Surah Ar-Ra'd (The Thunder) — سورة الرعد - **Verse:** 40 / 43 · **Juz:** 13 · **Mushaf page:** 253 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ar-rad/verse-40 ## Arabic وَاِنْ مَا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذ۪ي نَعِدُهُمْ اَوْ نَتَوَفَّـيَنَّكَ فَاِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَاغُ وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ ## Transcription Wa-in ma nuriyannaka baAAdaallathee naAAiduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa-innamaAAalayka albalaghu waAAalayna alhisab ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Whether We show you something of what We have promised them or We take you back to Us, your responsibility is transmission and the Reckoning is Ours. ### Progressive Muslims And if We show you some of what We promise them or if We let you pass away, then you are only to deliver while for Us is the reckoning. ### Shabbir Ahmed (O Messenger) Whether We show you what We promise them, or cause you to die before that, your duty is to convey the Message. Ours the reckoning. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (O Prophet), whether We make you see a part of the punishment that We have threatened them with come to pass during your life-time, or We take you away before that happens, your duty is no more than to convey the Message, and it is for Us to make a reckoning.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This is to console the Prophet (peace be upon him), as if to say: O Prophet, you need not concern yourself as to the end of these disbelievers who have rejected the truth. You should go on performing with peace of mind the mission that has been entrusted to you and leave it to Us to give them suitable punishment. Though this has been addressed to the Prophet (peace be upon him), it is obvious that it is really meant to warn the opponents of the truth, who were demanding definitely from the Prophet (peace be upon him) by way of a challenge to bring about the scourge about which threats were being held out to them. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And We either show you O Muhammad in your life time some part of the retributive punishment We promised them or occasion your death before. You are only responsible for relating the divine message and We are responsible for their trial in Day of judgement. ### Bijan Moeinian Rest assured that my treats will be fulfilled. You may see a part of it or your life may not be long enough to see it. In any case, your only mission is to deliver the message. It is My business to call them to account. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Whether We show you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) part of what We have promised them or cause you to die, your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the reckoning. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Whether We shall show thee (within thy life-time) part of what we promised them or take to ourselves thy soul (before it is all accomplished),- thy duty is to make (the Message) reach them: it is our part to call them to account. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Whether We show you ˹O Prophet˺ some of what We threaten them with, or cause you to die ˹before that˺, your duty is only to deliver ˹the message˺.
