Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 73 / 176 · **Juz:** 5 · **Mushaf page:** 88 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-73 ## Arabic وَلَئِنْ اَصَابَكُمْ فَضْلٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ لَيَقُولَنَّ كَاَنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ مَوَدَّةٌ يَا لَيْتَن۪ي كُنْتُ مَعَهُمْ فَاَفُوزَ فَوْزاً عَظ۪يماً ## Transcription Wala-in asabakum fadlun minaAllahi layaqoolanna kaan lam takun baynakum wabaynahumawaddatun ya laytanee kuntu maAAahum faafooza fawzan AAatheema ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley But if you meet with favour from Allah they say – as if there were no friendship between you and them – ‘Oh! If only I had been with them so that I too might have won a great victory. ’ ### Progressive Muslims And if favour from God benefits you, he will speak as if there had been affection between you and him: "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I would win a great prize. " ### Shabbir Ahmed But if you attain the blessing of victory from Allah, he says, as if the love between you and him was beyond question, "Oh! I wish I had been with them and could be a part of such a great victory. " ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation But if there reaches you bounty from God, he will say as if there had never been any affection between you and him: “Would that I had been with them, so I could have achieved a great achievement!” ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And if grace from God benefits you, he will speak as if there had not been affection between you and him: "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I would have triumphed a great triumph." ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament But if you attain a blessing from GOD, they would say, as if no friendship ever existed between you and them, "I wish I was with them, so I could share in such a great victory." ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira But if success comes to you from God he will say, as though no love existed between you and him: "I wish I were with them, for I would have certainly met with great success. " ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) But if bounty comes to you from Allah, he will surely say, as if there had never been between you and him any affection. "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment." ### Muhammad Asad But if good fortune comes to you from God, such a person is sure to say - just as if there had never been any question of love between you and him -: "Oh, would that I had been with them, and thus had a [share in their] mighty triumph!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And if a bounty from Allah befell you, he would surely cry, as if there had been no love between you and him: Oh, would that I had been with them, then should I have achieved a great success! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And if a bounty from Allah is given you, he says - and says as if there never was any affection between you and him - 'Oh, would that I had been with them, I would have come by a great gain. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But should victory sit on your helm, he interprets his thoughts in words, as if he is not bound by ties of affection, blood, interests or circumstances or with some fact or series of facts or attributes into which you both enter; he says "I wish I were a part of them, I would have achieved a great victory". ### Bijan Moeinian If, on the contrary, you gain something in your campaigns, they will [become jealous and] say (in a hostile manner): "What a pity that we did not join them to take advantage of their victory!" ### Al-Hilali & Khan But if a bounty (victory and booty) comes to you from Allâh, he would surely say - as if there had never been ties of affection between you and him - "Oh! I wish I had been with them; then I would have achieved a great success (a good share of booty)." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali But if good fortune comes to you from Allah, they would be sure to say - as if there had never been Ties of affection between you and them - "Oh! I wish I had been with them; a fine thing should I then have made of it!" ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran But if you return with Allah’s bounties, they will say—as if there had been no bond between you—"We wish we had been there with them to share the great gain!" ### Taqi Usmani And if some bounty comes to you from Allah, he will certainly say,-as if there was no friendship between you and him- "Oh, would that I had been with them; then I would have secured a handsome gain." ### Abdul Haleem yet he is sure to say, if you are favoured by God, ‘If only I had been with them, I could have made great gains,’ as if there had been no ties of affection between you and him. ### Arthur John Arberry But if a bounty from God visits you, he will surely say, as if there had never been any affection between you and him, 'Would that I had been with them, to attain a mighty triumph!' ### E. Aziz But if a fortune from Allah befalls you, they would surely say - as though there were no friendship between you and them - "O would that I had been with you, then I would have achieved a great success!" ### Mahmoud Ghali And indeed, in case a Grace from Allah alights (Literally: afflicts) upon you, indeed he would definitely say, as if there had not been any amity between you and him, "Oh, would that I had been with them, then should I have achieved (Literally: triumphed) a magnificent triumph.
