Surah Ash-Shuraa (Consultation) — سورة الشورى - **Verse:** 15 / 53 · **Juz:** 25 · **Mushaf page:** 483 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ash-shuraa/verse-15 ## Arabic فَلِذٰلِكَ فَادْعُۚ وَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَٓا اُمِرْتَۚ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْۚ وَقُلْ اٰمَنْتُ بِمَٓا اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ مِنْ كِتَابٍۚ وَاُمِرْتُ لِاَعْدِلَ بَيْنَكُمْۜ اَللّٰهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْۜ لَـنَٓا اَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ اَعْمَالُكُمْۜ لَا حُجَّةَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْۜ اَللّٰهُ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَنَاۚ وَاِلَيْهِ الْمَص۪يرُۜ ## Transcription Falithalika fadAAu wastaqimkama omirta wala tattabiAA ahwaahum waqul amantubima anzala Allahu min kitabin waomirtuli-aAAdila baynakum Allahu rabbuna warabbukum lanaaAAmaluna walakum aAAmalukum la hujjatabaynana wabaynakumu Allahu yajmaAAu baynanawa-ilayhi almaseer ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley So call and go straight as you have been ordered to. Do not follow their whims and desires but say, ‘I have iman in a Book sent down by Allah and I am ordered to be just between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We have our actions and you have your actions. There is no debate between us and you. Allah will gather us all together. He is our final destination.’ ### Progressive Muslims For that, you shall preach and be upright, as you have been commanded, and do not follow their wishes. And Say: "I believe in all that God has sent down from Scripture, and I was commanded to be with justice between you. God is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds and you have your deeds. There is no argument between us and you. God will gather us all together, and to Him is the ultimate destiny." ### Shabbir Ahmed Because of this (dilemma), then, (O Messenger) summon all mankind. And stand firm as you are commanded, and follow not their wishes. But announce, "I believe in the Book that Allah has revealed, and I am commanded to be just among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We are responsible for our deeds and you are responsible for your deeds - No argument between us and you! (109:6). And keep thou to the path as thou art commanded, and follow thou not their vain desires, but say thou: “I believe in what God sent down of Writ, and I have been commanded to be just among you. God will gather us all together, and to Him is the ultimate destiny." ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament This is what you shall preach, and steadfastly maintain what you are commanded to do, and do not follow their wishes. And proclaim: "I believe in all the scriptures sent down by GOD. I was commanded to judge among you equitably. GOD is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds and you have your deeds. There is no argument between us and you. GOD will gather us all together; to Him is the ultimate destiny." ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Yet to that (law) you should call them, and be constant as commanded. Do not follow their passing whims, but say: "I believe in whatever Scripture God has revealed, and I am commanded to act with equivalence among you. God is our Lord and your Lord. To us our actions, to you your deeds. There is no dispute between you and us. God will gather us all together, and to Him is our returning." ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So to that [religion of Allah ] invite, [O Muúammad], and remain on a right course as you are commanded and do not follow their inclinations but say, "I have believed in what Allah has revealed of the Qur'an, and I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds. There is no [need for] argument between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the [final] destination." ### Muhammad Asad Because of this, then, summon [all mankind], and pursue the right course, as thou hast been bidden [by God]; and do not follow their likes and dislikes, but say: "I believe in whatever revelation God has be­stowed from on high; and I am bidden to bring about equity in your mutual views. God is our Sustainer as well as your Sustainer. To us shall be accounted our deeds, and to you, your deeds. Let there be no contention between us and you: God will bring us all together - for with Him is all journeys’ end." ### Marmaduke Pickthall Unto this, then, summon (O Muhammad). And be thou upright as thou art commanded, and follow not their lusts, but say: I believe in whatever scripture Allah hath sent down, and I am commanded to be just among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. Unto us our works and unto you your works; no argument between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and unto Him is the journeying. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (This being so, O Muhammad), call people to the same religion and be steadfast about it as you were commanded, and do not follow their desires,[1] and say (to them): "I believe in the Book Allah has sent down.[2] I have been commanded to establish justice among you.[3] Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds and you have your deeds.[4] There is no contention between us and you.[5] Allah will bring us all together. To Him all are destined to return." _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, do not make any change nor effect any increase or decrease in this religion only to please them. Do not resort to any compromises with the misguided people on the principle of give and take. Do not make any room in the religion for their whims, prejudices and practices of ignorance in the hope that they would embrace Islam. Let the one who wants to accept, accept the original, pure religion of God, as sent down by Him, straight forwardly; otherwise let him go and enter any hell that he chooses for himself. The religion of God cannot be changed for the sake of the people; if the people are desirous of their own well being and true success, let them change their ways and mold themselves according to it. - [2] In other words, I am not like those schismatic people who believe in some Books sent down by God and disbelieve in others; I believe in every Book sent down by Him. - [3] This sentence has several meanings: - [4] (1) I have been appointed to discard the schisms and adopt true impartiality. I do not like to harbor prejudice in favor of one and against the other schism. I have one and the same kind of relationship with all human beings, and it is the relationship of justice and equity. I am a companion and supporter of everyone who follows the truth, whether he is an utter stranger for me, and an opponent of everyone who follows falsehood, whether he is a neighbor or a close kinsman. - [5] (2) There is no place of distinction for anybody in the system of truth, which I have, been appointed to present before you. It honors everyone equally. It does not contain separate sets of the rights for the kindred and the stranger, the big and the small, the poor and the rich, the noble and the humble. Whatever is good in it is good for everyone, and whatever is sinful and unlawful and criminal in it is sinful, unlawful and criminal for everybody. In its just system, there is no exception even for my own self. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Therefore, present them with inducements to entertain the thoughts of Faith and practical Divinity; and cling to the discourse as you have been commanded, and do not yield to their fruitless desires, and say to them: "I have given credence to all the Books Allah has sent down and in all of them do I believe, and I have been commanded to administer right and justice between you. Allah is our Creator and your Creator. We are accountable for our deeds and you are answerable for yours, no proposition does either of us advance to influence the mind of the other nor is there between us a contest of emulation; in one assembly shall Allah bring us together; He is the end and the purpose for which all of us are destined. ### Bijan Moeinian Therefore, invite them to the same [straight] way and accomplish your mission as you (Mohammad) are commanded and do not compromise and do not follow their whims and say: "I believe in the [the original] Scriptures that God has sent down. I have been commanded to establish justice between you [by reference to a Divine code of justice revealed in Qur’an.] God is our Lord as well as yours. We are all personally responsible for our deeds. There is no dispute between us [as God has made everything clear in Qur’an.] Know well that God one day will gather us together in His court and we will all eventually return to Him." ### Al-Hilali & Khan So unto this (religion of Islâm alone and this Qur’ân) then invite (people) (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم), and stand firm [on Islâmic Monotheism by performing all that is ordained by Allâh (good deeds), and by abstaining from all that is forbidden by Allâh (sins and evil deeds)], as you are commanded, and follow not their desires but say: "I believe in whatsoever Allâh has sent down of the Book [all the holy Books, - this Qur’ân and the Books of the old from the Taurât (Torah), or the Injeel (Gospel) or the Pages of Ibrâhîm (Abraham)] and I am commanded to do justice among you. Allâh is our Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allâh will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Now then, for that (reason), call (them to the Faith), and stand steadfast as thou art commanded, nor follow thou their vain desires; but say: "I believe in the Book which Allah has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord: for us (is the responsibility for) our deeds, and for you for your deeds. There is no contention between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is (our) Final Goal. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Because of that, you ˹O Prophet˺ will invite ˹all˺. Be steadfast as you are commanded, and do not follow their desires. And say, "I believe in every Scripture Allah has revealed. And I am commanded to judge fairly among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We will be accountable for our deeds and you for yours. There is no ˹need for˺ contention between us. Allah will gather us together ˹for judgment˺. And to Him is the final return." ### Taqi Usmani So, (O prophet,) towards that (faith) invite (people), and be steadfast as you are commanded, and do not follow their desires, and say, "I believe in whatever book Allah has sent down. And I have been ordered to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you, your deeds. There is no argumentation between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the final return." ### Abdul Haleem So [Prophet] call people to that faith and follow the straight path as you have been commanded. Do not go by what they desire, but say, ‘I believe in whatever Scripture God has sent down. I am commanded to bring justice between you. God is our Lord and your Lord- to us our deeds and to you yours, so let there be no argument between us and you- God will gather us together, and to Him we shall return.’ ### Arthur John Arberry Therefore call thou, and go straight as thou hast been commanded; do not follow their caprices. Allah will bring us together and to Him is (our) final return." ### Amatul Rahman Omar (Since they are split up and divided, ) call (them) to this (true faith), and go on following the straight path as you have been bidden. Do not follow their vain desires but say, `I believe in what Allâh has revealed of the Book, and I have orders to do justice between you. Allâh is Our Lord as well as your Lord. We shall reap (the fruit of) our deeds and you shall reap (the fruit of) yours. There exists no cause of dispute between us and you. Allâh will gather us together (to judge between us with justice) and towards Him is the (eventual) return (of us all).' ### Ali Quli Qarai So summon to this [unity of religion], and be steadfast, just as you have been commanded, and do not follow their desires, and say, ‘I believe in whatever Book Allah has sent down. I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. Our deeds belong to us and your deeds belong to you. There is no argument between us and you.
