Surah An-Nahl (The Bee) — سورة النحل - **Verse:** 36 / 128 · **Juz:** 14 · **Mushaf page:** 270 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nahl/verse-36 ## Arabic وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا ف۪ي كُلِّ اُمَّةٍ رَسُولاً اَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَۚ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ هَدَى اللّٰهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الضَّلَالَةُۜ فَس۪يرُوا فِي الْاَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّب۪ينَ ## Transcription Walaqad baAAathna fee kulli ommatinrasoolan ani oAAbudoo Allaha wajtaniboo attaghootafaminhum man hada Allahu waminhum man haqqatAAalayhi addalalatu faseeroo fee al-ardifanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatualmukaththibeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We sent a Messenger among every people saying: ‘Worship Allah and keep clear of all false gods. ’ Among them were some whom Allah guided but others received the misguidance they deserved. Travel about the earth and see the final fate of the deniers. ### Progressive Muslims And We have sent a messenger to every nation: "You shall serve God and avoid evil. " Some of them were guided by God, and some of them deserved to be misguided. So travel in the land, and see how the punishment was of those who denied. ### Shabbir Ahmed And verily, We have raised in every nation a Messenger, saying, "Serve Allah alone and shun false gods in any form. " Then Allah guided some of the people (since they adopted the right approach (4:88)). And error took hold of others (who fell into arrogance or blind following (18:29)). Do take lessons from history as you travel in the earth, and see the consequence of the deniers. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And We raised up in every community a messenger: “Serve God and avoid idols.” And among them was he whom God guided; and among them was he upon whom misguidance was binding. Subsequently, some were guided by GOD, while others were committed to straying. Roam the earth and note the consequences for the rejectors. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira To every community We have sent an apostle. (saying:) "Worship God, and keep away from all other deities." Thus some of them were guided by God, and ruin was justified on some. Travel over the earth and see what befell those who accused (the apostles) of lies. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut. " And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers. ### Muhammad Asad And indeed, within every community have We raised up an apostle [entrusted with this message]: "Worship God, and shun the powers of evil!" And among those [past generations] were people whom God graced with His guidance, just as there was among them [many a one] who inevitably fell prey to grievous error: go, then, about the earth and behold what happened in the end to those who gave the lie to the truth! ### Marmaduke Pickthall And verily We have raised in every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): Serve Allah and shun false gods. Then some of them (there were) whom Allah guided, and some of them (there were) upon whom error had just hold. Do but travel in the land and see the nature of the consequence for the deniers! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary We raised a Messenger in every community (to tell them): "Serve Allah and shun the Evil One."[1] Thereafter Allah guided some of them while others were overtaken by error.[2] Go about the earth, then, and observe what was the end of those who rejected the Messengers,[3] calling them liars. _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, you are not justified in excusing yourselves for these sins, saying that it is the will of God for We sent Messengers to every ummat, who told the people in plain words that they should worship Us and none else, and should not follow and obey taghut. Besides this, We have already warned you that We do not approve of your deviations. Why should you then put forward this excuse for your deviations? Do you mean to say that We ought to have sent such Messengers as would have forced you to follow the right way instead of bringing you to it by preaching? Please refer to (E.N. 80 of Surah Al-Anaam) for the distinction between God’s will and God’s approval). - [2] That is, Whenever a Messenger came to a people, they were divided into two groups. - [3] (1) Those who accepted the message (and that, too, could not have been possible except with the will of Allah). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And to every nation did We send a Messenger to say to them: " Worship Allah alone and adore Him with appropriate acts and rites and avoid at any cost worshipping anything else irrespective of his or its attribute, be it a human or an idol. " And so, among them -the people- there were those whom Allah had guided to His path of righteousness and others who thrived on disobedience and verified Allah's justifiable ordination to their loss in the maze of error. ### Bijan Moeinian I have sent a Messenger to each nation to say: "Worship God and avoid alternative way of lives (exemplified in worshipping the idols in any form and shape. )" Once the way was clearly presented, some people deserved the Lord’s mercy and were guided by God, while the others chose the alternative ways. Roam the earth and see what happened to those who rejected the message. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allâh (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Tâghût[1] (all false deities i.e. do not worship Tâghût besides Allâh)." Then of them were some whom Allâh guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali For We assuredly sent amongst every People a messenger, (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and eschew Evil": of the People were some whom Allah guided, and some on whom error became inevitably (established). So travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth). ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We surely sent a messenger to every community, saying, "Worship Allah and shun false gods." But some of them were guided by Allah, while others were destined to stray. So travel throughout the land and see the fate of the deniers! ### Taqi Usmani We did raise a messenger among every people, with the message: "Worship Allah and stay away from the Rebel (the Satan)." Then, there were some among them whom Allah guided, and there were others against whom deviation (from the right path) was established. So, travel on earth and see how was the fate of those who rejected (the prophets). ### Abdul Haleem We sent a messenger to every community, saying, ‘Worship God and shun false gods.’ Among them were some God guided; misguidance took hold of others. So travel through the earth and see what was the fate of those who denied the truth. ### Arthur John Arberry Indeed, We sent forth among every nation a Messenger,; saying: 'Serve you God, and eschew idols. ' Then some. of them God guided, and some were justly disposed to error. So journey in the land, and behold how was the end of them that cried lies. ### E. " And amongst them are some whom Allah has guided, and amongst them are some for whom error has become established. So travel in the earth, then look into how was the end of the beliers. ### George Sale We have heretofore raised up in every nation an apostle to admonish them, saying, worship God, and avoid Taghut. And of them there were some whom God directed, and there were others of them who were decreed to go astray. Wherefore go through the earth, O tribe of Koreish, and see what hath been the end of those who accused their apostles of imposture. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And We surely sent from every people a messenger (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and avoid evil:" From the people were some whom Allah guided, and some for whom error could not be avoided.
