Surah Ar-Rum (The Romans) — سورة الروم - **Verse:** 53 / 60 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 409 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ar-rum/verse-53 ## Arabic وَمَٓا اَنْـتَ بِهَادِ الْعُمْيِ عَنْ ضَلَالَتِهِمْۜ اِنْ تُسْمِعُ اِلَّا مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاٰيَاتِنَا فَهُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ۟ ## Transcription Wama anta bihadi alAAumyi AAandalalatihim in tusmiAAu illa man yu/minu bi-ayatinafahum muslimoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You will not guide blind men from their misguidance. You will not make anyone hear except for those who have iman in Our Signs and so are Muslims. ### Progressive Muslims Nor can you enlighten the blind from their straying; but you can only make those who believe in Our revelations listen, for they have surrendered. ### Shabbir Ahmed Nor can you bring the blind of heart out of their straying. You can make none to hear except those who believe in Our Messages (using their Vision) and are willing to live in submission to God. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And thou wilt not guide the blind out of their error. Thou wilt only make hear him who believes in Our proofs, so they are submitting. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Nor can you enlighten the blind from their straying; but you can only make those who believe in Our revelations listen, for they have submitted. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Nor can you guide the blind out of their straying. You can only be heard by those who believe in our revelations, and decide to become submitters. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Nor can you make the blind see the way when they have gone astray. You can make none hear except those who believe Our signs and have come to submission. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allah ]. ### Muhammad Asad just as thou canst not lead the blind [of heart] out of their error: none canst thou make hear [thy call] save such as [are willing to] believe in Our messages, and thus surrender them­selves unto Us. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Nor canst thou guide the blind out of their error. Thou canst make none to hear save those who believe in Our revelations so that they surrender (unto Him). ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary nor can you guide the blind out of their error.[1] You can make none hear (your call) except those who believe in Our Signs and have surrendered themselves (to Him). _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, "It is not for the Prophet that he should help and guide the blind by the hand to the right way all through the life. He can only show guidance to the right path. But guiding those whose hearts have been blinded and who do not at all see the way that the Prophet tries to show them, is not within the power of the Prophets." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Nor shall you be able to guide those who lack intellectual or spiritual perception and their minds' eyes are blind nor can you extricate them or disengage out of the entangled wood of error. You will be audible only to those who acknowledge Our signs and Our divine revelations betokening Omnipotence and Authority and they have conformed to Islam. ### Bijan Moeinian Nor can you guide a blind [who is not willing to hold a guiding hand. ] Only those people hear you who believe in My revelations and chose to become [firmer and firmer] submitters (Muslims.) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) cannot guide the blind from their straying; you can make to hear only those who believe in Our Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and have submitted to Allâh in Islâm (as Muslims). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Nor canst thou lead back the blind from their straying: only those wilt thou make to hear, who believe in Our signs and submit (their wills in Islam). ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Nor can you lead the blind out of their misguidance. You can make none hear ˹the truth˺ except those who believe in Our revelations, ˹fully˺ submitting ˹to Allah˺. ### Taqi Usmani Nor are you (able) to show the right path to the blind against their straying. You can make none to listen except those who believe in Our signs, hence they submit. ### Abdul Haleem you cannot lead the blind out of their error: the only ones you can make hear you are those who believe in Our revelations and devote themselves [to Us]. ### Arthur John Arberry Thou shalt not guide the blind out of their error neither shalt thou make any to hear except for such as believe in Our signs, and so surrender. ### E.
