Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 52 / 200 · **Juz:** 3 · **Mushaf page:** 55 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-52 ## Arabic فَلَمَّٓا اَحَسَّ ع۪يسٰى مِنْهُمُ الْكُفْرَ قَالَ مَنْ اَنْصَار۪ٓي اِلَى اللّٰهِۜ قَالَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ نَحْنُ اَنْصَارُ اللّٰهِۚ اٰمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِۚ وَاشْهَدْ بِاَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ ## Transcription Falamma ahassa AAeesaminhumu alkufra qala man ansaree ila Allahiqala alhawariyyoona nahnu ansaruAllahi amanna billahi washhadbi-anna muslimoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When ‘Isa sensed kufr on their part, he said, ‘Who will be my helpers to Allah?’ The disciples said, ‘We are Allah's helpers. We believe in Allah. Bear witness that we are Muslims. ### Progressive Muslims So when Jesus felt their rejection, he said: "Who are my supporters to God" The disciples said: "We are God's supporters, we believe in God and we bear witness that we have surrendered. " ### Shabbir Ahmed This is what the angels had told Mary. When Jesus grew up He was commissioned to Prophethood. As he sensed their rejection, he called, "Who are my supporters towards Allah?" The white-garbed ones replied: "We shall be [thy] helpers [in the cause] of God! We believe in God: and bear thou witness that we have surrendered ourselves unto Him! ### Marmaduke Pickthall But when Jesus became conscious of their disbelief, he cried: Who will be my helpers in the cause of Allah? The disciples said: We will be Allah's helpers. We believe in Allah, and bear thou witness that we have surrendered (unto Him). ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And when Jesus perceived their leaning towards unbelief, he asked: 'Who will be my helpers in the way of Allah?' The disciples[1] said: 'We are the helpers of Allah. We believe in Allah,[2] and be our witness that we have submitted ourselves exclusively to Allah. _Footnotes_ - [1] The word hawari means approximately the same as the word ansar in the Islamic tradition. In the Bible the usual terms are 'apostles' and 'disciples'. Jesus' chosen disciples were called apostles in the sense that they had been entrusted with a mission by him rather than in the sense of having been entrusted with a mission by God. - [2] At various places the Qur'an characterizes man's participation in the effort to establish the supremacy of Islam as 'helping God'. This needs a little explanation. God has endowed man with the freedom of will and choice, with the result that He does not resort to His omnipotent will to compel man either to do certain things or to refrain from others. He rather leaves man free to adopt the course that pleases him - be it that of either belief or unbelief, of either obedience or disobedience. God prefers to instruct man by means of persuasive argument and admonition, so as to bring home to him that even though he is free to disbelieve, disobey and defy the Will of God, his own interest and well-being lie in serving and obeying his Creator.Hence, directing people to the right path by persuasion and admonition is of concern to God, He regards those who contribute to this cause as His allies and helpers. This is, in fact, the most exalted position attainable by man. When a man performs Prayers, keeps his fast and worships God in other ways, he is merely on the level of service and subjection to God. But when a man strives to spread God's true religion and to enthrone it in actual life, he is honoured with the status of God's ally and helper, which is the zenith of man's spiritual growth. 'Literally, 'and be our witness that we are Muslims' - Ed. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But when ‘Isa could sense that disbelief was a very prevalent inclination among them, he asked: "Who will support me in the cause of Allah?" We are supporters of the cause of Allah, said the disciples, "We have believed in Allah to the point that our hearts have been impressed with the image of religious and spiritual virtues. We hold you as a witness to our conformity to Islam, the will of Allah". ### Bijan Moeinian When Jesus felt public’s resentment, he said: "Who will support me in my Devine mission?" His disciples replied: “We consider ourselves helpers of God. We believe in God; we are Muslims (Muslim in Arabic means submitter to God.) ### Al-Hilali & Khan Then when ‘Îsâ (Jesus) came to know of their disbelief, he said: "Who will be my helpers in Allâh’s Cause?" Dedi: Allaha (doğru giden yolda) bana yardım edecekler kim?" Havaariler: "Biziz Allahın yardımcıları. Allaha inandık. Sen de şahid ol ki biz, muhakkak müslümanlarız, dediler. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı İsa, onların hakikati reddettiklerinin farkına varınca sordu: "Kim Allah yolunda benim yardımcılarım olacak?" Beyazlara bürünmüş olanlar cevap verdi: "Biz, (Allah yolunda) senin yardımcıların olacağız!
