Surah An-Naml (The Ant) — سورة النمل - **Verse:** 32 / 93 · **Juz:** 19 · **Mushaf page:** 378 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-naml/verse-32 ## Arabic قَالَتْ يَٓا اَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُ۬ا اَفْتُون۪ي ف۪ٓي اَمْر۪يۚ مَا كُنْتُ قَاطِعَةً اَمْراً حَتّٰى تَشْهَدُونِ ## Transcription Qalat ya ayyuha almalaoaftoonee fee amree ma kuntu qatiAAatan amran hattatashhadoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley She said, ‘Council! give me your opinion about this matter. It is not my habit to make a final decision until I have heard what you have to say.’ ### Progressive Muslims She said: "O commanders, advise me in this matter of mine, for I will not take a decision until you give testimony. " ### Shabbir Ahmed She said, "O Chiefs! Advise me in this matter. Give me your opinion on the problem with which I am now faced; I would never make a [weighty] decision unless you are present with me. " ### Marmaduke Pickthall She said: O chieftains! Pronounce for me in my case. I decide no case till ye are present with me. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (After reading the letter) the Queen said: "Nobles, let me have your counsel in this matter for I make no firm decision without you."[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] The words used in the text are: hatta tash-hu-dun (until you are present, or unless you bear witness). That is: "I regard your presence necessary when I take a decision in important matters, and also that whatever decision I take you should be there to testify that it is right and correct." This shows that though the system of government among Saba was kingship, it was not tyrannical; but the ruler of the time decided matters in consultation with the important people in the government. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Her anxiety prompted her to consult with her counselors. She said: "O you counselors, I seek counsel from you in this matter. I never decided upon a course of action before presenting it to you for an opinion". ### Bijan Moeinian She said: "Advise me in this affair as I have never done anything without your consultation.
