Surah An-Nisa (The Women) — سورة النساء - **Verse:** 140 / 176 · **Juz:** 5 · **Mushaf page:** 99 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-140 ## Arabic وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ اَنْ اِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ اٰيَاتِ اللّٰهِ يُكْفَرُ بِهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَاُ بِهَا فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ حَتّٰى يَخُوضُوا ف۪ي حَد۪يثٍ غَيْرِه۪ۘ اِنَّكُمْ اِذاً مِثْلُهُمْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ جَامِـعُ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ وَالْكَافِر۪ينَ ف۪ي جَهَنَّمَ جَم۪يعاًۙ ## Transcription Waqad nazzala AAalaykum fee alkitabian itha samiAAtum ayati Allahiyukfaru biha wayustahzao biha fala taqAAudoomaAAahum hatta yakhoodoo fee hadeethinghayrihi innakum ithan mithluhum inna Allaha jamiAAualmunafiqeena walkafireena fee jahannamajameeAAa ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley It has been sent down to you in the Book that when you hear Allah’s Signs being rejected and mocked at by people, you must not sit with them till they start talking of other things. If you do you are just the same as them. Allah will gather all the hypocrites and kafirun into Hell. ### Progressive Muslims And it has been sent down to you in the Scripture, that if you hear God's revelations being rejected and ridiculed in, then do not sit with them until they move on to a different subject; if not, then you are like them. God will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers in Hell all together. ### Shabbir Ahmed He has already revealed unto you in the Book that, when you hear the Revelations of Allah rejected and ridiculed, sit not with them unless they engage in some other conversation (4:63), (6:68). Otherwise you shall bear similar guilt as they bear. GOD will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers together in Hell. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira You have been commanded in the Book that whensoever you hear God's messages denied or derided, do not sit in that company until they begin talking of other things, or you will be no different from them. Indeed God will put the hypocrites and infidels together in Hell. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And it has already come down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah [recited], they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them. Indeed Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers in Hell all together - ### Muhammad Asad And, indeed, He has enjoined upon you in this divine writ that whenever you hear people deny the truth of God's messages and mock at them, you shall avoid their company until they begin to talk of other things - or else, verily, you will become like them. Behold, together with those who deny the truth God will gather in hell the hypocrites, ### Marmaduke Pickthall He hath already revealed unto you in the Scripture that, when ye hear the revelations of Allah rejected and derided, (ye) sit not with them (who disbelieve and mock) until they engage in some other conversation. Allah will gather hypocrites and disbelievers, all together, into hell; ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah has enjoined upon you in the-Book that when you hear the signs of Allah being rejected and scoffed at, you will not sit with them until they engage in some other talk, or else you will become like them.[1] Know well, Allah will gather the hypocrites and the unbe-lievers in Hell - all together. _Footnotes_ - [1] A person who professes Islam and yet enjoys the company of those who indulge in blasphemy against God, and who bears with equanimity their scoffing at God and His Messenger, is no different' from the unbelievers mentioned here. (For the injunction in this verse, see also(Surah al-An'am 6: 68) below. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Allah has instructed you in the Book -the Quran- He revealed to you, thus: "Should you happen to hear Allah's revelations challenged and denied and held up to ridicule by those who were born to be losers, then you do not keep company with them until they have changed the subject of conversation and virtue and wisdom no longer sit in want, lest you be alike. " Allah shall gather the hypocrites and the infidels who deny Him all together in the kingdom of Hell. ### Bijan Moeinian God has already ordered you in this Book not to stay in a gathering (such as a comedy show) where the words of God are being disclaimed and ridiculed. You may return back as soon as they change the subject. If You stay in such a meeting, you are equally guilty. Beware that God will gather all hypocrites and disbelievers in the Hell. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur’ân) that when you hear the Verses of Allâh being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allâh will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Already has He sent you Word in the Book, that when ye hear the signs of Allah held in defiance and ridicule, ye are not to sit with them unless they turn to a different theme: if ye did, ye would be like them. For Allah will collect the hypocrites and those who defy faith - all in Hell:- ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear Allah’s revelations being denied or ridiculed, then do not sit in that company unless they engage in a different topic, or else you will be like them.[1] Surely Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell. ### Taqi Usmani and He has revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah being disbelieved and ridiculed, you should not sit with them unless they enter into some other discourse. You, in that case, would be like them. Surely, Allah is to gather all hypocrites and disbelievers in Jahannam . ### Abdul Haleem As He has already revealed to you [believers] in the Scripture, if you hear people denying and ridiculing God’s revelation, do not sit with them unless they start to talk of other things, or else you yourselves will become like them: God will gather all the hypocrites and disbelievers together into Hell. ### Arthur John Arberry He has sent down upon you in the Book: 'When you hear God's signs being disbelieved and made mock of, do not sit with them until they plunge into some other talk, or else you will surely be like to them. Surely Allah will be gathering the hypocrites and the disbelievers altogether in Hell, ### George Sale And he hath already revealed unto you, in the book of the Koran, the following passage, when ye shall hear the signs of God, they shall not be believed, but they shall be laughed to scorn. Therefore sit not with them who believe not, until they engage in different discourse; for if ye do ye will certainly become like unto them. Doğrusu Tanrı, münafıkların ve kafirlerin tümünü cehennemde toplayacak olandır. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim O, size kitabda "Allahın ayetlerine küfredildiğini ve onlarla eğlenildiğini işitdiğiniz zaman onlar bundan başka bir söze dalıncaya kadar, yanlarında oturmayın. Çünkü o zaman siz de şübhesiz ki onlar gibi (olursunuz)" diye (bir ayet) indirmişdir. Allah muhakkak ki münafıkları da, kafirleri de cehennemde topdan bir araya getirecek olandır. ### İbni Kesir O, size kitabda; Allah'ın ayetlerine küfür edildiğini ve alaya alındığını işittiğinizde, onlar başka bir mevzua intikal edinceye kadar yanlarında oturmayın, yoksa siz de onlar gibi olursunuz, diye bildirdi. Doğrusu Allah; münafıkların ve kafirlerin hepsini cehennemde toplayacaktır. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Allah bu ilahi kelamda size buyurmuştur ki ne zaman Allahın mesajlarının inkar edildiğini ve onların hafife alındığını duyarsanız, başka şeyler konuşmaya başlayıncaya kadar bunu yapanların yanından ayrılmalısınız, yoksa kesinlikle onlar gibi olursunuz.
