Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 58 / 176 · **Juz:** 5 · **Mushaf page:** 86 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-58 ## Arabic اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ اَنْ تُؤَدُّوا الْاَمَانَاتِ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهَاۙ وَاِذَا حَكَمْتُمْ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ اَنْ تَحْكُمُوا بِالْعَدْلِۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ نِعِمَّا يَعِظُـكُمْ بِه۪ۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ سَم۪يعاً بَص۪يراً ## Transcription Inna Allaha ya/murukum an tu-addooal-amanati ila ahliha wa-itha hakamtumbayna annasi an tahkumoo bilAAadliinna Allaha niAAimma yaAAithukum bihiinna Allaha kana sameeAAan baseera ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Allah commands you to return to their owners the things you hold on trust and, when you judge between people, to judge with justice. How excellent is what Allah exhorts you to do! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. ### Progressive Muslims God orders you to deliver anything you have been entrusted with to its owners. And if you judge between the people, then you shall judge with justice. It is always the best that God prescribes for you. God is Hearer, Seer. ### Shabbir Ahmed Allah Commands you to entrust your offices to those who are capable, competent and sincere. They shall rule and judge equitably. Give your trusts to whom they belong. The Enlightenment from Allah is a blessing for you. He is Hearer, Seer of all that transpires in the Universe and in your society. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation God commands you that you deliver up trusts to their owners; and when you judge between men, that you judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing. ### Muhammad Asad BEHOLD, God bids you to deliver all that you have been entrusted with unto those who are entitled thereto, and whenever you judge between people, to judge with justice. Verily, most excellent is what God exhorts you to do: verily, God is all-hearing, all-seeing! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Lo! Allah commandeth you that ye restore deposits to their owners, and, if ye judge between mankind, that ye judge justly. Lo! comely is this which Allah admonisheth you. Lo! Allah is ever Hearer, Seer. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah commands you to deliver trusts to those worthy of them; and when you judge between people, to judge with justice.[1] Excellent is the admonition Allah gives you. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. _Footnotes_ - [1] Here the Muslims are forewarned against the evils which had afflicted the Israelites. One of the fundamental mistakes committed by the Israelites was that in the time of their degeneration they had handed over positions of trust (i.e. religious and political leadership) to incompetent, mean, immoral, dishonest and corrupt people. The result was that corruption spread throughout the nation. The Muslims are directed to take heed of this, and to entrust positions of responsibility only to those who are capable of shouldering the burdens of such positions. The other major weakness of the Israelites was that they completely lost their sense of justice. In their pursuit of either personal or national interests, honesty and good faith were often sacrificed. The Muslims, in the time of the Prophet (peace be on him), were themselves subjected to gross injustice at their hands. On the one side were the Prophet (peace be on him) and his followers, to whose purity of life and conduct the Jews were themselves witnesses. On the other side were those who worshipped idols, buried their daughters alive, married their step-mothers and circumambulated the Ka'bah naked. Despite this, these so-called People of the Book felt no shame in declaring that the latter were closer to righteousness than the Muslims. After informing the Muslims of the iniquity of the Jews, God now warns them against committing similar injustices. They should rather declare what is right in the face of friend and foe alike, and judge between people with equity and justice. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Allah commands you to characterize yourselves with habitual reverence, obedience and piety and to restore the property and whatever you hold in trust, be, it from Allah or from people, to those who have the rightful claim to it and or -to those who have invested you with the trust. And exercise justice when you sit in judgement upon people, and be consonant with the principles of moral right and in accordance with reason and fact. Allah enjoins only what is right and sound; how morally excellent is what He exhorts you to do; Allah has always been Sami’un with (unlimited audition), and Bassirun, (He sees all that you do). ### Bijan Moeinian God hereby orders you to return what people have trusted you with back to them. If you have to judge in a case, do with the utmost justice. See how excellent the teachings of the Lord are. Never forget that God hears [whatever you say] and sees [whatever you do.] ### Al-Hilali & Khan Verily! Allâh commands that you should render back the trusts to those to whom they are due; and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allâh) gives you! Truly, Allâh is Ever All-Hearer, All-Seer. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Allah doth command you to render back your Trusts to those to whom they are due; And when ye judge between man and man, that ye judge with justice: Verily how excellent is the teaching which He giveth you! For Allah is He Who heareth and seeth all things. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Indeed, Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners;[1] and when you judge between people, judge with fairness. What a noble commandment from Allah to you! That which Allâh exhorts you to do is best indeed. Excellent indeed is what Allah advises you.
