Surah As-Sajdah (The Prostration) — سورة السجدة - **Verse:** 24 / 30 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 416 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-as-sajdah/verse-24 ## Arabic وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ اَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِاَمْرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُواۜ وَكَانُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ ## Transcription WajaAAalna minhum a-immatan yahdoonabi-amrina lamma sabaroo wakanoo bi-ayatinayooqinoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We appointed leaders from among them, guiding by Our command when they were steadfast and when they had certainty about Our Signs. ### Progressive Muslims And We made from among them leaders who guided in accordance with Our command, for they were patient and had certainty regarding Our revelations. ### Shabbir Ahmed We appointed among them leaders who led them by Our Command since they were steadfast in their commitment and had conviction in Our Revelations. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And We appointed among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and of Our proofs were certain. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And We made from them leaders who guided in accordance with Our commandment, for they were patient and had certainty regarding Our revelations. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament We appointed from among them imams who guided in accordance with our commandments, because they steadfastly persevered and attained certainty about our revelations. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira When they persevered and firmly believed Our revelations We appointed learned men among them who guided them by Our command. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs. ### Muhammad Asad and [as] We raised among them leaders who, so long as they bore themselves with patience and had sure faith in Our messages, guided [their people] in accordance with Our behest [so, too, shall it be with the divine writ revealed unto thee, O Muhammad. ] ### Marmaduke Pickthall And when they became steadfast and believed firmly in Our revelations, We appointed from among them leaders who guided by Our command. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary and when they remained steadfast and firmly believed in Our Signs, We created among them leaders who guided people by Our command.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, "Whatever progress the children of Israel made and whatever heights they attained by that Book, was not simply due to the reason that a Book had been sent among them. It was not an amulet that they might have hung around their necks and they might have started ascending the steps of glory under its good and protective influence. But the glory was the direct result of their firm faith in the revelations of Allah, and of the patience and perseverance that they showed in following the divine commandments. Among the Israelites, the leadership also belonged to only those who were true believers of the Book of Allah and were not tempted at all by the greed of worldly gains and enjoyments. When in their love of the truth they stood firm against every danger, endured every loss and affliction, and exerted their utmost against every hostile force, from the lusts of their own selves to the external enemies of the true faith, then only did they become the leaders of the world. The object is to warn the disbelievers of Arabia that just as the coming of the Book of Allah had decided the destinies of the children of Israel, so will this Book decide the destinies among you. Now only those people will become the leaders, who will believe in it and follow the truth presented by it patiently and resolutely. Those who turn away from it are destined to end up in failure and wretchedness. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And based on this divine discourse which M?ssa imparted to them We ordained some of them religious leaders and authorities on matters of the law and the doctrine as well as other solemn observances. And We authorized this course after they had exercised patience and forbearance under provocation and bore with others their limitations and after they had hugged Our revelations to their hearts. ### Bijan Moeinian When the Jews believed and developed the patience, I raised among them the leaders to guide them to the right path. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And We made from among them (Children of Israel), leaders, giving guidance under Our Command, when they were patient and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And We appointed, from among them, leaders, giving guidance under Our command, so long as they persevered with patience and continued to have faith in Our Signs. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We raised from among them leaders,[1] guiding by Our command, when they patiently endured and firmly believed in Our signs. ### Taqi Usmani And We appointed leaders from among them who guided (people) under Our command, when they observed patience, and kept firm belief in Our verses. ### Abdul Haleem When they became steadfast and believed firmly in Our messages, We raised leaders among them, guiding them according to Our command. ### Arthur John Arberry And We appointed from among them leaders guiding by Our command, when they endured patiently, and had sure faith in Our signs. ### E.
