Surah Ash-Shu'ara (The Poets) — سورة الشعراء - **Verse:** 213 / 227 · **Juz:** 19 · **Mushaf page:** 375 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ash-shuara/verse-213 ## Arabic فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ اللّٰهِ اِلٰهاً اٰخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُعَذَّب۪ينَۚ ## Transcription Fala tadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara fatakoona mina almuAAaththabeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley So do not call on any other god along with Allah or you will be among those who will be punished. ### Progressive Muslims So do not call upon any other god with God, else you will be with those punished. ### Shabbir Ahmed Hence, (O Human) Call not any other deity with Allah, or you will be of the doomed. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And call thou not, with God, to another god lest thou be of those punished. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation So do not call upon any other god with God, else you will be with those punished. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Therefore, do not idolize beside GOD any other god, lest you incur the retribution. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished. ### Muhammad Asad Hence, [O man,] do not invoke any other deity side by side with God, lest thou find thyself among those who are made to suffer [on Judgment Day]. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary So do not call any other god beside Allah lest you become of those who will be punished,[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] Just as there could be no concession or favor for the person of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a matter concerning Allah’s religion, so there could be no question of a favor being shown to the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) family or his nearest kinsfolk. Here the case of everybody will be judged on merit, and nobody will be shown any favor on account of his ancestry or relation with somebody else. The accountability of the Hereafter and punishment for deviation and misdeeds are the same for everybody and even the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) nearest kinsfolk are no exception. Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was commanded to warn his relatives and kindred to attain the right belief and to act righteously because they would not escape punishment only by virtue of being his relations. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Therefore, do not invoke another god besides Allah lest you should join those who shall suffer the torment to be laid upon the damned. ### Bijan Moeinian Now, if you do not want to end up with those who will be subjected to the punishment, simply do not worship any other God (in any form and shape such as attachment to the worldly materials, wife, woman, children social status, position at work, the boss, the governor, etc. ) ### Al-Hilali & Khan So invoke not with Allâh another ilâh (god) lest you should be among those who receive punishment. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran So do not ever call upon any other god besides Allah, or you will be one of the punished. ### Taqi Usmani So do not invoke any other god along with Allah, otherwise you will be among those who are to be punished. ### Abdul Haleem So [Prophet] do not invoke any gods beside God, or you will incur punishment. ### Arthur John Arberry So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. ### E.
