_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

عَمَّ يَتَسَٓاءَلُونَۚ

AAamma yatasaaloon

About what are they asking one another?

## Verse 2

عَنِ النَّبَأِ الْعَظ۪يمِۙ

AAani annaba-i alAAatheem

About the tremendous report

## Verse 3

اَلَّذ۪ي هُمْ ف۪يهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَۜ

Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoon

About which they differ.

## Verse 4

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَۙ

Kalla sayaAAlamoon

No, indeed! They will come to know!

## Verse 5

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoon

Then no, indeed! They will come to know!

## Verse 6

اَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْاَرْضَ مِهَاداًۙ

Alam najAAali al-arda mihada

Have We not made the earth a resting-place,

## Verse 7

وَالْجِبَالَ اَوْتَاداًۖ

Waljibala awtada

And the mountains as stakes?

## Verse 8

وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ اَزْوَاجاًۙ

Wakhalaqnakum azwaja

And We created you in pairs,

## Verse 9

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتاًۙ

WajaAAalna nawmakum subata

And We made your sleep rest,

## Verse 10

وَجَعَلْنَا الَّيْلَ لِبَاساًۙ

WajaAAalna allayla libasa

And We made the night a garment,

## Verse 11

وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشاًۖ

WajaAAalna annaharamaAAasha

And We made the day a living,

## Verse 12

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَـكُمْ سَبْعاً شِدَاداًۙ

Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidada

And We built above you seven strong ones,

## Verse 13

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجاً وَهَّاجاًۖ

WajaAAalna sirajan wahhaja

And We made a blazing torch,

## Verse 14

وَاَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَٓاءً ثَجَّاجاًۙ

Waanzalna mina almuAAsiratimaan thajjaja

And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water,

## Verse 15

لِنُخْرِجَ بِه۪ حَباًّ وَنَبَاتاًۙ

Linukhrija bihi habban wanabata

That We might bring forth thereby grain and plants,

## Verse 16

وَجَنَّاتٍ اَلْفَافاًۜ

Wajannatin alfafa

And densely growing gardens.

## Verse 17

اِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ م۪يقَاتاًۙ

Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqata

The Day of Decision is an appointed time: —

## Verse 18

يَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ اَفْوَاجاًۙ

Yawma yunfakhu fee assoorifata/toona afwaja

The day the Trumpet is blown, and you come in crowds,

## Verse 19

وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَٓاءُ فَـكَانَتْ اَبْوَاباًۙ

Wafutihati assamao fakanatabwaba

And the heaven is opened and becomes gates,

## Verse 20

وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَـكَانَتْ سَرَاباًۜ

Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanatsaraba

And the mountains are set in motion and become a mirage:

## Verse 21

اِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَاداًۙ

Inna jahannama kanat mirsada

Gehenna will be lying in wait,

## Verse 22

لِلطَّاغ۪ينَ مَاٰباًۙ

Littagheena maaba

For those transgressing all bounds, a journey’s end.

## Verse 23

لَابِث۪ينَ ف۪يهَٓا اَحْقَاباًۚ

Labitheena feeha ahqaba

They will tarry therein long ages.

## Verse 24

لَا يَذُوقُونَ ف۪يهَا بَرْداً وَلَا شَرَاباًۙ

La yathooqoona feehabardan wala sharaba

They will taste therein neither coolness nor drink

## Verse 25

اِلَّا حَم۪يماً وَغَسَّاقاًۙ

Illa hameeman waghassaqa

Save scalding water and purulence,

## Verse 26

جَزَٓاءً وِفَاقاً

Jazaan wifaqa

As meet reward.

## Verse 27

اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَاباًۙ

Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisaba

They expected not a reckoning,

## Verse 28

وَكَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا كِذَّاباًۜ

Wakaththaboo bi-ayatinakiththaba

And they denied Our proofs completely,

## Verse 29

وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ اَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَاباً

Wakulla shay-in ahsaynahu kitaba

But everything have We counted in a writ.

## Verse 30

فَذُوقُوا فَلَنْ نَز۪يدَكُمْ اِلَّا عَذَاباً۟

Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illaAAathaba

“So taste! And We will increase you not save in punishment!”

## Verse 31

اِنَّ لِلْمُتَّق۪ينَ مَفَازاًۙ

Inna lilmuttaqeena mafaza

For those of prudent fear is a place of safety:

## Verse 32

حَدَٓائِقَ وَاَعْنَاباًۙ

Hada-iqa waaAAnaba

Gardens and grapevines,

## Verse 33

وَكَوَاعِبَ اَتْرَاباًۙ

WakawaAAiba atraba

And well-matched maidens with swelling breasts,

## Verse 34

وَكَأْساً دِهَاقاًۜ

Waka/san dihaqa

And a cup overflowing.

## Verse 35

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ ف۪يهَا لَغْواً وَلَا كِذَّاباًۚ

La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwanwala kiththaba

They hear therein neither vain speech nor denial,

## Verse 36

جَزَٓاءً مِنْ رَبِّكَ عَطَٓاءً حِسَاباًۙ

Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisaba

As reward from thy Lord — a gift, a reckoning —

## Verse 37

رَبِّ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَاۙ الرَّحْمٰنِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَاباًۙ

Rabbi assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma arrahmani layamlikoona minhu khitaba

Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and what is between them, the Almighty. They have from Him no power to speak

## Verse 38

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلٰٓئِكَةُ صَفاًّۜ  لَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ اِلَّا مَنْ اَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَاباً

Yawma yaqoomu arroohu walmala-ikatusaffan la yatakallamoona illa man athinalahu arrahmanu waqala sawaba

The day the Spirit and the angels stand in ranks; they speak not save he whom the Almighty grants leave, and he will say what is right.

## Verse 39

ذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّۚ فَمَنْ شَٓاءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰى رَبِّه۪ مَاٰباً

Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maaba

That is the True Day, so let him who wills take his Lord as a journey’s end.

## Verse 40

اِنَّٓا اَنْذَرْنَا‌كُمْ عَذَاباً قَر۪يباًۚ يَوْمَ يَنْظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْـكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَن۪ي كُنْتُ تُرَاباً

Inna antharnakum AAathabanqareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamatyadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntuturaba

We have warned you of a near punishment: the day a man will look on what his hands sent ahead, and the false claimer of guidance will say: “Would that I were dust!”
