Surah An-Nahl (The Bee) — سورة النحل - **Verse:** 28 / 128 · **Juz:** 14 · **Mushaf page:** 269 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-an-nahl/verse-28 ## Arabic اَلَّذ۪ينَ تَتَوَفّٰيهُمُ الْمَلٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِم۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْۖ فَاَلْقَوُا السَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِنْ سُٓوءٍۜ بَلٰٓى اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَل۪يمٌ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ## Transcription Allatheena tatawaffahumu almala-ikatuthalimee anfusihim faalqawoo assalamama kunna naAAmalu min soo-in bala inna AllahaAAaleemun bima kuntum taAAmaloon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley As for those the angels take in death while they are wronging themselves, they will offer their submission: ‘We did not do any evil. ’ Oh yes you did! Allah knows what you were doing. ### Progressive Muslims Those whom the Angels take while they had wronged their souls: "Amnesty, we did not do any evil!" "Alas, God is aware of what you had done. " ### Shabbir Ahmed Namely, those whose lives the angels take while they were doing wrong to their own "Self". They finally would offer submission and say, "We did not mean to do wrong." "Yes indeed! That is when they finally submit, and say, "We did not do anything wrong!" Yes indeed. GOD is fully aware of everything you have done. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira They whose souls are drawn out by the angels while they are sinning, shall offer submission: "We did no evil. " But God knows well what you did. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil. " But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do. ### Muhammad Asad those whom the angels have gathered in death while they were still sinning against themselves!" Then will they [who are thus arraigned] proffer their submission, [saying:] "We did not [mean to] do any evil! [But they will be answered:] "Yea, verily, God has full knowledge of all that you were doing! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Whom the angels cause to die while they are wronging themselves. Then will they make full submission (saying): We used not to do any wrong. Nay! Surely Allah is Knower of what ye used to do. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary the same[1] unbelievers who, when the angels seize them and cause them to die while they are engaged in wrong-doing, they will proffer their submission[2] saying: "We were engaged in no evil." (The angels will answer them): "Surely Allah knows well all that you did. _Footnotes_ - [1] This is Allah’s addition to the previous assertion, and not its continuation. Those commentators, who have wrongly considered this as continuation of the preceding sentence, are unable to offer any satisfactory explanation for their opinion. - [2] That is, when the angels take possession of their souls at the time of death. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab It is these who persist in doing wrong and continue firmly in the state of disbelief in Allah until the encounter with the angels of death who disembody their souls. There and then they express their willingness to submit to Allah and learn at last acceptance of their lot and claim they never did wrong. But the angels say to them: "But you did, and Allah is indeed 'Alimun of all you did". ### Bijan Moeinian These are the same people who will be put to death by the angels at the height of wrongdoing. They will have nothing to say in their defense except: "We did not do anything wrong!" No way! God knows exactly what you have done. ### Al-Hilali & Khan "Those whose lives the angels take while they are doing wrong to themselves (by disbelief and by associating partners in worship with Allâh and by committing all kinds of crimes and evil deeds)." Then, they will make (false) submission (saying): "We used not to do any evil." (The angels will reply): "Yes! Truly, Allâh is All-Knower of what you used to do. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali "(Namely) those whose lives the angels take in a state of wrong-doing to their own souls." Then would they offer submission (with the pretence), "We did no evil (knowingly)." (The angels will reply), "Nay, but verily Allah knoweth all that ye did; ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Those whose souls the angels seize while they wrong themselves will then offer ˹full˺ submission ˹and say falsely,˺ "We did not do any evil." ˹The angels will say,˺ “No! Surely Allah fully knows what you used to do. ### Taqi Usmani the ones to whom the angels brought death while they were (still) wronging themselves." Then, they will resort to submission, (yet will say), "We used to do nothing wrong.” (They will be answered) Why not? Allah knows well what you used to do. ### Abdul Haleem Those whose lives the angels take while they are wronging themselves will show submission: ‘We were doing no evil.’ ‘Yes you were: God knows fully everything that you have done, ### Arthur John Arberry whom the angels take while still they are wronging themselves. ' Then they will offer surrender: 'We were doing nothing evil. 'Nay; but surety God has knowledge of the things you did. ### E. Henry Palmer Those whom the angels took away were wronging themselves; then they offered peace: 'We have done no evil. ' - 'Yea! verily, God knows what ye did. ### Hamid S. Aziz "Those whom the angels take away while they are wronging their own souls. " Then will they offer peace and surrender, saying "We have done no evil (knowingly)." (The reply will be) "Nay! Surely Allah knows what you used to do. ### Mahmoud Ghali (The disbelievers are the ones) whom the Angels take up while they are unjust to themselves. So they will cast forth full submissiveness. "In no way were we doing anything odious." Yes indeed, (yet) surely Allah is Ever-Knowing of whatever you were doing. ### George Sale They whom the angels shall cause to die, having dealt unjustly with their own souls, shall offer to make their peace in the article of death, saying, we have done no evil. But the angels shall reply, yea; verily God well knoweth that which ye have wrought: ### Syed Vickar Ahamed "Those (disbelievers) whose lives the angels take in a state of doing wrong to their own souls. Hayır, şüphesiz Tanrı, sizin neler yaptığınızı bilendir. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Melekler, kendilerine (küfürleri sebebiyle) zulmedenlerin canlarını alacakları Zaman onlar: "Biz hiç bir fenalık yapmazdık" (diye diye) teslim (oldular). Hayır, Allah sizin neler işler olduğunuzu muhakkak ki çok iyi bilendir. ### İbni Kesir Melekler; kendilerine zulmetmiş olanların canını alırken: Biz, hiç bir kötülük yapmıyorduk, diyerek teslim olurlar. Hayır, Allah sizin neler yaptığınızı bilir. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı onlar ki, kendi kendilerine zulüm hali içindeyken melekler canlarını almıştı!" Böyleleri nihayet (hesap vermeye çağırıldıklarında): "Kötü bir şey yapma(k isteme)miştik biz!" (diyerek) boyun eğme tavrı takınacaklar. (Fakat onlara;) "Hayır!" (diye karşılık verilecek,) "Muhakkak ki, yapıp ettiğiniz her şeyi Allah eksiksiz biliyor! ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Melekler, kendilerine zulmedenlerin canlarını alırlarken "biz bir kötülük yapmamıştık." diyerek teslim olurlar. Şüphesiz, Allah, onların ne yaptıklarını çok iyi bilir. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Nefislerine zulmederlerken meleklerin, canlarını aldığı kimseler; "Biz hiçbir kötülük yapmıyorduk!" diye teslim olurlar. Allah, sizin yapmakta olduklarınızı çok iyi bilmektedir. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an O kimseler ki, kendi kendilerine kötülük etmeyi sürdürürken melekler onların canlarını almışlardı. İşte (Hesap Günü) bunlar teslim sancağını çekerek "Biz yaptıklarımızı kötülük olsun diye yapmamıştık" (diyecekler). "Yoo!"
