Surah Ar-Rum (The Romans) — سورة الروم - **Verse:** 51 / 60 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 409 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ar-rum/verse-51 ## Arabic وَلَئِنْ اَرْسَلْنَا ر۪يحاً فَرَاَوْهُ مُصْفَراًّ لَظَلُّوا مِنْ بَعْدِه۪ يَكْفُرُونَ ## Transcription Wala-in arsalna reehanfaraawhu musfarran lathalloo min baAAdihiyakfuroon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley But if We send a wind, and they see it turning yellow, still they persist after that in being kafir. ### Progressive Muslims And if We chose to send a wind and they see it turn yellow, then they will continue to be rejecters after it. ### Shabbir Ahmed But thus it is: if We send a wind and they behold it yellow (sand-storm), verily, they still continue in rejection of the Truth (that all things in the Universe take place according to Divine Laws). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And if We send a wind, and they see it turn yellow, they would continue after that to deny. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And if We chose to send a wind and they see it turn yellow, they will continue to be rejecters after it. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Had we sent upon them instead a yellow sandstorm, they would have continued to disbelieve. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira If We send a (blighting) wind and they see (the earth) seared autumnal, they would surely become ungrateful. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) But if We should send a [bad] wind and they saw [their crops] turned yellow, they would remain thereafter disbelievers. ### Muhammad Asad But thus it is: if We send a wind [that scorches their land], and they see it turn yellow, they begin, after that [erstwhile joy], to deny the truth [of Our almightiness and grace]! ### Marmaduke Pickthall And if We sent a wind and they beheld it yellow, they verily would still continue in their disbelief. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary But if We were to send a wind and then their tilth has become yellow,[1] they would never cease to disbelieve.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, a frosty wind or a heat wave which ruins their crops after they started flourishing by the shower of rain. - [2] That is, they start cursing God and blaming Him for all their misfortunes and troubles, whereas when God had showered His blessings on them, they had shown ingratitude instead of being grateful to Him. Here again there is a subtle allusion to the theme that when the Messengers of Allah bring the messages of mercy to the people, they do not listen to them and reject the blessing; then when God imposes tyrants and despots upon them in consequence of their disbelief, who persecute them severely, and destroy their humanity, the same people start abusing and blaming God for creating a world full of tyranny and cruelty. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And should We send a wind drying up moisture and depriving plants and fruits of their natural colour making it turn yellow, they would be actuated with the feeling of ingratitude and ungratefulness and turn renegades ### Bijan Moeinian Now if I [try their belief and] send a [heat wave or frosty] wind to turn their crops [which is grown by the God sent rain at first place] yellow, they will become even more firm in their disbelief! ### Al-Hilali & Khan And if We send a wind [which would spoil the green growth (tilth) brought up by the previous rain], and they see (their tilth) turn yellow - behold, they then (after their being glad,) would become unthankful (to their Lord Allâh as) disbelievers.
