Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 9 / 176 · **Juz:** 4 · **Mushaf page:** 77 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-9 ## Arabic وَلْيَخْشَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَوْ تَرَكُوا مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعَافاً خَافُوا عَلَيْهِمْۖ فَلْيَتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَلْيَقُولُوا قَوْلاً سَد۪يداً ## Transcription Walyakhsha allatheena law tarakoo minkhalfihim thurriyyatan diAAafan khafooAAalayhim falyattaqoo Allaha walyaqooloo qawlan sadeeda ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley People should show concern in the same way that they would fear for small children if they were to die leaving them behind. They should have taqwa of Allah and say words that are appropriate. ### Progressive Muslims And what if it was them who had left behind them a weak progeny, would they not be concerned for them Let them revere God and let them say what is appropriate. ### Shabbir Ahmed The distribution of inheritance must be done responsibly and according to Law. Treat others, as you would like to be treated. You will never want injustice to be done to your children, if you leave them behind. So let them mind their duty to Allah, and speak justly. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And let them fear, those who, if they would themselves leave behind helpless offspring, they would surely have been fearful on their account. Let them, then, fear Allah and make the right statement. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And let those who are settling the property upon the heirs revere Allah and keep him in mind and be disposed to propose what is right as they would like others to do with their heirs on whose account they shall be deeply concerned should they be left young and helpless. ### Bijan Moeinian If you are concerned about what will happen to your own children after your death, have the same concern about those whom you are appointed as guardian too. Be mindful of God and be equitable for his sake. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And let those (executors and guardians) have the same fear in their minds as they would have for their own, if they had left weak offspring behind. So let them be mindful of Allah and speak equitably. ### Taqi Usmani Those people should be fearful (in their behavior towards orphans) who, if they leave behind some helpless children, would remain anxious for them.
