Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 23 / 200 · **Juz:** 3 · **Mushaf page:** 52 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-23 ## Arabic اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ اُو۫تُوا نَص۪يباً مِنَ الْكِتَابِ يُدْعَوْنَ اِلٰى كِتَابِ اللّٰهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلّٰى فَر۪يقٌ مِنْهُمْ وَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ ## Transcription Alam tara ila allatheena ootoonaseeban mina alkitabi yudAAawna ila kitabiAllahi liyahkuma baynahum thumma yatawallafareequn minhum wahum muAAridoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Do you not see those who have been given a portion of the Book being invited to let Allah's Book be the judge between them? They have been called upon to let God's writ be their law - and yet some of them turn away [from it] in their obstinacy, ### Marmaduke Pickthall Hast thou not seen how those who have received a portion of the Scripture invoke the Scripture of Allah (in their disputes) that it may judge between them; then a faction of them turn away, being opposed (to it)? ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Have you not noticed those who have been given a portion of the Book? Whenever their learned men are summoned to the Book of Allah to judge the differences between them,[1] a party of them turns away in aversion. _Footnotes_ - [1] They are asked to acknowledge the Book of God as the final arbiter in all matters, and to submit to its judgement, accepting as right whatever this Book holds to be right, and as wrong whatever it holds to be wrong. The Book of God referred to here is the Torah and the Injil, while the expression 'those who have been given a portion of the Book' refers to the Jewish and Christian religious scholars.
