Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 77 / 200 · **Juz:** 3 · **Mushaf page:** 58 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-77 ## Arabic اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللّٰهِ وَاَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَناً قَل۪يلاً اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُمْ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَلَا يَنْظُرُ اِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكّ۪يهِمْۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ ## Transcription Inna allatheena yashtaroona biAAahdiAllahi waaymanihim thamanan qaleelan ola-ikala khalaqa lahum fee al-akhirati walayukallimuhumu Allahu wala yanthuruilayhim yawma alqiyamati wala yuzakkeehim walahumAAathabun aleem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those who sell Allah’s contract and their own oaths for a paltry price, such people will have no portion in the Next World, and on the Day of Rising Allah will not speak to them or look at them or purify them. They will have a painful punishment. ### Progressive Muslims The ones that purchase with God's pledge and their oaths a small price, those will have no portion in the Hereafter, and God will not speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection nor purify them, and they will have a painful retribution. ### Shabbir Ahmed Those who trade away Allah's pledge and their oaths for worldly gains, will have no portion in the Hereafter. Allah shall neither speak to them nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He make them grow their "Self". Development of the personality can only be accomplished in this life. They have incurred a torment of suffering. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Those who sell the covenant of God and their oaths at a cheap price: those have no portion in the Hereafter; and God will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He increase them in purity. God will not address or even regard them on the Day of Resurrection, nor perfect them, and their suffering will be painful. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment. ### Muhammad Asad Behold, those who barter away their bond with God and their own pledges for a trifling gain - they shall not partake in the blessings of the life to come; and God will neither speak unto them nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He cleanse them of their sins; and grievous suffering awaits them. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Lo! those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths, they have no portion in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He make them grow. Theirs will be a painful doom. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary There shall be no share in the Life to Come for those who sell away the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a trivial gain. On the Day of Resurrection Allah will neither address them, look at them, nor will He purify them.[1] A painful chastisement lies ahead of them. _Footnotes_ - [1] The reason is that, despite their worst crimes, they still thought that on the Day of Judgement they alone would be honoured with God's favour, and that towards them alone He would turn His gracious attention. They also entertained the belief that if they had been stained by any trace of sin, it would be washed away by the grace of their pious elders. Such people are warned here that the treatment meted out to them in the Next Life will be altogether contrary to their expectations. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Those who exchange Allah’s covenant or a vow to heaven or an oath that is binding for a miserable price featured in the vanity of the fleeting and ephemeral world shall be denied Allah’s grace Hereafter. Nor shall Allah address them, or look at them on the Day of Resurrection. He shall not bless them, and there awaits them a severe punishment. ### Bijan Moeinian Those who trade away their belief and sell their covenant with the Lord for a small price, they have no share of Hereafter. God will not look at them, not talk to them nor purify them on the Day of Resurrection; indeed there is an awful punishment in reserve for them. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allâh’s Covenant and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter (Paradise). Neither will Allâh speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful torment. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter: Nor will Allah (Deign to) speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleans them (of sin): They shall have a grievous penalty. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Indeed, those who trade Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a fleeting gain will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them, nor look at them, nor purify them on the Day of Judgment. And they will suffer a painful punishment. ### Taqi Usmani Surely, those who take a small price by (breaking) the covenant of Allah and their oaths, for them there is no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will neither speak to them, nor will He look towards them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them. For them there is a painful punishment. ### Abdul Haleem but those who sell out God’s covenant and their own oaths for a small price will have no share in the life to come. God will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection- He will not cleanse them [of their sins]- agonizing torment awaits them. ### Arthur John Arberry Those that sell God's covenant, and their oaths, for a little price, there shall be no share for them in the world to come; God shall not speak to them neither look on them on the Resurrection Day, neither will He purify them; and for them awaits a painful chastisement. ### E.
