Surah Ar-Rum (The Romans) — سورة الروم - **Verse:** 8 / 60 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 404 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ar-rum/verse-8 ## Arabic اَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُوا ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْ۠ مَا خَلَقَ اللّٰهُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَٓا اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَاَجَلٍ مُسَمًّىۜ وَاِنَّ كَث۪يراً مِنَ النَّاسِ بِلِقَٓائِ۬ رَبِّهِمْ لَكَافِرُونَ ## Transcription Awa lam yatafakkaroo fee anfusihim makhalaqa Allahu assamawati wal-ardawama baynahuma illa bilhaqqiwaajalin musamman wa-inna katheeran mina annasibiliqa-i rabbihim lakafiroon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Have they not reflected within themselves? Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them except with truth and for a fixed term. Yet many people reject the meeting with their Lord. ### Progressive Muslims Did they not reflect upon themselves God did not create the heavens and the Earth and what is between them except by truth and an appointed term. But most of the people are in denial regarding their meeting with their Lord. ### Shabbir Ahmed Have they never learned to think for their own "Self"? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them without Truth and for a Purpose and an appointed time. However, most people, with regard to meeting their Lord, are disbelievers. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. ### Muhammad Asad Have they never learned to think for them­selves? God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth and a term set [by Him]: and yet, behold, there are many people who stubbornly deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Do they not reflect on themselves?[1] Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term.[2] Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord.[3] _Footnotes_ - [1] This in itself is a strong argument for the Hereafter. It means this: "If these people had reflected over their own selves, apart from the external phenomena, they would have found in themselves the arguments which prove the necessity of a second life after the present life. There are three special characteristics of man which distinguish him from the other creations on the earth:" - [2] (1) The earth and the countless things around it have been subjected for him, and he has been granted vast powers to exploit them. - [3] (2) He has been life free to choose a way of life for himself. He can follow the way of belief or disbelief, obedience or sin, virtue or vice, as he likes. Any way of life, right or wrong, that he chooses, he is helped to follow it and allowed to use and exploit all the means and resources provided by God, whether the way chosen is of God’s obedience or of His disobedience. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Do they -people- not weigh matters mentally and think deeply that Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them but in truth and for just ends for a predetermined point of time, notwithstanding that many among the people deny the assemblage before Allah, not to mention the Day of Judgement. ### Bijan Moeinian Don’t people ever think about the creation of the earth, the heavens and whatever is between to realize that there is a purpose behind this creation and that all this is not created in vain and on a whim? The whole universe has a life span determined in advance by God;what a shame that most people think this life will last forever and that they will never stand in front of their Creator [to be accountable for their deeds. ] ### Al-Hilali & Khan Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allâh created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allâh has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Have they not reflected upon their own being? Allah only created the heavens and the earth and everything in between for a purpose and an appointed term. Yet most people are truly in denial of the meeting with their Lord! ### Taqi Usmani Did they not reflect in their own selves? Şüphesiz insanların birçoğu Rablerine kavuşacaklarını inkar ediyorlar. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Nefislerinde bir düşünmediler de mi? Bununla beraber insanlardan bir çoğu Rablerine kavuşmayı inkar ederler. ### Gültekin Onan Kendi nefsleri konusunda düşünmüyorlar mı (yetefekkeru)? Tanrı, gökleri yeri ve bu ikisi arasında olanları ancak hak ve ecel ile yaratmıştır. Gerçekten, insanlardan çoğu rablerine kavuşmaya küfrediyorlar. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Nefisleri hakkında (olsun) iyiden iyi düşünmediler mi? Allah o gökleri, o yeri ve ikisinin arasında bulunan şeyleri hakk (ın ikaamesine) ve muayyen bir va'de (nin inkızaasına) sebeb olmakdan başka (bir hikmetle) yaratmamışdır. Hakıykat, insanlardan çoğu Rablerine kavuşmayı cidden inkar edicilerdir. ### İbni Kesir Kendi nefisleri hakkında düşünmezler mi? Ki Allah gökleri, yeri ve ikisinin arasında bulunanları ancak hak ile ve belirli bir süre için yaratmıştır. Doğrusu insanların çoğu Rabblarına kavuşmayı inkar ederler. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Onlar kendi içlerinde bir muhasebe yapmayı hiç bilmezler mi?
