Surah An-Naml (The Ant) — سورة النمل - **Verse:** 14 / 93 · **Juz:** 19 · **Mushaf page:** 377 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-naml/verse-14 ## Arabic وَجَحَدُوا بِهَا وَاسْتَيْقَنَتْهَٓا اَنْفُسُهُمْ ظُلْماً وَعُلُواًّۜ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُفْسِد۪ينَ۟ ## Transcription Wajahadoo biha wastayqanat-haanfusuhum thulman waAAuluwwan fanthurkayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley and they repudiated them wrongly and haughtily, in spite of their own certainty about them. See the final fate of the corrupters. ### Progressive Muslims And they rejected them out of their souls' transgression and arrogance. So see how it ended for the wicked. ### Shabbir Ahmed And they rejected the Messages wrongfully and out of pride, although they were convinced within themselves. So see how was the end of the corrupters. ### Muhammad Asad - and in their wickedness and self-exaltation they rejected them, although their minds were convinced of their truth: and behold what hap­pened in the end to those spreaders of corruption! ### Marmaduke Pickthall And they denied them, though their souls acknowledged them, for spite and arrogance. Then see the nature of the consequence for the wrong-doers! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They denied those Signs out of iniquity and arrogance although their hearts were convinced[1] of their truth. So see how evil was the end of those mischief-makers! _Footnotes_ - [1] As mentioned at other places in the Quran, whenever a plague befell Egypt as foretold by the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), Pharaoh would say, "O Moses, pray to your Lord to remove this plague; then we shall submit to what you say." But as soon as the plague was removed, Pharaoh would break his promise. (Surah Al-Aaraf: Ayat 134),( Az- Zukhruf: Ayats 49-50). The Bible also has mentioned it (Exodus. 8 to 10). It could not be imagined that the occurrence of a famine throughout the country, and the coming of a violent storm, and the incidence of the locusts and the frogs and the weevils in such abundance could be due to any trick of magic. The miracles were so manifest that even a simple minded person could not help but realize that the occurrence of the plagues on such a large scale and their removal at the Prophet’s prayer could be only due to Allah, Lord of all Creation’s Power and Authority. That is why the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) had told Pharaoh plainly: “You know it full well that none but the Lord of the heavens and the earth has sent down these signs.” (Surah Bani-lsrail: Ayat 102). But the reason why Pharaoh and his chiefs rejected Moses (peace be upon him) knowingly was: “What! should we believe in these two men who are human beings like ourselves and whose people are our bondsmen?” (Surah Al-Muminun: Ayat 47). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Unjustly and with inordinate self-esteem, they refused to accept these signs- as emblematic of Allah's Omnipotence and Authority, notwithstanding that they had a sense perception of the truth in their innermost beings And you can see how fatal was the consequence which united all those characterized with playful malice. ### Bijan Moeinian They rejected them only out of arrogance as [anytime a plague was sent to them, they begged Moses to remove it as] they were convinced. They were unjust to their own soul and see what happened to them. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And they belied them (those Ayât) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayât ) are from Allâh, and Mûsâ (Moses) is the Messenger of Allâh in truth, but they disliked to obey Mûsâ (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidûn (disbelievers, disobedient to Allâh, evil-doers and liars.). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And they rejected those Signs in iniquity and arrogance, though their souls were convinced thereof: so see what was the end of those who acted corruptly! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And, although their hearts were convinced the signs were true, they still denied them wrongfully and arrogantly. See then what was the end of the corruptors! ### Taqi Usmani And they denied them out of sheer injustice and arrogance, though their hearts believed them (to be true).
