_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

وَالصَّٓافَّاتِ صَفاًّۙ

Wassaffati saffa

By those lined up in rows,

## Verse 2

فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْراًۙ

Fazzajirati zajra

And those driving with force,

## Verse 3

فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْراًۙ

Fattaliyati thikra

And the reciters of a remembrance!

## Verse 4

اِنَّ اِلٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌۜ

Inna ilahakum lawahid

Your God is One:

## Verse 5

رَبُّ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِۜ

Rabbu assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma warabbu almashariq

Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and what is between them, and the Lord of the Easts.

## Verse 6

اِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَٓاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِز۪ينَةٍۨ الْـكَوَاكِبِۙ

Inna zayyanna assamaaaddunya bizeenatin alkawakib

We have adorned the lower heaven with the adornment of the stars

## Verse 7

وَحِفْظاً مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَارِدٍۚ

Wahifthan min kulli shaytaninmarid

And as protection against every refractory satan.

## Verse 8

لَا يَسَّمَّعُونَ اِلَى الْمَلَأِ الْاَعْلٰى وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍۗ

La yassammaAAoona ila almala-ial-aAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janib

They listen not to the exalted assembly, and they are pelted from every side,

## Verse 9

دُحُوراً وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌۙ

Duhooran walahum AAathabun wasib

Repelled — and they have a constant punishment —

## Verse 10

اِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَاَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ

Illa man khatifa alkhatfatafaatbaAAahu shihabun thaqib

Save he who snatches a fragment; and a piercing flame follows him.

## Verse 11

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ اَهُمْ اَشَدُّ خَلْقاً اَمْ مَنْ خَلَقْنَاۜ اِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِنْ ط۪ينٍ لَازِبٍ

Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan amman khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teeninlazib

So ask thou them: are they harder to create, or those We have created? We created them of clinging clay.

## Verse 12

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَۖ

Bal AAajibta wayaskharoon

Yet thou dost marvel; and they deride

## Verse 13

وَاِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَۖ

Wa-itha thukkiroo la yathkuroon

And, when they are reminded, bear not in mind

## Verse 14

وَاِذَا رَاَوْا اٰيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَۖ

Wa-itha raaw ayatanyastaskhiroon

And, when they see a proof, turn in derision.

## Verse 15

وَقَالُٓوا اِنْ هٰذَٓا اِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُب۪ينٌۚ

Waqaloo in hatha illasihrun mubeen

And they say: “This is only obvious sorcery.

## Verse 16

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباً وَعِظَاماً ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَۙ

A-itha mitna wakunnaturaban waAAithaman a-innalamabAAoothoon

“When we are dead and are dust and bones, will we be raised?

## Verse 17

اَوَاٰبَٓاؤُ۬نَا الْاَوَّلُونَۜ

Awa abaona al-awwaloon

“And will our forefathers?”

## Verse 18

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَاَنْتُمْ دَاخِرُونَۚ

Qul naAAam waantum dakhiroon

Say thou: “Yea, and you will be abased.”

## Verse 19

فَاِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَاِذَا هُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ

Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahidatunfa-itha hum yanthuroon

Then will it be but one cry — and then will they be looking on —

## Verse 20

وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هٰذَا يَوْمُ الدّ۪ينِ

Waqaloo ya waylana hathayawmu addeen

And they will say: “Woe is us! This is the Day of Judgment.”

## Verse 21

هٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذ۪ي كُنْتُمْ بِه۪ تُكَذِّبُونَ۟

Hatha yawmu alfasli allatheekuntum bihi tukaththiboon

“This is the Day of Decision which you denied!

## Verse 22

اُحْشُرُوا الَّذ۪ينَ ظَلَمُوا وَاَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَۙ

Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoowaazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoon

“Gather those who did wrong, and their wives, and what they served

## Verse 23

مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ اِلٰى صِرَاطِ الْجَح۪يمِۙ

Min dooni Allahi fahdoohum ilasirati aljaheem

“Instead of God, and guide them to the path of Hell!

## Verse 24

وَقِفُوهُمْ اِنَّهُمْ مَسْؤُ۫لُونَۙ

Waqifoohum innahum masooloon

“But stop them — they are to be questioned:

## Verse 25

مَا لَـكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ

Ma lakum la tanasaroon

“What ails you that you help not one another?”

## Verse 26

بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ

Bal humu alyawma mustaslimoon

The truth is they, this day, are in submission!

## Verse 27

وَاَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَٓاءَلُونَ

Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

And they will draw near to one another, asking one of another,

## Verse 28

قَالُٓوا اِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَم۪ينِ

Qaloo innakum kuntum ta/toonanaAAani alyameen

They will say: “You came to us from the right hand[...].”

## Verse 29

قَالُوا بَلْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِن۪ينَۚ

Qaloo bal lam takoonoo mu/mineen

Those will say: “Nay, you were not believers,

## Verse 30

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍۚ بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْماً طَاغ۪ينَ

Wama kana lanaAAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheen

“And we had over you no authority. The truth is, you were people transgressing all bounds,

## Verse 31

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَاۗ اِنَّا لَذَٓائِقُونَ

Fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbinainna latha-iqoon

“So the word of our Lord has become binding upon us: We are to taste[...].

## Verse 32

فَاَغْوَيْنَا‌كُمْ اِنَّا كُنَّا غَاو۪ينَ

Faaghwaynakum inna kunnaghaween

“And we caused you to err — we were those who err.”

## Verse 33

فَاِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

Fa-innahum yawma-ithin fee alAAathabimushtarikoon

And they, that day, are sharers in the punishment.

## Verse 34

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِم۪ينَ

Inna kathalika nafAAalu bilmujrimeen

Thus do We with the lawbreakers.

## Verse 35

اِنَّهُمْ كَانُٓوا اِذَا ق۪يلَ لَهُمْ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَۙ

Innahum kanoo itha qeela lahumla ilaha illa Allahu yastakbiroon

They — when it was said to them: “There is no god save God,” — waxed proud,

## Verse 36

وَيَقُولُونَ اَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُٓوا اٰلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَجْنُونٍۜ

Wayaqooloona a-inna latarikoo alihatinalishaAAirin majnoon

(And they said: “Are we to leave our gods for a possessed poet?”

## Verse 37

بَلْ جَٓاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَل۪ينَ

Bal jaa bilhaqqi wasaddaqaalmursaleen

The truth is, he brought the truth and confirmed the emissaries:

## Verse 38

اِنَّكُمْ لَذَٓائِقُوا الْعَذَابِ الْاَل۪يمِۚ

Innakum latha-iqoo alAAathabial-aleem

“You are to taste the painful punishment

## Verse 39

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَۙ

Wama tujzawna illa makuntum taAAmaloon

“And you will be rewarded only for what you did.”)

## Verse 40

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَص۪ينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Save the sincere servants of God.

## Verse 41

اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَعْلُومٌۙ

Ola-ika lahum rizqun maAAloom

Those will have a known provision:

## Verse 42

فَوَا‌كِهُۚ وَهُمْ مُكْرَمُونَۙ

Fawakihu wahum mukramoon

Fruits[...]. And they will be honoured;

## Verse 43

ف۪ي جَنَّاتِ النَّع۪يمِۙ

Fee jannati annaAAeem

In the Gardens of Bliss

## Verse 44

عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِل۪ينَ

AAala sururin mutaqabileen

Upon couches, facing one another,

## Verse 45

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَع۪ينٍۙ

Yutafu AAalayhim bika/sin min maAAeen

Circulated among them will be a cup from a running spring,

## Verse 46

بَيْضَٓاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِب۪ينَۚ

Baydaa laththatin lishsharibeen

White, delightful to the drinkers,

## Verse 47

لَا ف۪يهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُونَ

La feeha ghawlun walahum AAanha yunzafoon

Wherein is no sickness, nor are they intoxicated thereby,

## Verse 48

وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ ع۪ينٌۙ

WaAAindahum qasiratu attarfiAAeen

And with them maidens of modest-eyed gaze,

## Verse 49

كَاَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَكْنُونٌ

Kaannahunna baydun maknoon

As if they were eggs closely guarded.

## Verse 50

فَاَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَٓاءَلُونَ

Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

And they will draw near to one another, asking one of another:

## Verse 51

قَالَ قَٓائِلٌ مِنْهُمْ اِنّ۪ي كَانَ ل۪ي قَر۪ينٌۙ

Qala qa-ilun minhum innee kanalee qareen

(A speaker among them will say: “I had a companion,

## Verse 52

يَقُولُ اَئِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّق۪ينَ

Yaqoolu a-innaka lamina almusaddiqeen

“Said he: ‘Art thou in truth of those who give credence:

## Verse 53

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباً وَعِظَاماً ءَاِنَّا لَمَد۪ينُونَ

A-itha mitna wakunnaturaban waAAithaman a-innalamadeenoon

“‘When we are dead and dust and bones, will we be held to account?’”

## Verse 54

قَالَ هَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُطَّلِعُونَ

Qala hal antum muttaliAAoon

He will say: “Will you look?”

## Verse 55

فَاطَّـلَعَ فَرَاٰهُ ف۪ي سَوَٓاءِ الْجَح۪يمِ

FattalaAAa faraahu feesawa-i aljaheem

Then will he look and see him in the midst of Hell.

## Verse 56

قَالَ تَاللّٰهِ اِنْ كِدْتَ لَتُرْد۪ينِۙ

Qala tallahi in kidtalaturdeen

He will say: “By God, thou hadst almost brought me to ruin!

## Verse 57

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبّ۪ي لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَر۪ينَ

Walawla niAAmatu rabbee lakuntu minaalmuhdareen

“And were it not for the favour of my Lord, I would have been among those summoned.”)

## Verse 58

اَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّت۪ينَۙ

Afama nahnu bimayyiteen

“Are we then not to die,

## Verse 59

اِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْاُو۫لٰى وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّب۪ينَ

Illa mawtatana al-oolawama nahnu bimuAAaththabeen

“Save our former death, and are not to be punished?”

## Verse 60

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظ۪يمُ

Inna hatha lahuwa alfawzu alAAatheem

That is the Great Achievement!

## Verse 61

لِمِثْلِ هٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ

Limithli hatha falyaAAmali alAAamiloon

For the like of this let the workers work!

## Verse 62

اَذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُزُلاً اَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ

Athalika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratuazzaqqoom

Is that better as a welcome, or the Tree of Zaqqūm?

## Verse 63

اِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِلظَّالِم۪ينَ

Inna jaAAalnahafitnatan liththalimeen

We have made it a means of denial for the wrongdoers.

## Verse 64

اِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ ف۪ٓي اَصْلِ الْجَح۪يمِۙ

Innaha shajaratun takhruju fee aslialjaheem

It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell,

## Verse 65

طَلْعُهَا كَاَنَّهُ رُؤُ۫سُ الشَّيَاط۪ينِ

TalAAuha kaannahu ruoosu ashshayateen

Its spathes are as the heads of satans,

## Verse 66

فَاِنَّهُمْ لَاٰكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِؤُ۫نَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَۜ

Fa-innahum laakiloona minhafamali-oona minha albutoon

They will eat thereof, and fill thereof their bellies;

## Verse 67

ثُمَّ اِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْباً مِنْ حَم۪يمٍۚ

Thumma inna lahum AAalayha lashawbanmin hameem

Then on top of it will they have a mixture of scalding water;

## Verse 68

ثُمَّ اِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَاِلَى الْجَح۪يمِ

Thumma inna marjiAAahum la-ila aljaheem

Then will their return be to Hell.

## Verse 69

اِنَّهُمْ اَلْفَوْا اٰبَٓاءَهُمْ ضَٓالّ۪ينَۙ

Innahum alfaw abaahum dalleen

They found their fathers astray,

## Verse 70

فَهُمْ عَلٰٓى اٰثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ

Fahum AAala atharihimyuhraAAoon

And in their footsteps are they hastening.

## Verse 71

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ اَكْثَرُ الْاَوَّل۪ينَۙ

Walaqad dalla qablahum aktharual-awwaleen

And most of the former peoples had gone astray before them,

## Verse 72

وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا ف۪يهِمْ مُنْذِر۪ينَ

Walaqad arsalna feehim munthireen

And We had sent among them warners.

## Verse 73

فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنْذَر۪ينَۙ

Fanthur kayfa kanaAAaqibatu almunthareen

So see thou how was the final outcome of those who were warned,

## Verse 74

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَص۪ينَ۟

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Save the sincere servants of God.

## Verse 75

وَلَقَدْ نَادٰينَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُج۪يبُونَۚ

Walaqad nadana noohunfalaniAAma almujeeboon

And Noah called to Us — and how excellent were the responders!

## Verse 76

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَاَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظ۪يمِۘ

Wanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbialAAatheem

And We delivered him and his household from the great distress,

## Verse 77

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاق۪ينَۘ

WajaAAalna thurriyyatahu humualbaqeen

And We made his progeny those remaining.

## Verse 78

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْاٰخِر۪ينَۘ

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

And We left for him among those who came later:

## Verse 79

سَلَامٌ عَلٰى نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَم۪ينَ

Salamun AAala noohinfee alAAalameen

“Peace be upon Noah among all mankind!”

## Verse 80

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِن۪ينَ

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Thus reward We the doers of good;

## Verse 81

اِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

He was among Our believing servants.

## Verse 82

ثُمَّ اَغْرَقْنَا الْاٰخَر۪ينَ

Thumma aghraqna al-akhareen

Then drowned We the others.

## Verse 83

وَاِنَّ مِنْ ش۪يعَتِه۪ لَاِبْرٰه۪يمَۢ

Wa-inna min sheeAAatihi la-ibraheem

And of his kind was Abraham,

## Verse 84

اِذْ جَٓاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَل۪يمٍ

Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbinsaleem

When he came to his Lord with a pure heart,

## Verse 85

اِذْ قَالَ لِاَب۪يهِ وَقَوْمِه۪ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَۚ

Ith qala li-abeehi waqawmihi mathataAAbudoon

When he said to his father and his people: “What do you serve?

## Verse 86

اَئِفْكاً اٰلِهَةً دُونَ اللّٰهِ تُر۪يدُونَۜ

A-ifkan alihatan doona Allahitureedoon

“Is it falsehood — gods besides God — you desire?

## Verse 87

فَمَا ظَنُّكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعَالَم۪ينَ

Fama thannukum birabbialAAalameen

“So what is your thought about the Lord of All Creation?”

## Verse 88

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِۙ

Fanathara nathratanfee annujoom

(And he cast a look at the stars,

## Verse 89

فَقَالَ اِنّ۪ي سَق۪يمٌ

Faqala innee saqeem

And said: “I am sick.”)

## Verse 90

فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِر۪ينَ

Fatawallaw AAanhu mudbireen

Then they turned away from him, and left.

## Verse 91

فَرَاغَ اِلٰٓى اٰلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ اَلَا تَأْكُلُونَۚ

Faragha ila alihatihimfaqala ala ta/kuloon

Then he turned aside to their gods, and said: “Do you not eat?

## Verse 92

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنْطِقُونَ

Ma lakum la tantiqoon

“What ails you, that you speak not?”

## Verse 93

فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْباً بِالْيَم۪ينِ

Faragha AAalayhim darban bilyameen

And he turned upon them, striking with his right hand.

## Verse 94

فَاَقْبَلُٓوا اِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ

Faaqbaloo ilayhi yaziffoon

Then came they towards him in haste.

## Verse 95

قَالَ اَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَۙ

Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoon

He said: “Serve you what you hew

## Verse 96

وَاللّٰهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Wallahu khalaqakum wamataAAmaloon

“When God created you and what you make?”

## Verse 97

قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَاناً فَاَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَح۪يمِ

Qaloo ibnoo lahu bunyananfaalqoohu fee aljaheem

They said: “Build for him a structure, and cast him into the blazing fire!”

## Verse 98

فَاَرَادُوا بِه۪ كَيْداً فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْاَسْفَل۪ينَ

Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumual-asfaleen

And they intended for him a plan; but We made them the lowest.

## Verse 99

وَقَالَ اِنّ۪ي ذَاهِبٌ اِلٰى رَبّ۪ي سَيَهْد۪ينِ

Waqala innee thahibun ilarabbee sayahdeen

And he said: “I am going to my Lord; He will guide me.”

رَبِّ هَبْ ل۪ي مِنَ الصَّالِح۪ينَ

Rabbi hablee mina assaliheen

“My Lord: give Thou me from among the righteous.”

## Verse 101

فَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِغُلَامٍ حَل۪يمٍ

Fabashsharnahu bighulamin haleem

So We gave him glad tidings of a clement lad;

## Verse 102

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ اِنّ۪ٓي اَرٰى فِي الْمَنَامِ اَنّ۪ٓي اَذْبَحُكَ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرٰىۜ قَالَ يَٓا اَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُۘ سَتَجِدُن۪ٓي اِنْ شَٓاءَ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الصَّابِر۪ينَ

Falamma balagha maAAahu assaAAyaqala ya bunayya innee ara fee almanamiannee athbahuka fanthur mathatara qala ya abati ifAAal ma tu/marusatajidunee in shaa Allahu mina assabireen

And when he reached the age of working with him, he said: “O my son: I saw in a dream, that I was sacrificing thee. So look thou — what seest thou?” He said: “O my father: do thou what thou art commanded; thou wilt find me, if God wills, of the patient.”

## Verse 103

فَلَمَّٓا اَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَب۪ينِۚ

Falamma aslama watallahuliljabeen

And when they had submitted, and he had thrown him down upon his brow,

## Verse 104

وَنَادَيْنَاهُ اَنْ يَٓا اِبْرٰه۪يمُۙ

Wanadaynahu an ya ibraheem

We called to him: “O Abraham:

## Verse 105

قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ الرُّءْيَاۚ اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِن۪ينَ

Qad saddaqta arru/yainna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

“Thou hast confirmed the vision!” Thus reward We the doers of good;

## Verse 106

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلٰٓؤُا الْمُب۪ينُ

Inna hatha lahuwa albalaoalmubeen

This was the clear trial.

وَفَدَيْنَاهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظ۪يمٍ

Wafadaynahu bithibhinAAatheem

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْاٰخِر۪ينَ

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

And We left for him among those who came later:

## Verse 109

سَلَامٌ عَلٰٓى اِبْرٰه۪يمَ

Salamun AAala ibraheem

“Peace be upon Abraham!”

كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِن۪ينَ

Kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Thus reward We the doers of good;

اِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

He was among Our believing servants.

## Verse 112

وَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِاِسْحٰقَ نَبِياًّ مِنَ الصَّالِح۪ينَ

Wabashsharnahu bi-ishaqanabiyyan mina assaliheen

And We gave him glad tidings of Isaac, a prophet among the righteous.

## Verse 113

وَبَارَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلٰٓى اِسْحٰقَۜ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِه۪ مُب۪ينٌ۟

Wabarakna AAalayhi waAAalaishaqa wamin thurriyyatihima muhsinunwathalimun linafsihi mubeen

And We blessed him, and Isaac; and among their progeny is the doer of good and the manifest doer of wrong to himself.

## Verse 114

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلٰى مُوسٰى وَهٰرُونَۚ

Walaqad mananna AAala moosawaharoon

And We bestowed favour upon Moses and Aaron,

## Verse 115

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظ۪يمِۚ

Wanajjaynahuma waqawmahumamina alkarbi alAAatheem

And delivered them and their people from the great distress,

## Verse 116

وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ فَكَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِب۪ينَۚ

Wanasarnahum fakanoohumu alghalibeen

And We helped them, so they were the victors.

## Verse 117

وَاٰتَيْنَاهُمَا الْكِتَابَ الْمُسْتَب۪ينَۚ

Waataynahuma alkitabaalmustabeen

And We gave them the Clarifying Writ,

## Verse 118

وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَق۪يمَۚ

Wahadaynahuma assirataalmustaqeem

And We guided them to the straight path.

## Verse 119

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِي الْاٰخِر۪ينَ

Watarakna AAalayhima fee al-akhireen

And We left for them among those who came later:

## Verse 120

سَلَامٌ عَلٰى مُوسٰى وَهٰرُونَ

Salamun AAala moosawaharoon

“Peace be upon Moses and Aaron!”

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِن۪ينَ

اِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

وَاِنَّ اِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَل۪ينَۜ

Wa-inna ilyasa lamina almursaleen

And Elijah was among the emissaries,

## Verse 124

اِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِه۪ٓ اَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Ith qala liqawmihi alatattaqoon

When he said to his people: “Will you not be in prudent fear?

## Verse 125

اَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلاً وَتَذَرُونَ اَحْسَنَ الْخَالِق۪ينَۙ

AtadAAoona baAAlan watatharoona ahsanaalkhaliqeen

“Will you call to Baal and leave the best of creators:

## Verse 126

اَللّٰهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ اٰبَٓائِكُمُ الْاَوَّل۪ينَ

Allaha rabbakum warabba aba-ikumual-awwaleen

“God, your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers of old?”

## Verse 127

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَاِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَۙ

Fakaththaboohu fa-innahum lamuhdaroon

But they denied him; then are they those summoned,

## Verse 128

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَص۪ينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Save the sincere servants of God.

## Verse 129

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْاٰخِر۪ينَ

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

And We left for him among those who came later:

## Verse 130

سَلَامٌ عَلٰٓى اِلْ‌يَاس۪ينَ

Salamun AAala il yaseen

“Peace be upon Ilyāsīn!”

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِن۪ينَ

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Thus reward We the doers of good;

اِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

He was among Our believing servants.

## Verse 133

وَاِنَّ لُوطاً لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَل۪ينَۜ

Wa-inna lootan lamina almursaleen

And Lot was among the emissaries,

## Verse 134

اِذْ نَجَّيْنَاهُ وَاَهْلَـهُٓ اَجْمَع۪ينَۙ

Ith najjaynahu waahlahuajmaAAeen

When We delivered him and his household all together,

## Verse 135

اِلَّا عَجُوزاً فِي الْغَابِر۪ينَ

Illa AAajoozan fee alghabireen

Save an old woman among those who stayed behind;

## Verse 136

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْاٰخَر۪ينَ

Thumma dammarna al-akhareen

Then destroyed We the others.

## Verse 137

وَاِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مُصْبِح۪ينَۙ

Wa-innakum latamurroona AAalayhim musbiheen

And you pass by them in the morning

## Verse 138

وَبِالَّيْلِۜ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ۟

Wabillayli afala taAAqiloon

And at night. Will you then not use reason!

## Verse 139

وَاِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَل۪ينَۜ

Wa-inna yoonusa lamina almursaleen

And Jonah was among the emissaries,

## Verse 140

اِذْ اَبَقَ اِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِۙ

Ith abaqa ila alfulki almashhoon

When he fled to the laden ship,

## Verse 141

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُدْحَض۪ينَۚ

Fasahama fakana mina almudhadeen

Then he cast lots, and was among those refuted.

## Verse 142

فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُل۪يمٌ

Faltaqamahu alhootu wahuwamuleem

Then the fish swallowed him, when he was blameworthy.

## Verse 143

فَلَوْلَٓا اَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّح۪ينَۙ

Falawla annahu kana minaalmusabbiheen

And were he not among the givers of glory,

## Verse 144

لَلَبِثَ ف۪ي بَطْنِه۪ٓ اِلٰى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Lalabitha fee batnihi ilayawmi yubAAathoon

He would have tarried in its belly until the day they are raised.

## Verse 145

فَنَبَذْنَاهُ بِالْعَرَٓاءِ وَهُوَ سَق۪يمٌۚ

Fanabathnahu bilAAara-iwahuwa saqeem

But We cast him on the bare shore when he was sick,

## Verse 146

وَاَنْبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِنْ يَقْط۪ينٍۚ

Waanbatna AAalayhi shajaratan minyaqteen

And We caused to grow over him a tree of gourd;

## Verse 147

وَاَرْسَلْنَاهُ اِلٰى مِائَةِ اَلْفٍ اَوْ يَز۪يدُونَۚ

Waarsalnahu ila mi-ati alfinaw yazeedoon

And We sent him to a hundred thousand or more;

## Verse 148

فَاٰمَنُوا فَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ اِلٰى ح۪ينٍۜ

Faamanoo famattaAAnahum ilaheen

And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment for a time.

## Verse 149

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ اَلِرَبِّكَ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ الْبَنُونَۙ

Fastaftihim alirabbika albanatuwalahumu albanoon

And ask thou them: has thy Lord daughters and they sons?

## Verse 150

اَمْ خَلَقْنَا الْمَلٰٓئِكَةَ اِنَاثاً وَهُمْ شَاهِدُونَ

Am khalaqna almala-ikata inathanwahum shahidoon

If We created the angels females, while they were witnesses:

## Verse 151

اَلَٓا اِنَّهُمْ مِنْ اِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَۙ

Ala innahum min ifkihim layaqooloon

(In truth, it is of their falsehood that they say:

## Verse 152

وَلَدَ اللّٰهُۙ وَاِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ

Walada Allahu wa-innahum lakathiboon

“God has begotten,” and they are liars.)

## Verse 153

اَصْطَفَى الْبَنَاتِ عَلَى الْبَن۪ينَۜ

Astafa albanati AAalaalbaneen

Chose He daughters over sons?

## Verse 154

مَا لَـكُمْ۠  كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoon

What ails you? How judge you?

## Verse 155

اَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَۚ

Afala tathakkaroon

Will you then not take heed!

## Verse 156

اَمْ لَـكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُب۪ينٌۙ

Am lakum sultanun mubeen

If you have a clear authority,

## Verse 157

فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابِكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِق۪ينَ

Fa/too bikitabikum in kuntum sadiqeen

Then bring your writ, if you be truthful.

## Verse 158

وَجَعَلُوا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجِنَّةِ نَسَباًۜ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ الْجِنَّةُ اِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَۙ

WajaAAaloo baynahu wabayna aljinnatinasaban walaqad AAalimati aljinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon

And they have made between Him and the jinnaa kinship — when the jinna know they will be summoned —

## Verse 159

سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَۙ

Subhana Allahi AAammayasifoon

(Glory be to God above what they describe!)

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَص۪ينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Save the sincere servants of God.

فَاِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَۙ

Fa-innakum wama taAAbudoon

And you, and what you serve,

مَٓا اَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَاتِن۪ينَۙ

Ma antum AAalayhi bifatineen

You will not tempt against Him

## Verse 163

اِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ الْجَح۪يمِ

Illa man huwa sali aljaheem

Save him who is to burn in Hell.

## Verse 164

وَمَا مِنَّٓا اِلَّا لَهُ مَقَامٌ مَعْلُومٌ

Wama minna illa lahumaqamun maAAloom

“And there is none among us save has an appointed station;

## Verse 165

وَاِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الصَّٓافُّونَۚ

Wa-inna lanahnu assaffoon

“And we are those lined up;

وَاِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْمُسَبِّحُونَ

Wa-inna lanahnu almusabbihoon

“And we are the givers of glory.”

## Verse 167

وَاِنْ كَانُوا لَيَقُولُونَۙ

Wa-in kanoo layaqooloon

And they say:

## Verse 168

لَوْ اَنَّ عِنْدَنَا ذِكْراً مِنَ الْاَوَّل۪ينَۙ

Law anna AAindana thikranmina al-awwaleen

“Were we to have had a remembrance from the former peoples

## Verse 169

لَـكُنَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَص۪ينَ

Lakunna AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

“We would have been the sincere servants of God!”

## Verse 170

فَـكَفَرُوا بِه۪ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

Fakafaroo bihi fasawfa yaAAlamoon

But they denied it; and they will come to know!

## Verse 171

وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا الْمُرْسَل۪ينَۚ

Walaqad sabaqat kalimatuna liAAibadinaalmursaleen

And Our word has gone forth to Our servants, the emissaries:

## Verse 172

اِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ الْمَنْصُورُونَۖ

Innahum lahumu almansooroon

They — they — will be those helped.

## Verse 173

وَاِنَّ جُنْدَنَا لَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ

Wa-inna jundana lahumu alghaliboon

And Our host — they will be the victors.

## Verse 174

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتّٰى ح۪ينٍۙ

Fatawalla AAanhum hatta heen

## Verse 175

وَاَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Waabsirhum fasawfa yubsiroon

And see thou them; for they will come to see!

اَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

Then is it Our punishment they wish to hasten?

فَاِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَٓاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَر۪ينَ

Fa-itha nazala bisahatihimfasaa sabahu almunthareen

And when it descends in their courtyard, then evil is the morning of those who were warned!

وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتّٰى ح۪ينٍۙ

Watawalla AAanhum hatta heen

And turn thou from them for a time.
