Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 42 / 176 · **Juz:** 5 · **Mushaf page:** 84 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-42 ## Arabic يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوَدُّ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا وَعَصَوُا الرَّسُولَ لَوْ تُسَوّٰى بِهِمُ الْاَرْضُۜ وَلَا يَكْتُمُونَ اللّٰهَ حَد۪يثاً۟ ## Transcription Yawma-ithin yawaddu allatheenakafaroo waAAasawoo arrasoola law tusawwabihimu al-ardu wala yaktumoona Allaha hadeetha ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley On that day those who were kafir and disobeyed the Messenger will wish that they were one with the level earth. They will not be able to hide a single circumstance from Allah. ### Progressive Muslims On that Day those who rejected and disobeyed the messenger will wish that the Earth would swallow them; but they cannot hide anything said from God. ### Shabbir Ahmed On that Day, those who denied the Truth and paid no heed to the Messenger will wish that they were level with the ground. But not a single utterance or event could they hide from Allah. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation That day, those who ignore warning and oppose the Messenger will wish that the earth might be levelled with them; and they will not conceal from God any statement. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation On that Day those who rejected and disobeyed the messenger will wish that the earth would swallow them; but they cannot hide any narrative from God. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament On that day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger will wish that they were level with the ground; not a single utterance will they be able to hide from GOD. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Prophet, shall wish they were levelled with the dust, and shall not be able to conceal a thing from God. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) That Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they could be covered by the earth. And they will not conceal from Allah a [single] statement. ### Muhammad Asad Those who were bent on denying the truth and paid no heed to the Apostle will on that Day wish that the earth would swallow them: but they shall not [be able to] conceal from God anything that has happened. ### Marmaduke Pickthall On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger will wish that they were level with the ground, and they can hide no fact from Allah. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish on that Day that the earth were levelled with them. They will not be able to conceal anything from Allah. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab There and then shall those who denied Allah and/or His statutes and disobeyed the Messenger, wish they could be leveled in the dust, and not one fact can they hide from Allah. Intoxicants were forbidden in stages, here and elsewhere: 2:219, 5:90/91 If on the road and spiritually unconditioned and there is no water to bathe, then ablution -real or metaphoric - becomes an obligation. ### Bijan Moeinian On that Day, those who chose the [convenience of] disbelief and disobeyed the Prophet of God, will [be so ashamed that they will] wish they were level with earth as all their [shameful] words [and action] will be publicly displayed. ### Al-Hilali & Khan On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) will wish that they were buried in the earth, but they will never be able to hide a single fact from Allâh.[1] ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali On that day those who reject Faith and disobey the messenger will wish that the earth Were made one with them: But never will they hide a single fact from Allah! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran On that Day, those who denied ˹Allah˺ and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they were reduced to dust.
