Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 74 / 176 · **Juz:** 5 · **Mushaf page:** 88 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-74 ## Arabic فَلْيُقَاتِلْ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ الَّذ۪ينَ يَشْرُونَ الْحَيٰوةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالْاٰخِرَةِۜ وَمَنْ يُقَاتِلْ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ فَيُقْتَلْ اَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْت۪يهِ اَجْراً عَظ۪يماً ## Transcription Falyuqatil fee sabeeli Allahiallatheena yashroona alhayata addunyabil-akhirati waman yuqatil fee sabeeli Allahifayuqtal aw yaghlib fasawfa nu/teehi ajran AAatheema ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley So let those who sell the life of this world for the Next World fight in the Way of Allah. If someone fights in the Way of Allah, whether he is killed or is victorious, We will pay him an immense reward. ### Progressive Muslims Let those who seek to purchase the Hereafter rather than this world fight in the cause of God. And whoever fights in the cause of God and is killed or attains victory, then We will grant him a great reward. ### Shabbir Ahmed Let them fight in Allah's Cause, all those who sell the life of this world for the other. And he who fights in the cause of Allah and is killed or achieves victory - We will bestow upon him a great reward. ### Muhammad Asad Hence, let them fight in God's cause - all who are willing to barter the life of this world for the life to come: for unto him who fights in God's cause, whether he be slain or be victorious, We shall in time grant a mighty reward. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Let those who seek the life of the Next World in exchange for the life of this world fight in the way of Allah.[1] We shall grant a mighty reward to whoever fights in the way of Allah, whether he is slain or comes out victorious. _Footnotes_ - [1] The point stressed here is that fighting in the cause of God cannot be conducted by people engrossed in the pursuit of worldly benefits. This is the task of those who seek to please God, who have complete faith in Him and in the Hereafter, who are prepared to sacrifice all opportunities of worldly success and prosperity, and of all worldly interests, hoping thereby to win God's good pleasure. Irrespective of what happens in the present world such sacrifices will not be wasted in the Hereafter. Jihad (struggle in the cause of God) is not for those who mainly care for worldly benefits. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Since among you O Muslims are the like of these aforementioned whose faith in Allah is greatly shaken, then let those of you who have the world all before them but choose to exchange it for the better world in heaven's realm Hereafter fight in the cause of Allah. Whether they lose their lives or victory sits on their helm, they shall merit Our blessings and We will repay them an imposingly beautiful reward. ### Bijan Moeinian Those who sincerely fight in the cause of God, they trade the pleasures of this world to the pleasures of Hereafter. Whether they die in their campaign or come out victorious, there is a great reward in reserve for them. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Let those (believers) who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the Cause of Allâh, and whoso fights in the Cause of Allâh, and is killed or gets victory, We shall bestow on him a great reward. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Let those fight in the cause of Allah Who sell the life of this world for the hereafter.
