Surah As-Saf (The Ranks) — سورة الصف - **Verse:** 14 / 14 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 551 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-as-saf/verse-14 ## Arabic يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا كُونُٓوا اَنْصَارَ اللّٰهِ كَمَا قَالَ ع۪يسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ لِلْحَوَارِيّ۪نَ مَنْ اَنْصَار۪ٓي اِلَى اللّٰهِۜ قَالَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ نَحْنُ اَنْصَارُ اللّٰهِ فَاٰمَنَتْ طَٓائِفَةٌ مِنْ بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ وَكَـفَرَتْ طَٓائِفَةٌۚ فَاَيَّدْنَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا عَلٰى عَدُوِّهِمْ فَاَصْبَحُوا ظَاهِر۪ينَ ## Transcription Ya ayyuha allatheena amanookoonoo ansara Allahi kama qala AAeesaibnu maryama lilhawariyyeena man ansaree ilaAllahi qala alhawariyyoona nahnuansaru Allahi faamanat ta-ifatun minbanee isra-eela wakafarat ta-ifatun faayyadnaallatheena amanoo AAala AAaduwwihim faasbahoothahireen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You who have iman! be helpers of Allah as ‘Isa son of Maryam said to the Disciples, ‘Who will be my helpers to Allah?’ The Disciples said, ‘We will be the helpers of Allah. ’ One faction of the tribe of Israel had iman and the other were kafir. So We supported those who had iman against their enemy and they became victorious. ### Progressive Muslims O you who believe, be God's supporters, as Jesus the son of Mary said to his disciples: "Who are my supporters towards God" The disciples said: "We are God's supporters. " Thus, a group from the Children of Israel believed, and another group rejected. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they were successful. ### Shabbir Ahmed O You who have chosen to be blessed with belief! Be Allah's helpers. As an example - Jesus son of Mary said to the disciples, "Who are my helpers for Allah?" They said, "We are Allah's helpers." Thus a group from the Children of Israel accepted him, and another group rejected him. Then We strengthened those who believed, against their foe, and they became triumphant. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation O you who heed warning: be helpers of God, as Jesus, son of Mary, said to the disciples: “Who are my helpers for God?” The disciples said: “We are the helpers of God.” And a number of the children of Israel believed, and a number denied, and We strengthened those who heeded warning against their enemy so they became dominant. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation O you who believe, be supporters of God, as Jesus, son of Mary, said to his disciples: "Who are my supporters towards God?" So We helped those who believed against their enemies, and they prevailed over them. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) O you who have believed, be supporters of Allah, as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, "Who are my supporters for Allah ?" The disciples said, "We are supporters of Allah. " And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant. ### Muhammad Asad O YOU who have attained to faith! Be helpers [in the cause of God - even as Jesus, the son of Mary, said unto the white-garbed ones, "Who will be my helpers in God's cause?" - whereupon the white-garbed [disciples] replied, "We shall be [thy] helpers [in the cause] of God!" And so [it happened that] some of the children of Israel came to believe [in the apostleship of Jesus], whereas others denied the truth. But [now] We have given strength against their foes unto those who have [truly] attained to faith: and they have become the ones that shall prevail. ### Marmaduke Pickthall O ye who believe! Be Allah's helpers, even as Jesus son of Mary said unto the disciples: Who are my helpers for Allah? They said: We are Allah's helpers. And a party of the Children of Israel believed, while a party disbelieved. Then We strengthened those who believed against their foe, and they became the uppermost. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Believers, become Allah's helpers, as Jesus, son of Mary, said to the disciples:[1] "Who is my helper in (calling people) to Allah?" The disciples had responded by saying: “We are Allah's helpers.”[2] Then a section of the Children of Israel believed and a section rejected the call. Thereafter We aided the believers against their enemies, and they prevailed.[3] _Footnotes_ - [1] For the companions of the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) the word disciples generally has been used in the Bible, but later the term apostle became prevalent for them among the Christians, and in the sense that they were God’s apostles, but in the sense that the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) used to send them to different parts of Palestine as his preachers. Among the Jews this word was already in use for those who were sent to collect subscriptions for the Temple. However, the Quranic term hawari is better than both the Christian terms. The essence of this word is hur, which means whiteness. The washer man is called hawari because he whitens clothes by washing them. A pure and un-adulterated thing is also called hawari. The flour from which bran has been sifted is known as huwwara. In this very meaning this word is used for a sincere friend and an unselfish supporter. Ibn Sayyidah says: Anyone who exaggerates in helping another is his hawari. (Lisan al-Arab). - [2] This is the last place in the Holy Quran where those who exert themselves in calling the people to Allah’s religion and to cause it to become dominant over disbelief, have been called helpers of Allah. Before this, this very theme has been expressed in (Aal-Imran, Ayat 52); (Surah Al- Hajj, Ayat 40);(Surah Muhammad, Ayat 7);(Surah Al-Hadid, Ayat 25) and(Surah Al-Hashr, Ayat 8). And we have explained these verses in(E.N. 50 of Surah Aal-Imran); (E.N. 84 of Surah Al-Hajj);(E.N. 12 of Surah Muhammad); (E.N. 47 of Surah Al-Hadid). Moreover, in (E.N. 9 of Surah Muhammad) light has been also thrown on an aspect of this question. In spite of this some people seem to have the confusion that when Allah Almighty is All-Powerful, Self-Sufficient, and Independent of the help of all His creatures, how then can a man be a helper of Allah? To remove this confusion we shall further explain this point here. - [3] In fact, these people have not been called helpers of Allah for the reason that Allah, Lord of the worlds, (God forbid) stood in need of any help from some of His creatures, but because in the sphere of life in which Allah Himself has granted man freedom of belief and disbelief, obedience and disobedience. He does not will to make the people His believers and obedient servants by means of His power and might. Instead, He adopts the method of admonition and instruction to show them the right way through His Prophets and Books. The one who accepts this admonition and instruction willingly is a Momin. The one who submits practically to His commands is a Muslim and devout Godworshiper. The one who adopts an attitude of Godconsciousness is a Muttaqi. The one who vies with others for good works is a Muhsin. And over and above this, the one who starts working for the reformation of the people by means of the same method of admonition and instruction and for establishing the system of Allah’s obedience instead of disbelief and wickedness, is declared by Allah as His own helper, as has been mentioned in clear words at several places in the verses cited above. If the object were to designate such people as helpers of Allah’s religion and not of Allah, the words would have been ansaru din-Allah and not ansar-Allah, yansuruna din-Allah and not yansurun- Allah, intansuruna din-Allah and not in-iansurun-Allah. When in order to convey and express a theme; Allah has adopted one and the same style at several places, successively, it proves conclusively that the actual object is to designate these people as helpers of Allah. But this helpfulness, God forbid, is not in the sense that these people fulfill some need of Allah for which He requires their help, but it is in the sense that these people participate in the cause which Allah wills to accomplish through His Prophets and His Books instead of His great power and might. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab O you whose hearts reflect the image of religious and spiritual virtues: Devote yourselves to the pursuit of helping Allah's cause and His purpose until the end crowns the deed. This is consonant with what Isa had asked of his Disciples. He said to them: " Who will be my votaries in the pursuit of the cause of Allah and His purpose?" The Disciples said: " We are the votaries of Allah, addicted to striving in His cause and helping His purpose." There, did belief strike to the hearts of part of Bani Isreal and the other part counseled deaf and debased Isa and his mother. And so We upheld those who recognized him and recognized the Singleness, the Uniqueness, Sameness and of the One and only Ilah; We gave them command, dominion and authority over the others and they emerged into distinguished and distinct notice. ### Bijan Moeinian O’ you who believe, be "helpers" of God the same way that the disciples of Jesus answered his call saying:” We are the helpers of God. ” The Israelites then were divided into two groups; God will give superiority to those Jews who followed Jesus up to the day of Judgment. ### Al-Hilali & Khan O you who believe! Be you helpers (in the Cause) of Allâh as said ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), to the Hawâriyyûn (the disciples): "Who are my helpers (in the Cause) of Allâh?" The Hawâriyyûn (the disciples) said: "We are Allâh’s helpers" (i.e. we will strive in His Cause!). Then a group of the Children of Israel believed and a group disbelieved. So We gave power to those who believed against their enemies, and they became the victorious (uppermost). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali O ye who believe! Be ye helpers of Allah: As said Jesus the son of Mary to the Disciples, "Who will be my helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples, "We are Allah's helpers!" then a portion of the Children of Israel believed, and a portion disbelieved: But We gave power to those who believed, against their enemies, and they became the ones that prevailed. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran O believers! Stand up for Allah, as Jesus, son of Mary, asked the disciples, "Who will stand up with me for Allah?" The disciples replied, “We will stand up for Allah.” Then a group from the Children of Israel believed while another disbelieved. We then supported the believers against their enemies, so they prevailed. ### Taqi Usmani O you who believe, be supporters of (the religion of) Allah, just as ‘Īsā, son of Maryam, said to the Disciples, "Who are my supporters towards Allah?" The Disciples said, “We are the supporters of (the religion of) Allah.” So a group from the children of Isrā’īl believed, and another group disbelieved. Then We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became victors. ### Abdul Haleem You who believe, be God’s helpers. As Jesus, son of Mary, said to the disciples, ‘Who will come with me to help God?’ The disciples said, ‘We shall be God’s helpers.’ Some of the Children of Israel believed and some disbelieved: We supported the believers against their enemy and they were the ones who came out on top. ### Arthur John Arberry O believers, be you God's helpers, as Jesus, Mary's son, said to the Apostles. 'Who will be my helpers unto God?' The Apostles said, 'We will be helpers of God.' And a party of the Children of Israel believed, and a party disbelieved. So We confirmed those who believed against their enemy, and they became masters. ### E. Henry Palmer O ye who believe! be ye the helpers of God! as Jesus son of Mary said to the apostles, 'Who are my helpers for God?' Said the apostles, 'We are God's helpers!' And a party of the children of Israel believed, and a party misbelieved. And we aided those who believed against their enemies, and they were on the morrow superior! ### Hamid S. Aziz O you who believe! Be helpers of Allah, as Jesus son of Mary said to his disciples, "Who are my helpers of Allah?" The disciples said, "We are helpers of Allah. " So a party of the children of Israel believed and another party disbelieved; then We strengthened those who believed against their enemy, and they prevailed (or became the uppermost). ### Mahmoud Ghali O you have believed, be vindicators of Allah, as Isa son of Maryam, said to the Disciples, "Who are my vindicators to Allah?" The Disciples said, "We are the vindicators of Allah. " So a section of the Seeds of believed, and a section disbelieved. Then We aided the ones who believed against their enemy; so they became topmost. ### George Sale O true believers, be ye the assistants of God; as Jesus the son of Mary said to the apostles, who will be my assistants with respect to God? The apostles answered, we will be the assistants of God. So a part of the children of Israel believed, and a part believed not: But We strengthened those who believed, above their enemy; wherefore they became victorious over them. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed O you who believe!– Be(come) you, the helpers (in the Cause) of Allah: As Isa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), said to the followers (disciples); "Who will be my helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the followers (disciples), "We are Allah’s helpers!" Then a portion of the Children of Israel believed, and a portion disbelieved: So, We gave power to those who believed, against their enemies, and they became the ones who won. ### Amatul Rahman Omar O you who believe! be helpers of (the cause of) Allâh (as did the disciples of Jesus), for when Jesus, son of Mary, said to the disciples, `Who will join me as my helper towards (the cause of) Allâh?' The disciples replied, `We are helpers of (the cause of) Allâh. ' So a section of the Children of the Israel believed (firmly in Jesus), while another section rejected (him). Thereupon We helped those who believed, against their enemies and (at last) these (believers) gained predominant victory (over the nonbelievers). ### Ali Quli Qarai O you who have faith! Be Allah’s helpers, just as Jesus son of Mary said to the disciples, ‘Who will be my helpers for Allah’s sake?’ The Disciples said, ‘We will be Allah’s helpers!’ So a group of the Children of Israel believed, and a group disbelieved. Then We strengthened the faithful against their enemies, and they became the dominant ones. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Ey iman edenler, Allah'ın Ensarı (yardımcıları) olun; Meryemoğlu İsa'nın, Havarilere: "Kim benim yardımcılarımdır Allah'a?" dediğindeki gibi! Havariyyun dedi ki: "Biz Allah'ın yardımcılarıyız!". . . İsrailoğullarından bir kısmı iman etti ve bir kısmı da küfretti (gerçeği reddetti)! Böylece,İsrailoğulları'ndan bir grup inanmış, bir grup da inkar etmişti. Nasıl ki Meryem oğlu İsa da havarilere, "Allah'a giden yolda benim yardımcılarım kimdir?" demişti. Havariler de, "Biz Allah'ın yardımcılarıyız" demişlerdi. Bunun üzerine İsrailoğullarından bir kesim inanmış, bir kesim de inkar etmişti. Nihayet biz inananları, düşmanlarına karşı destekledik. Bunun üzerine Beni İsrailden bir taife iyman etti, bir taife de küfre gitti de biz iyman edenleri düşmanlarına karşı teyid eyledik, o suretle onlar üstün olup yüze çıktılar. ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Ey iman edenler! Allah yardımcıları olun! Nitekim Meryem oğlu İsa havarilere: "Allah yolunda benim yardımcılarım kimdir?" dedi. Havarileri: "Biz Allah (yolunun) yardımcılarıyız." dediler. Bunun üzerine İsrail oğullarından bir grup iman etti, bir grup inkar etti. Biz de iman edenleri düşmanlarına karşı destekledik o suretle onlar üstün gelip yüze çıktılar. ### Gültekin Onan Ey inananlar, Tanrı'nın yardımcıları olun. Meryem oğlu İsa'nın havarilere: "Tanrı'ya (yönelirken) benim yardımcılarım kimlerdir?" demesi gibi. Havariler de demişlerdi ki: "Tanrı'nın yardımcıları bizleriz." Böylece İsrailoğullarından bir topluluk inanmış, bir topluluk da küfretmişti. Sonunda biz inananları düşmanlarına karşı destekledik, onlar da üstün geldiler. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Ey iman edenler, Allahın yardımcıları olun. Nitekim Meryem oğlu İsa (da) havaarilerine "Allaha (müteveccih olarak) benim yardımcılarım kim (olacak)?" demiş, havaariler de "Allahın yardımcı (kul) lan biziz" (diye) söylemişlerdi. İşte İsrail oğullarından bir zümre (ona) iman etmiş, bir zümre de küfürde kalmışdı. Nihayet biz, o iman edenleri düşmanlarına karşı destekledik de bu suretle gaalib (olarak) çıkdılar. ### İbni Kesir Ey iman edenler; siz Allah'ın yardımcıları olun. Nitekim Meryem oğlu İsa, havarilere: Allah'a giden yolda benim yardımcılarım kimlerdir? deyince, havariler demişlerdi ki: Biziz, Allah'ın yardımcıları. İsrailoğullarının bir takımı böylece inanmış, bir takımı da küfretmişti. Nihayet Biz, o iman edenleri düşmanlarına karşı destekledik de böylece üstün geldiler. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Siz ey imana ermiş olanlar! Meryem oğlu İsa gibi, siz de Allah'ın (davasının) hizmetçileri olun! Hani o, beyaz giysililere, "Kim Allah(ın davası) uğrunda benim yardımcılarım olacak?" diye sormuştu. Bunun üzerine beyaz giysili (havari)ler "Allah (yolunda) yardımcılar(ın) biz olacağız!" diye cevap vermişlerdi. Ve böylece İsrailoğulları'ndan bir kısmı (İsa'nın peygamberliğine) inanmaya başladı, diğerleri ise hakikati inkar ettiler. Ama (şimdi) Biz, (gerçekten) imana kavuşmuş olanları düşmanlarına karşı koruyup destekledik ve onlar üstün gelenlerden oldular. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Ey iman edenler! Bunun ardından, İsrailoğullarından bir zümre iman etmiş, bir zümre de küfre sapmıştı. Nitekim İsrailoğullarından bir gurup (ona) inandı, bir gurup da inkar etti. Bunun üzerine Biz de iman edenleri düşmanlarına karşı dirençli kıldık: Sonunda galip gelenler onlar oldu. ### Erhan Aktaş (Eski Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an Ey iman edenler! Allah yolunun yardımcıları olun! Meryem Oğlu İsa'nın havarilere: "Allah yolunda benim yardımcılarım kimdir?" dediği zaman, havarilerin: "Allah yolunun yardımcıları biziz." dedikleri gibi. Sonuçta, İsrailoğulları'nın bir kısmı inandı, bir kısmı da inanmadı. Biz de iman edenleri, düşmanlarına karşı destekledik. Biz de inanıp güvenenleri düşmanlarına karşı güçlendirdik; sonunda onlara üstün geldiler. ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir Ey iman edenler! Allah'ın (yolunun) yardımcıları olun! Nitekim Meryem oğlu İsa, Havarilere "Allah'a doğru (giden yolda) kim bana yardımcı olacak?" demişti. Havariler[1] de "Biz Allah'ın (yolunun) yardımcılarıyız!" demişlerdi.[2]İsrailoğulları'ndan bir grup inanmış, bir grup ise inkâr etmişti.[3] Sonunda biz, inananları düşmanlarına karşı desteklemiştik.
