Surah An-Naml (The Ant) — سورة النمل - **Verse:** 36 / 93 · **Juz:** 19 · **Mushaf page:** 379 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-naml/verse-36 ## Arabic فَلَمَّا جَٓاءَ سُلَيْمٰنَ قَالَ اَتُمِدُّونَنِ بِمَالٍۘ فَمَٓا اٰتٰينِ‌يَ اللّٰهُ خَيْرٌ مِمَّٓا اٰتٰيكُمْۚ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ تَفْرَحُونَ ## Transcription Falamma jaa sulaymana qalaatumiddoonani bimalin fama ataniyaAllahu khayrun mimma atakum bal antumbihadiyyatikum tafrahoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When it reached Sulayman he said, ‘Would you give me wealth when what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you? No, rather it is you who delight in your gift. ### Progressive Muslims So when they came to Solomon he said: "Are you providing me with wealth What God has provided for me is far better than what He has given you. Now you are happy with your gift!" ### Shabbir Ahmed The envoys reached Solomon with the gift and a letter from the Queen. Solomon said, "What! Do you want to please me with a gift of vanity? Allah has given me better than what He has given you (material wealth and Guidance). Nay, it is you who may exult in your gift." (Historically, the gift was studded with precious jewels and diamonds. But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you. But that which God has given me is [so much] better than all that He has given you! But that which Allah hath given me is better than that which He hath given you. Nay it is ye (and not I) who exult in your gift. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Now, when (the envoy of the Queen) came to Solomon, he said: "Do you want to aid me with wealth? Whatever Allah has granted me is much more than what He has given you.[1] (Keep for yourselves) your gift in which you are exulting. _Footnotes_ - [1] This sentence is not meant to express pride and vanity. What it means to say is this: "I have no desire for your wealth; I only desire that you should believe, or at least submit to a righteous system. If you agree to neither of these alternatives, it is not possible for me to accept the bribes of wealth and leave you free in the matter of a polytheistic and wicked system of life. What my Lord has given me is enough for me to cherish any desire for your wealth. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And when the envoys presented Sulayman with the present he said: "Do you provide me with wealth!" "What Allah has conferred on me of His grace that abounds in me far excels all that He has bestowed on you. In fact, it is you - people- who would rejoice with such a gift beyond a common joy". It is evident, said Sulayman, that they rejoice at worldly gains whereas We rejoice at inviting to the path of Allah, for which cause we are ready to fight ### Bijan Moeinian When the messengers presented the gifts, Solomon said: "Do you want to buy me with this world’s wealth? What Allâh has given me is better than that which He has given you! But that which Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Tanrı'nın bana verdiği, size verdiğinden daha hayırlıdır; hayır, siz hediyenizle sevinip öğünebilirsiniz" dedi. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Bunun üzerine vaktaki (o gönderilen hey'et) Süleymana geldi, (Süleyman) dedi ki: "Siz bana mal ile yardım mı ediyorsunuz? İşte Allahın bana verdiği (ni'metler ki onlar) size verdiğinden daha çok hayırlıdır. Belki siz hediyyenizle böbürlenirsiniz". ### İbni Kesir Süleyman'a geldiklerinde dedi ki: Bana mal ile mi yardım etmek istiyorsunuz? Halbuki Allah'ın bana verdiği, size verdiğinden daha hayırlıdır.
