Surah An-Najm (The Star) — سورة النجم - **Verse:** 29 / 62 · **Juz:** 27 · **Mushaf page:** 526 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-najm/verse-29 ## Arabic فَاَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلّٰى عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ اِلَّا الْحَيٰوةَ الدُّنْيَاۜ ## Transcription FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAanthikrina walam yurid illa alhayataaddunya ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley So turn away from him who turns away from Our remembrance and desires nothing but the life of this world. ### Progressive Muslims So disregard he who turns away from Our reminder, and only desires this worldly life. ### Shabbir Ahmed Therefore, avoid him who turns away from Our Reminder and cares for no more than (the dogmas prevalent in) the life at hand. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation So turn thou away from him who turns away from Our remembrance and desires only the life of this world. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation So disregard he who turns away from Our reminder, and only desires this worldly life. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament You shall disregard those who turn away from our message, and become preoccupied with this worldly life. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira So you turn away from him who turns away from Our rememberance and wants nothing but the life of this world: ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life. ### Muhammad Asad Avoid thou, therefore, those who turn away from all remembrance of Us and care for no more than the life of this world, ### Marmaduke Pickthall Then withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary So leave alone those who turn away from the remembrance of Us[1] and who seek nothing but the life of the world[2] – _Footnotes_ - [1] Dhikr here may imply the Quran as well as mere admonition; it may also mean that he does not like that even God be mentioned before him. - [2] That is, you should not waste your time in making him understand the truth, for such a person will never be inclined to accept any invitation which is based on Godworship, which calls to objects and values higher than the material benefits of the world, and according to which the real aim of life may be the eternal success and well-being of the Hereafter. Instead of spending your time and energy on such a materialistic and ungodly person, you should devote attention to the people who are inclined to heed the remembrance of Allah and are not involved in the worship of the world. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Therefore, keep away O Muhammad from those who refuse to acknowledge Our message and choose to go by the world with eyes ever fixed upon worldly matters. ### Bijan Moeinian God is hereby ordering you not to chose as a friend those who turn their backs to the laws of the Lord and seek nothing but the pleasure of this world. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Qur’ân) and desires nothing but the life of this world. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran So turn away ˹O Prophet˺ from whoever has shunned Our Reminder,[1] only seeking the ˹fleeting˺ life of this world. ### Taqi Usmani So, turn away from him who turns away from Our advice, and seeks nothing but (pleasure of) the worldly life. ### Abdul Haleem So [Prophet] ignore those who turn away from Our revelation, who want only the life of this world. ### Arthur John Arberry So turn thou from him who turns away from Our Remembrance, and desires only the present life. ### E.
