Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 181 / 200 · **Juz:** 4 · **Mushaf page:** 73 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-181 ## Arabic لَقَدْ سَمِـعَ اللّٰهُ قَوْلَ الَّذ۪ينَ قَالُٓوا اِنَّ اللّٰهَ فَق۪يرٌ وَنَحْنُ اَغْنِيَٓاءُۢ سَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَالُوا وَقَتْلَهُمُ الْاَنْبِيَٓاءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّۙ وَنَقُولُ ذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْحَر۪يقِ ## Transcription Laqad samiAAa Allahu qawla allatheenaqaloo inna Allaha faqeerun wanahnu aghniyaonsanaktubu ma qaloo waqatlahumu al-anbiyaabighayri haqqin wanaqoolu thooqoo AAathabaalhareeq ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Allah has heard the words of those who say, ‘Allah is poor and we are rich. ’ We will write down what they said and their killing of the Prophets without any right to do so and We will say, ‘Taste the punishment of the Burning.’ ### Progressive Muslims God has heard the words of those who said: "God is poor and we are rich!" We will record what they have said and their killing of the prophets without just cause; and We will Say: "Taste the retribution of the Fire!" ### Shabbir Ahmed Allah has heard the taunt of those who said, "Allah is poor and we are rich!" They say this since most of the first followers of the Messengers have been indigent (11:27). We will record everything they say, just as We recorded their killing of the Prophets unjustly. We shall record their saying with their slaying of the prophets wrongfully and We shall say: Taste ye the punishment of burning! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah has heard the saying of those who said: 'Allah is poor, and we are rich.[1] We shall record what they have said, and the fact of their slaying the Prophets unjustly, and we shall say to them: Taste now the torment of the Fire. _Footnotes_ - [1] This statement was made by the Jews. On the revelation of the Qur'anic verse (2: 245): 'Who of you will lend Allah a goodly loan?', the Jews began to ridicule it and said: 'Look, God has now gone bankrupt and has begun to beg of His creatures for loans.' (For this statement made by the Jews see the Tradition mentioned by Ibn Kathir in his comments on this verse - Ed.) ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Allah has heard the discourse of those of Ahl AL-Kitab who expressed their thoughts in words, saying: "Allah is poor whereas we are rich. " We will record their dissertation as well as their unjustified slaying of the prophets, and shall say to them at the predetermined moment: "Now taste the torment of burning in the Fire", ### Bijan Moeinian God indeed heard those [Jews] who jokingly said: "God is poor and we are rich. " I have recorded their saying and their [evil deeds such as] killing My Prophet for the simple reason that they were defending the truth. [In the Day of Judgment, ] I will tell them: “Taste the punishment of the Fire.” ### Al-Hilali & Khan Indeed, Allâh has heard the statement of those (Jews) who say: "Truly, Allâh is poor and we are rich!" We have certainly recorded their slurs and their killing of prophets unjustly.
