Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 49 / 176 · **Juz:** 5 · **Mushaf page:** 85 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-49 ## Arabic اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ يُزَكُّونَ اَنْفُسَهُمْۜ بَلِ اللّٰهُ يُزَكّ۪ي مَنْ يَشَٓاءُ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَت۪يلاً ## Transcription Alam tara ila allatheenayuzakkoona anfusahum bali Allahu yuzakkee man yashaowala yuthlamoona fateela ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Do you not see those who claim to be purified? No, Allah purifies whoever He wills. They will not be wronged by so much as the smallest speck. ### Progressive Muslims Did you not see those who boast about themselves No, it is God who promotes whom He wills, and they will not be wronged in the least. ### Shabbir Ahmed Have you seen those who claim that they have purified their souls? Purification of "Self" i. e. development of the personality can only be achieved according to the Laws of Allah, by service to humanity and not through rituals or mysticism (2:177), (13:17). In the Court of Allah, men and women shall find full recompense for their doings without the least injustice. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Hast thou not considered those who think themselves pure? They are not wronged even as much as the husk of a date-stone (if they do not receive righteousness). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Have you not seen Muhammad into the manner of those who vindicate themselves and justify their wrongs! But indeed it is only Allah Who has the absolute authority to vindicate whom He will, and no one is ever wronged not even to the equivalent of a single hair of the dry integument of the smallest seed. ### Bijan Moeinian Have you ever noticed how some people speak very highly of their own purity? Do they not realize that only God purifies those whom He decides to? They deserve it (to be purified or not to be purified) as God does not commit the least injustice. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Have you not seen those (Jews and Christians)[1] who claim sanctity for themselves. Nay, but Allâh sanctifies whom He wills, and they will not be dealt with injustice even equal to the extent of a scalish thread in the long slit of a date-stone. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay-but Allah Doth sanctify whom He pleaseth.
