Surah An-Nur (The Light) — سورة النور - **Verse:** 62 / 64 · **Juz:** 18 · **Mushaf page:** 358 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nur/verse-62 ## Arabic اِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا بِاللّٰهِ وَرَسُولِه۪ وَاِذَا كَانُوا مَعَهُ عَلٰٓى اَمْرٍ جَامِعٍ لَمْ يَذْهَبُوا حَتّٰى يَسْتَأْذِنُوهُۜ اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَكَ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّٰهِ وَرَسُولِه۪ۚ فَاِذَا اسْتَأْذَنُوكَ لِبَعْضِ شَأْنِهِمْ فَأْذَنْ لِمَنْ شِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمُ اللّٰهَۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ رَح۪يمٌ ## Transcription Innama almu/minoona allatheenaamanoo billahi warasoolihi wa-itha kanoomaAAahu AAala amrin jamiAAin lam yathhaboo hattayasta/thinoohu inna allatheena yasta/thinoonakaola-ika allatheena yu/minoona billahiwarasoolihi fa-itha ista/thanooka libaAAdisha/nihim fa/than liman shi/ta minhum wastaghfirlahumu Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley The muminun are those who have iman in Allah and His Messenger and who, when they are with him on a matter of common concern, do not leave until they have asked him for permission. Those people who ask you for permission are the ones who truly have iman in Allah and His Messenger. If they ask your permission to attend to their own affairs, give permission to any of them you please; and ask Allah’s forgiveness for them. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Progressive Muslims The believers are those who believe in God and His messenger, and when they are with him in a meeting, they do not leave him without permission. Those who ask permission are the ones who do believe in God and His messenger. If they ask your permission, in order to tend to some of their affairs, you may grant permission to whomever you wish, and ask God to forgive them. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful. ### Shabbir Ahmed Only those are true believers in Allah and His Messenger who do not leave without permission when they are with him in a community meeting. Those who ask permission are the ones who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission (O Prophet) in order to handle some of their affairs, grant them permission to whomever you can. Remember (their welfare during their absence) asking forgiveness for them, for Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation The believers are but those who believe in God and His messenger, and when they are with him on a common matter, go not away until they ask leave of him. But when you enter the houses, salute the inmates with a greeting in the name of God, invoking blessings and good health. That is how God explains things to you clearly so that you may understand. They alone are true believers who believe in God and His Apostle, and when they are with him on a matter of common concern, do not depart without obtaining his leave. Surely those who ask leave of you are the ones who believe in God and His Apostle. Therefore when they ask leave of you for personal business give leave to those you please, and seek God's forgiveness for them. Surely God is forgiving and kind. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and, when they are [meeting] with him for a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission, [O Muúammad] - those are the ones who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for something of their affairs, then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. ### Muhammad Asad [TRUE BELIEVERS are only they who have attained to faith in God and His Apostle, and who, whenever they are [engaged] with him upon a matter of concern to the whole community do not depart [from whatever has been decided upon] unless they have sought [and obtained] his leave. Verily, those who [do not abstain from the agreed ­upon action unless they] ask leave of thee - it is [only] they who [truly] believe in God and His Apostle! Hence, when they ask leave of thee for some [valid] reason of their own, grant thou this leave to whomsoever of them thou choose [to grant it], and ask God to forgive them: for, behold, God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace! ### Marmaduke Pickthall They only are the true believers who believe in Allah and His messenger and, when they are with him on some common errand, go not away until they have asked leave of him. Lo! those who ask leave of thee, those are they who believe in Allah and His messenger. So, if they ask thy leave for some affair of theirs, give leave to whom thou wilt of them, and ask for them forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary The true believers[1] are only those who sincerely believe in Allah and in His Messenger and who, whenever they are with him on some common errand,[2] they do not go away until they have asked leave of him. Verily those who ask leave of you, it is they who truly believe in Allah and His Messenger. So if they ask your leave in connection with some of their affairs,[3] give leave to those whom you will,[4] and ask Allah for forgiveness on their behalf.[5] Surely Allah is Much Forgiving, Ever Merciful. _Footnotes_ - [1] These are the final instructions being given to tighten the discipline of the Muslim community and make it more organized than before. - [2] This commandment is also applicable in respect of the successors of the Prophet (peace be upon him) after him and other leaders of the Muslims. When the Muslims are called upon to get together for a common cause, whether relating to war or peace, it is not permissible for them to retreat or disperse without due permission of the leader. - [3] This contains a warning that it is absolutely unlawful to ask permission without any genuine need. - [4] That is, it depends upon the Prophet or his successor after him to grant or not to grant permission even in case of a genuine need. If he deems the collective cause to be more important than the individual need of the person, he may refuse permission, and a believer will not mind it. - [5] This again contains a warning: If in asking permission there is even a tinge of excuse making, or of placing individual interests above collective interests, it would be a sin. Therefore the Prophet or his successor should also pray for the forgiveness of the one whom he gives permission. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Indeed, the faithful are those who have conformed to Islam and recognized Allah's Omnipotence and Authority and acknowledged His Messenger. And when they are in council with him on a matter of common interest they do not break off individually or in toto until they have been excused. Those of them who ask your permission O Muhammad under the circumstances are indeed true and sincere in their recognition of Allah and His Messenger. Therefore, should they ask your permission to leave for a valid reason, then you may excuse whom you will and invoke on their behalf Allah's forgiveness; Allah is indeed is Ghafurun and Rahimun.. ### Bijan Moeinian The true believers are those who believe in GOD and His messenger. When they are with the Prophet in a formal gathering, they do not leave him without excusing themselves. Those do so are the ones who do believe in God and His messenger. If they ask your permission to leave, you may grant their wish, and ask God to forgive them. God is the Most Forgiver, Most Merciful. ### Al-Hilali & Khan The true believers are only those, who believe in (the Oneness of) Allâh and His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): and when they are with him on some common matter, they go not away until they have asked his permission. Verily those who ask your permission, those are they who (really) believe in Allâh and His Messenger. So if they ask your permission for some affairs of theirs, give permission to whom you will of them, and ask Allâh for their forgiveness. Truly, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Only those are believers, who believe in Allah and His Messenger: when they are with him on a matter requiring collective action, they do not depart until they have asked for his leave; those who ask for thy leave are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger; so when they ask for thy leave, for some business of theirs, give leave to those of them whom thou wilt, and ask Allah for their forgiveness: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran The ˹true˺ believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, and when they are with him on a public matter, they do not leave without his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission ˹O Prophet˺ are the ones who ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for a private matter, grant permission to whoever you wish and ask Allah’s forgiveness for them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Taqi Usmani The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His messenger and who, when they are with him for a collective matter, do not leave unless they seek his permission. Surely, those who seek your permission are the ones who believe in Allah and His messenger. So, if they seek permission from you for some business of theirs, give permission to whom you wish from among them, and pray to Allah for their forgiveness. Surely, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful. ### Abdul Haleem The true believers are those who believe in God and His Mes-senger, who, when they are gathered with him on a communal matter, do not depart until they have asked his permission- those who ask your permission [Prophet] are the ones who truly believe in God and His Messenger. Aziz There is no blame upon the blind, nor blame upon the lame, nor blame upon the sick nor on yourselves if you eat from your houses, or the houses of your fathers, or the houses of your mothers, or the houses of your brothers, or the houses of your sisters, or the houses of your paternal uncles, or the houses of your paternal aunts, or the houses of your maternal uncles, or the houses of your maternal aunts, or those whereof you possess the keys, or of your friend. There is no crime upon you that you eat all together or separately. But when you enter houses, then greet each other with a salutation from Allah, blessed and pure. Thus does Allah explain to you His revelations in order that you may understand. ### Mahmoud Ghali Surely they only are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and who, when they are with him upon a common Command, do not go away until they ask his permission. Surely the ones who ask your permission are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger. When therefore they ask leave of thee to depart, on account of any business of their own, grant leave unto such of them as thou shalt think fit, and ask pardon for them of God; for God is gracious and merciful. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed Only those are believers, who believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad): And when they are with him about a matter needing joint action, they do not leave until they ask for his permission; Verily, those who ask for your (Prophet's) consent are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad); So when they ask for your permission (to leave), for some matters of theirs, give the permission to those of them whom you will, and ask Allah for their forgiveness: Truly, Allah is Often Forgiving (Ghafoor), Most Merciful (Raheem). ### Amatul Rahman Omar True believers are only those who believe in Allâh and His Messenger, and who when they are with him (- the Messenger to confer) upon any matter of common importance which has brought (them) together, do not leave (the Messenger) until they have asked permission of him. Surely, it is those who ask your permission who (truly) believe in Allâh and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for some (urgent and important) affair of their own, give your permission to whom you will of them and ask Allâh's protection for them. Verily, Allâh is Great Protector, Ever Merciful. ### Ali Quli Qarai Indeed the faithful are those who have faith in Allah and His Apostle, and when they are with him in a collective affair, they do not leave until they have sought his permission. Indeed those who seek your permission —it is they who have faith in Allah and His Apostle. So when they seek your permission for some work of theirs, give permission to whomever of them you wish and plead with Allah to forgive them. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü İman edenler ancak şu kimselerdir ki, Esma'sıyla hakikatleri olan Allah'a ve O'nun Rasulüne iman ederler. . . O'nunla beraber bir iş üzere olduklarında, O'ndan izin istemedikçe çekip gitmezler. . . Muhakkak ki senden izin isteyenler var ya, işte onlar Esma'sıyla hakikatleri olan Allah'a ve O'nun Rasulü'ne iman edenlerdir. . . Şüphesiz Tanrı bağışlayandır, esirgeyendir. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Mü'minler ancak Allaha ve resulüne iman edenler ve onun (peygamberin) maiyyetinde cem'iyyetli bir iş üzerinde bulundukları vakit ondan izin isteyib alıncaya kadar (bırakıb) gitmeyenlerdir. Hakıykat, senden izin isteyenler (yok mu?) onlar Allaha ve resulüne iman edenlerdir. O halde ba'zı işleri için senden izin istedikleri zaman sen de onlardan dilediğin kimseye destur ver ve kendileri için Allahdan mağfiret iste. Çünkü Allah, çok yarlığayıcıdır, çok esirgeyicidir. ### İbni Kesir Mü'minler; ancak Allah'a ve Rasulüne iman edenler ve peygamberle birlikte bir işe karar vermek için toplandıklarında, ondan izin isteyip alıncaya kadar ayrılıp gitmeyenlerdir. Gerçekten senden izin isteyenler; işte onlar, Allah'a ve Rasulüne iman edenlerdir. Bir takım işleri için senden izin isterlerse içlerinden dilediğine izin ver ve Allah'tan onların bağışlanmalarını dile. Şüphesiz ki Allah; Gafur'dur, Rahim'dir. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı (Gerçek) Müminler öyle kimselerdir ki Allah'a ve O'nun Rasulü'ne yürekten inanırlar ve o'nunla bütün cemaati ilgilendiren bir mesele için bir araya geldiklerinde (hangi karara varılacak olursa olsun) o'nun iznini almadıkça ayrılmazlar. Gerçekten de, senden izin al(madıkça karara bağlanan eylemden geri durmay)anlar, işte Allah'a ve O'nun Rasulü'ne (yürekten) inananlar böyleleridir! Bunun içindir ki, onlar kendi bazı özel işleri için senden izin istedikleri zaman, uygun gördüğün kimselere bu izni ver; ve Allah'tan onlar için bağışlanma dile; çünkü Allah, şüphesiz, çok acıyan esirgeyen gerçek bağışlayıcıdır! ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Müminler ancak, Allah'a ve peygamberine iman ederler, onunla birlikte bir iş hususunda bir araya geldikleri zaman, ondan izin almadan gitmeyenlerdir. Bazı işleri için senden izin istedikleri zaman onlardan dilediğine izin ver ve onlar için Allah'tan mağfiret dile. Şüphesiz Allah çok bağışlayan, çok esirgeyendir. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Müminler o insanlardır ki, Allah'a ve O'nun resulüne inanırlar. Resulle beraber, ortaklaşa bir iş üzerinde bulundukları zaman, ondan izin almadan çekip gitmezler. O senden izin isteyenler var ya, onlar Allah'a ve O'nun resulüne iman edenlerdir. Bazı uğraşları için senden izin istediklerinde, onlardan dilediğine izin ver ve kendileri için af dile.
