. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And those who take allies besides Him, God is responsible for them; and you are not a guardian over them. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Those who set up other lords beside Him, GOD is the One in charge of them; you are not their advocate. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Those who have taken protectors other than Him, are watched over by God. It is not for you to be their guardian. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And those who take as allies other than Him - Allah is [yet] Guardian over them; and you, [O Muúammad], are not over them a manager. ### Muhammad Asad NOW AS FOR those who take aught beside Him for their protectors - God watches them, and thou art not responsible for their conduct. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And as for those who choose protecting friends beside Him, Allah is Warden over them, and thou art in no wise a guardian over them. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Those who have taken others than Him as their protectors beside Him,[1] it is Allah Who oversees them; you are no guardian over them.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] The word auliya (sing. wali) as used in the text is very comprehensive in meaning. The different beliefs and all sorts of diverse practices with regard to the false deities held and worshiped by the polytheistic people, have been described as: taking others as auliya (guardians) instead of Allah in the Quran. According to the Quran, a person takes such a one his wali: - [2] (1) Whom he obeys in all matters, whose instructions he carries out and whose ways and customs and rules he follows in all affairs of life (Surah An-Nisa, Ayats 118-120); (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayats: 3,27-30); ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And those who chose to be under the tutelage of others besides Allah, shall He keep them in view. He watches over innocence and folly. You Muhammad are not entrusted to their care nor are you responsible for their ordinary pursuits of life. ### Bijan Moeinian Those who choose other than God as their Lord, God holds them responsible for their wrongdoings and you (Mohammad) are not responsible for their behavior. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And as for those who take as Auliyâ’ (guardians, supporters, helpers, lords, gods, protectors) others besides Him [i.e. they take false deities other than Allâh as protectors, and they worship them] - Allâh is Hafîz (Protector, Watcher) over them (i.e. takes care of their deeds and will recompense them), and you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) are not a Wakîl (guardian or a disposer of their affairs) over them (to protect their deeds). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And those who take as protectors others besides Him,- Allah doth watch over them; and thou art not the disposer of their affairs. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran As for those who take other protectors besides Him, Allah is Watchful over them. And you ˹O Prophet˺ are not a keeper over them. ### Taqi Usmani And those who have adopted patrons instead of Him, Allah is on watch against them, and you are not responsible for them. ### Abdul Haleem As for those who take protectors other than Him, God is watching them; you are not responsible for them. ### Arthur John Arberry And those who have taken to them protectors apart from Him -- God is Warden over them; thou art not a guardian over them. ### E. Aziz And as for those who take guardians besides Him, Allah watches over them, and you are not in charge over them. ### Mahmoud Ghali And the ones who have taken to themselves patrons apart from Him, Allah is Ever-Preserver over them; and in no way are you a constant trustee over them. ### George Sale But as to those who take other gods for their patrons, besides Him, God observeth their actions: For thou art not a steward over them. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And those who take as protectors others besides Him— Allah does watch over them, and you are not the one to decide their affairs. ### Amatul Rahman Omar As for those who have taken to themselves patrons apart from Him, Allâh is watchful over them and goes on keeping the record of the deeds (which serve as a proof) against them.
