Surah Ar-Ra'd (The Thunder) — سورة الرعد - **Verse:** 37 / 43 · **Juz:** 13 · **Mushaf page:** 253 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ar-rad/verse-37 ## Arabic وَكَذٰلِكَ اَنْزَلْنَاهُ حُكْماً عَرَبِياًّۜ وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ بَعْدَ مَا جَٓاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِۙ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا وَاقٍ۟ ## Transcription Wakathalika anzalnahu hukmanAAarabiyyan wala-ini ittabaAAta ahwaahum baAAda majaaka mina alAAilmi ma laka mina Allahi minwaliyyin wala waq ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Accordingly We have sent it down as a judgement in Arabic. If you followed their whims and desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you would have no protector or defender against Allah. ### Progressive Muslims And as such, We have sent it down a law in Arabic. And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of the knowledge, then you will not have any ally or defender against God. ### Shabbir Ahmed Thus, We have revealed it, a Decisive Authority in Arabic. (O Prophet), indeed if you got influenced by people's likes and dislikes after the Knowledge has come to you, you will have no protector or savior against Allah. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And thus have We sent it down as an Arabic judgment[...]. And if thou follow their vain desires after what has come to thee of knowledge, thou wilt have against God neither ally nor defender. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Andas such, We have sent it down a law which is in Arabic. And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of the knowledge, then you will not have any ally or defender against God. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament We revealed these laws in Arabic, and if you ever acquiesce to their wishes, after this knowledge has come to you, you will have no ally, nor a protector, against GOD. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira That is how We have sent down this (Qur'an) as a code of clear judgement. But if you follow their caprices, now that you have been given knowledge, you will have no friend or protector against God. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation. And if you should follow their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against Allah any ally or any protector. ### Muhammad Asad Thus, then, have We bestowed from on high this [divine writ] as an ordinance in the Arabic tongue. And, indeed, if thou shouldst defer to men's likes and dislikes after all the [divine] knowledge that has come unto thee, thou wouldst have none to protect thee from God, and none to shield thee [from Him]. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Thus have We revealed it, a decisive utterance in Arabic; and if thou shouldst follow their desires after that which hath come unto thee of knowledge, then truly wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor defender. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And it is with the same directive that We revealed to you this Arabic Writ. Were you indeed to follow the vain desires of people after the true knowledge has come to you, none will be your supporter against Allah, and none will have the power to shield you from His punishment. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And thus did We reveal it -the Quran- as the constitution of Our Sovereign power discoursed in Arabic literary form. And should you Muhammad be inclined to please them -the sects- and respond to their desires after divine knowledge has been imparted to you, then you will have lost Allah's tutelary guardianship and protection. ### Bijan Moeinian I have revealed My Commandments in Arabic (in order to be understood. ) Now if you give up to their desires (and compromise) after having learnt the truth, know that there is none to defend you nor to protect you against the Lord. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And thus have We sent it (the Qur’ân) down to be a judgement of authority in Arabic. Were you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) to follow their (vain) desires after the knowledge which has come to you, then you will not have any Walî (protector) or Wâq (defender) against Allâh. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Thus have We revealed it to be a judgment of authority in Arabic. Wert thou to follow their (vain) desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then wouldst thou find neither protector nor defender against Allah. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And so We have revealed it as an authority in Arabic. And if you were to follow their desires after ˹all˺ the knowledge that has come to you, there would be none to protect or shield you from Allah. ### Taqi Usmani Thus We have sent it down, being a command in Arabic. And if you follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, there shall be neither a friend for you against Allah, nor a savior. ### Abdul Haleem So We have sent down the Quran to give judgement in the Arabic language. If you were to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would have no one to guard you or protect you from God. ### Arthur John Arberry Even so We have sent it down as an Arabic judgment. And indeed in case you ever follow their prejudices after what has come to you of knowledge, in no way will you have from Allah a patron, nor a protector. ### George Sale To this purpose have We sent down the Koran, a rule of judgment, in the Arabic language. And verily if thou follow their desires, after the knowledge which hath been given thee, there shall be none to defend or protect thee against God. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And like this We have made it (the Quran) known to be a Judgment of Authority in Arabic.
