Surah Ash-Shuraa (Consultation) — سورة الشورى - **Verse:** 24 / 53 · **Juz:** 25 · **Mushaf page:** 485 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ash-shuraa/verse-24 ## Arabic اَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرٰى عَلَى اللّٰهِ كَذِباًۚ فَاِنْ يَشَأِ اللّٰهُ يَخْتِمْ عَلٰى قَلْبِكَۜ وَيَمْحُ اللّٰهُ الْبَاطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِه۪ۜ اِنَّهُ عَل۪يمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ ## Transcription Am yaqooloona iftara AAala Allahikathiban fa-in yasha-i Allahu yakhtim AAalaqalbika wayamhu Allahu albatila wayuhiqqualhaqqa bikalimatihi innahu AAaleemun bithatiassudoor ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Or do they ask, ‘Has he invented a lie about Allah?’ If Allah willed, He could seal up your heart. By His Words Allah wipes out the false and confirms the truth. He knows what the heart contains. ### Progressive Muslims Or do they Say: "He has fabricated lies about God!" If God willed, He could have sealed your heart. And God erases the falsehood and affirms the truth with His words. He is fully aware of what is inside the chests. ### Shabbir Ahmed Do they say, "He has invented a lie about Allah?" But then, had Allah so willed, He could have made your heart insensitive (10:16). And Allah will wipe out the falsehood and will prove the Truth by His Words. Verily, He is the Knower of all that is in the hearts. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation If they say: “He has invented a lie about God,” — but if God wills, He will seal thy heart; and God eliminates vanity and establishes truth by His words; He knows what is in the breasts. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Or do they say: "He has fabricated lies about God!" If GOD willed, He could have sealed your mind, but GOD erases the falsehood and affirms the truth with His words. He is fully aware of the innermost thoughts. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Do they say he has fabricated a lie about God? He could have sealed your hearts if He pleased; but God blots out the false and vindicates the truth by His dispensations, for He knows the secrets of the hearts. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Or do they say, "He has invented about Allah a lie"? But if Allah willed, He could seal over your heart. And Allah eliminates falsehood and establishes the truth by His words. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts. ### Muhammad Asad DO THEY, perchance, say, "[Muhammad] has attri­buted his own lying inventions to God"? But then, had God so willed, He could have sealed thy heart [forever]: for God blots out all falsehood, and by His words proves the truth to be true. Verily, He has full knowledge of what is in the hearts [of men]; ### Marmaduke Pickthall Or say they: He hath invented a lie concerning Allah? If Allah willed, He could have sealed thy heart (against them). And Allah will wipe out the lie and will vindicate the truth by His words. Lo! He is Aware of what is hidden in the breasts (of men). ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Do they say: "He has forged a lie against Allah?"[1] If Allah so wanted He could seal up your heart.[2] Allah blots out falsehood and confirms the truth by His Words.[3] He is well aware of all the secrets hidden in the breasts (of people).[4] _Footnotes_ - [1] In this interrogative sentence the style is of severe reproach. It means: O Prophet (peace be upon him): Have these people become so bold and fearless that they do not feel any shame in accusing you of inventing a lie, and that too of a heinous sin against Allah? They calumniate you that you are forging the Quran yourself and then falsely attributing to Allah. - [2] That is, such big lies are only uttered by those whose hearts have been sealed up. If Allah wills, He may include you also among them, but it is His mercy that He has kept you away from them. This answer contains a severe satire against the people who were so accusing the Prophet (peace be upon him). It means this: O Prophet, they think that you are a man like them. Just as they are in the habit of uttering any big lie only for the sake of a selfish motive, so they thought you also must have forged a lie for selfish ends. But it is Allah’s mercy that He has not sealed up your heart as He has sealed up theirs. - [3] That is, it is Allah’s way that He does not grant stability to falsehood, and in the long run proves the truth to be true. Therefore, O Prophet (peace be upon him), you should go on doing your mission, without paying any attention to their false accusations. A time will come when this whole falsehood will vanish like dust, and the truth of that which you are presenting will become visible and manifest. - [4] That is, He knows why you are being thus falsely accused and what are the actual motives that are working behind all this struggle that is being made to frustrate and defeat you. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Or do they say: "He -Muhammad- has related to Allah what he has fabricated and fraudulently imitated!" But if Allah has determined that you Muhammad misrepresent Him, He would have blocked searching's of your heart; and if it be His will He would compose your heart with patience to endure their false and slanderous accusation. But Allah effaces and blots out falsehood and endorses and ratifies the truth by His words which to His acts accord; He is Alimun of all private thoughts and feelings reposted in the bosom. ### Bijan Moeinian How dare they to accuse you (Mohammad) of lying [fabricating this Qur’an]? If God wanted, He could have made you resent them [so that you forget about them and do not continue your mission which is guiding them to the right path]; but God has decided to erase the falsehood and present the truth with His own words. God is fully aware of anyone’s most intimate thoughts. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Or say they: "He has invented a lie against Allâh?" If Allâh willed, He could have sealed up your heart (so that you forget all that you know of the Qur’ân). And Allâh wipes out falsehood, and establishes the truth (Islâm) by His Word (this Qur’ân). Verily, He knows well what (secrets) are in the breasts (of mankind). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali What! Do they say, "He has forged a falsehood against Allah"? But if Allah willed, He could seal up thy heart. And Allah blots out Vanity, and proves the Truth by His Words. For He knows well the secrets of all hearts. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Or do they say, "He has fabricated a lie about Allah!"? ˹If you had,˺ Allah would have sealed your heart, if He willed. And Allah wipes out falsehood and establishes the truth by His Words. He certainly knows best what is ˹hidden˺ in the heart. ### Taqi Usmani Is it that they say, "He has forged a lie against Allah"? So, if Allah wills, He may put a seal on your heart. And Allah blots out falsehood and establishes truth with His words. Surely, He is fully aware of what lies in the hearts. ### Abdul Haleem How can they say, ‘He has invented a lie about God’? If God so willed, He could seal your heart and blot out lies: God confirms the Truth with His words. He has full knowledge of what is in the heart- ### Arthur John Arberry Or do they say, 'He has forged against God a lie?' But if God wills, He will set a seal on thy heart; and God blots out falsehood and verifies the truth by His words; He knows the thoughts within the breasts. ### E. Yet in case Allah (so) decides, He will seal your heart; and Allah erases untruth and truthfully (upholds) the Truth by His Words. Surely He is Ever-Knowing of the (inmost thoughts) within the breasts (Literally: what the breasts own). ### George Sale Do they say, Mohammed hath blasphemously forged a lie concerning God? If God pleaseth, he will seal up thy heart: And God will absolutely abolish vanity, and will establish the truth in his words; for He knoweth the innermost parts of men's breasts. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed Or, do they say: "He has made up lies against Allah?" If Allah so willed, He could close up your heart. And Allah removes (false) pride, and proves the Truth by His Words. Verily, He knows well the secrets in all human breasts (hearts). ### Amatul Rahman Omar Rather they say, `He has forged a lie against Allâh (by presenting this Qur'ân). ' If Allâh so willed He would set a seal (against them) upon your heart. But Allâh eradicates falsehood (through you) and establishes the truth by (dint of) His words (-prophecies and revelation). He is indeed, One knowing full well (even) the innermost thoughts of the hearts. ### Ali Quli Qarai Do they say, ‘He has fabricated a lie against Allah’? If so, should Allah wish He would set a seal on your heart, and Allah will efface the falsehood and confirm the truth with His words. Indeed He knows well what is in the breasts. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Yoksa onlar, "(Muhammed) kendi yalanlarını Allah'a isnad etmektedir" mi diyorlar? Eğer Allah dileseydi, senin kalbini (ebediyyen) mühürlerdi. Nitekim Allah batılı silip süpürür ve hakkı sözleriyle ortaya koyar. Gerçek şu ki O, (insanların) kalplerinde olanı tümüyle bilir. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Yoksa "Allah hakkında bir yalan uydurdu" mu diyorlar? Eğer Allah dilerse senin kalbini (şuurunu) kilitler! Allah batılı mahveder ve kendi kelimeleri olarak Hakk'ı sabit kılar! Muhakkak ki O, Esma'sıyla Zat'ınız olarak Aliym'dir! ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı Yoksa onlar: "Allah'a karşı yalan düzüp uydurdu" mu diyorlar? Şüphe yok ki O, bütün sinelerin içyüzünü bilir. ### Gültekin Onan Yoksa onlar: "Tanrı'ya karşı yalan düzüp uydurdu" mu diyorlar? Oysa eğer Tanrı dilerse senin de kalbini mühürler. Tanrı, batılı yok edip ortadan kaldırır ve kendi kelimeleriyle hakkı hak olarak pekiştirir (gerçekleştirir). Çünkü O, sinelerin özünde olanı bilendir. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Yoksa "O, Allaha karşı bir yalan düzdü" mü derler?
