Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 186 / 200 · **Juz:** 4 · **Mushaf page:** 73 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-186 ## Arabic لَتُبْلَوُنَّ ف۪ٓي اَمْوَالِكُمْ وَاَنْفُسِكُمْ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ اُو۫تُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ اَشْرَكُٓوا اَذًى كَث۪يراًۜ وَاِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَاِنَّ ذٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْاُمُورِ ## Transcription Latublawunna fee amwalikumwaanfusikum walatasmaAAunna mina allatheena ootoo alkitabamin qablikum wamina allatheena ashrakoo athankatheeran wa-in tasbiroo watattaqoo fa-inna thalikamin AAazmi al-omoor ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You will be tested in your wealth and in yourselves and you will hear many abusive words from those given the Book before you and from those who are idolaters. But if you are steadfast and have taqwa, that is the most resolute course to take. ### Progressive Muslims We will test you in your wealth and in yourselves, and you will hear from those who have been given the Scripture from before you and from those who set up partners much annoyance. ### Shabbir Ahmed O You who have attained belief! You will be tried in (establishing and defending the Divine System) in wealth, life, labor and resolve. You will be tested in your families, your people and in your character. You will hear much ridicule from those who were given the scripture before you, and from the idolaters. If you persevere and walk aright, this will be a confirmation of your determination. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation You will be tried in your wealth and in yourselves. And you will hear from those given the Writ before you, and from the idolaters, much hindrance. But if you are patient and in prudent fear: that is among the resolution of affairs. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation We will test you in your wealth and in yourselves, and you will hear from those who have been given the Book from before you and from the polytheists much annoyance. And if you are patient and righteous, then that is from a strength of conviction. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament You will certainly be tested, through your money and your lives, and you will hear from those who received the scripture, and from the idol worshipers, a lot of insult. If you steadfastly persevere and lead a righteous life, this will prove the strength of your faith. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira You will, nonetheless, be tried with your wealth and life, and will hear many untoward things from the followers of former Books and the infidels. But if you endure with patience and follow the straight path, it will surely (accord) with God's fixed resolve about human affairs. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination. ### Muhammad Asad You shall most certainly be tried in your possessions and in your persons; and indeed you shall hear many hurtful things from those to whom revelation was granted before your time, as well as from those who have come to ascribe divinity to other beings beside God. But if you remain patient in adversity and conscious of Him - this, behold, is something to set one's heart upon. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Assuredly ye will be tried in your property and in your persons, and ye will hear much wrong from those who were given the Scripture before you, and from the idolaters. But if ye persevere and ward off (evil), then that is of the steadfast heart of things. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (Believers!) You will certainly be put to test in respect of your properties and lives, and you will certainly hear many hurtful things from those who were granted the Book before you and those who have associated others with Allah in His divinity. If you remain patient and God-fearing[1] this indeed is a matter of great resolution. _Footnotes_ - [1] Muslims should not lose their self-control in the face of the Jews' invidious taunts and slander. The Jews' accusations, debased talk and false propaganda should not provoke the Muslims into adopting a posture either inconsistent with truth and justice or with the dignity, decorum and high standards of moral conduct that become men of faith. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab You people shall be afflicted with some disagreeable events and misfortunes to test your qualities. You shall experience loss in wealth and in lives and you shall hear injuriously contemptuous insults from those who received the Book before you as well as from those who incorporate with Allah other deities. If you are patient and forbearing and you entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah, you will have then considered matters with an attitude of mind reflecting high spirit and strong will. ### Bijan Moeinian You will be tried through your wealth and your life. You will be called names by the followers of the previous Scriptures as well as idol worshippers. But if you stand firm and lead a righteous life, you have used the means for success. ### Al-Hilali & Khan You shall certainly be tried and tested in your wealth and properties and in your personal selves, and you shall certainly hear much that will grieve you from those who received the Scripture before you (Jews and Christians) and from those who ascribe partners to Allâh; but if you persevere patiently, and become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2) then verily, that will be a determining factor in all affairs (and that is from the great matters which you must hold on with all your efforts). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Ye shall certainly be tried and tested in your possessions and in your personal selves; and ye shall certainly Hear much that will grieve you, from those who received the Book before you and from those who worship many gods. But if ye persevere patiently, and guard against evil,-then that will be a determining factor in all affairs. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran You ˹believers˺ will surely be tested in your wealth and yourselves,[1] and you will certainly hear many hurtful words from those who were given the Scripture before you and ˹from˺ the polytheists. But if you are patient and mindful ˹of Allah˺—surely this is a resolve to aspire to. ### Taqi Usmani Of course, you shall be tested in your wealth and yourselves; and, of course, you shall hear hurting statements from those who have been given the Book before you, and from those who associate (others with Allah in His divinity). If you observe patience and fear Allah, then this (observance) is among the matters of firm resolution. ### Abdul Haleem you are sure to be tested through your possessions and persons; you are sure to hear much that is hurtful from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with God. If you are steadfast and mindful of God, that is the best course. ### Arthur John Arberry You shall surely be tried in your possessions and your selves, and you shall hear from those who were given the Book before you, and from those who are idolaters, much hurt; but if you are patient and godfearing -- surely that is true constancy. ### E. Henry Palmer Ye shall surely be tried in your wealth, and in your persons, and ye shall surely hear from those who have had the Book brought them before you, and from those who associate others with God, much harm. But if ye be patient and fear,- verily, that is one of the determined affairs. ### Hamid S. But if you be patient and fear evil, verily, that is the determining heart of affairs. ### Mahmoud Ghali Indeed you will definitely be tried in your riches and your selves and indeed you will definitely hear much hurt from the ones to whom the Book was brought even before you, and from (the ones) who have associated; (i. e. have associated others with Allah) and in case you are patient and pious, then surely that is (an indication) of (true) resolve concerning His (i.e. the Commands of Allah) Commands. ### George Sale Ye shall surely be proved in your possessions, and in your persons; and ye shall hear from those unto whom the scripture was delivered before you, and from the idolaters, much hurt: But if ye be patient, and fear God, this is a matter that is absolutely determined. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed You shall certainly be tried and tested in your possessions and in your personal selves; And you shall certainly hear much that will cause pain for you, from those who received the Book before you and from those who worship many gods. But if you work hard (persistently and) patiently, and guard against evil— Then that will be a determining factor in all affairs. ### Amatul Rahman Omar You shall, certainly, be tried in your substance and lives and you shall certainly hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who set up equals (to God) a good deal of hurtful abuse. But if you are patiently persevering and guard against evil, then this (attitude) is worth being followed with constancy and firm determination. ### Ali Quli Qarai You will surely be tested in your possessions and your souls, and you will surely hear from those who were given the Book before you and from the polytheists much affront; but if you are patient and Godwary, that is indeed the steadiest of courses. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Andolsun ki, mallarınızla ve nefslerinizle imtihan edileceksiniz. Sizden önce hakikat bilgisi verilenler ve şirk ehli tarafından incitileceksiniz. Sizden önce kendilerine kitab verilenlerden ve Allah'a şirk koşanlardan birçok incitici şeyler işiteceksiniz. Eğer sabreder ve sakınırsanız işte bu, azme değer işlerdendir. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Mallarınızla ve canlarınızla mutlaka sınanacaksınız: Ve doğrusu, hem sizden önce vahiy verilenlerden hem de Allah'tan başka varlıklara ilahlık yakıştıranlardan birçok incitici söz işiteceksiniz.
