Surah An-Naml (The Ant) — سورة النمل - **Verse:** 7 / 93 · **Juz:** 19 · **Mushaf page:** 376 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-naml/verse-7 ## Arabic اِذْ قَالَ مُوسٰى لِاَهْلِه۪ٓ اِنّ۪ٓي اٰنَسْتُ نَاراًۜ سَاٰت۪يكُمْ مِنْهَا بِخَبَرٍ اَوْ اٰت۪يكُمْ بِشِهَابٍ قَبَسٍ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُونَ ## Transcription Ith qala moosa li-ahlihiinnee anastu naran saateekum minhabikhabarin aw ateekum bishihabin qabasinlaAAallakum tastaloon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When Musa said to his people, ‘I can make out a fire. I will bring you news from it or at least a burning brand so that hopefully you will be able to warm yourselves.’ ### Progressive Muslims And Moses said to his family: "I have seen a fire, I will bring you from there some news or I will bring you a burning piece so that you may be warmed. I spy afar off a fire; I will bring you tidings thence, or bring to you a borrowed flame that ye may warm yourselves. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (Recount to them) when Moses said to his family:[1] "I perceive something like fire: soon will I bring to you some information from there, or I will bring you a burning brand that you may warm yourselves."[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] This happened at the foot of Mount Tur when the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was traveling along with his family in search of a suitable place for settlement, after passing eight to ten years in Madyan (Midian). From Madyan, whose territory lay on both sides of the Gulf of Aqabah, on the sea-shores of Arabia and the Sinai Peninsula, he reached the place called Mt. Sinai and Jabal Musa in the southern part of the Peninsula, which at the time of the revelation of the Quran was well known as Tur. See (Ash-Shuara, E.N. 115). The details of this story have been given in (Surah Ta Ha: Ayats 9-24), and in (Surah Al- Qasas: Ayats 29-36). - [2] The context shows that it was a cold wintry night and the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was passing through unfamiliar land. Therefore, he said to his family, "Let me go and find out what habitation it is where a fire is alight, and get some information about the traveling routes and the nearby habitations. I shall at least bring a few embers for you to light a fire and warm yourselves." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Mussa said to his family: I have just seen a fire, you stay here, I might be able to fetch you some information relative to the direction we pursue or fetch you a brand from the burning wood to kindle a fire to warm you up. ### Bijan Moeinian Once, out in the desert, Moses saw the flames of a fire afar.
