Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 152 / 200 · **Juz:** 4 · **Mushaf page:** 68 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-152 ## Arabic وَلَقَدْ صَدَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ وَعْدَهُٓ اِذْ تَحُسُّونَهُمْ بِاِذْنِه۪ۚ حَتّٰٓى اِذَا فَشِلْتُمْ وَتَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي الْاَمْرِ وَعَصَيْتُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَٓا اَرٰيكُمْ مَا تُحِبُّونَۜ مِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُر۪يدُ الدُّنْيَا وَمِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُر۪يدُ الْاٰخِرَةَۚ ثُمَّ صَرَفَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ لِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْۚ وَلَقَدْ عَفَا عَنْكُمْۜ وَاللّٰهُ ذُوفَضْلٍ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ ## Transcription Walaqad sadaqakumu AllahuwaAAdahu ith tahussoonahum bi-ithnihi hattaitha fashiltum watanazaAAtum fee al-amri waAAasaytummin baAAdi ma arakum ma tuhibboonaminkum man yureedu addunya waminkum man yureedual-akhirata thumma sarafakum AAanhum liyabtaliyakumwalaqad AAafa AAankum wallahu thoofadlin AAala almu/mineen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Allah fulfilled His promise to you when you were slaughtering them by His permission. But then you faltered, disputing the command, and disobeyed after He showed you what you love.* Among you are those who want this world and among you are those who want the next World. Then He turned you from them in order to test you – but He has pardoned you. Allah shows favour to the muminun. ### Progressive Muslims And God has fulfilled His promise to you, that you would overwhelm them by His leave; but then you failed and disputed in the matter and disobeyed after He showed you what you had sought. Some of you want this world, and some of you want the Hereafter. Then He let you retreat from them that He may test you; and He has pardoned you. God is with great favour over the believers. ### Shabbir Ahmed Allah made good His promise to you when you routed them by His leave. But then you wavered, disputed among yourselves, and disobeyed after He had shown you the victory you wanted. You were winning the battle of Uhud, but then some of you were distracted by the spoils of the world, while others were concerned with the Hereafter. You disengaged from the enemy and were tested according to His Law. When you mended, Allah pardoned you. Allah is full of Grace for the true believers. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And God was indeed true in His promise to you. When you were aware of them by His leave, when you had lost heart and disputed concerning the affair, and rebelled after He had shown you what you love[...]. Among you is he who desires the World; and among you is he who desires the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them that He might try you; and He has pardoned you; and God is bountiful to the believers. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And God has fulfilled His promise to you, that you would overwhelm them with His permission; but then you failed and disputed in the matter and disobeyed after He showed you what you had sought. God is with great grace over the believers. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament GOD has fulfilled His promise to you, and you defeated them by His leave. But then you wavered, disputed among yourselves, and disobeyed after He had shown you (the victory) you had longed for. But then, some of you became distracted by the spoils of this world, while others were rightly concerned with the Hereafter. He then diverted you from them to test you. He has pardoned you. GOD showers the believers with His grace. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira The promise made to you by God was verified when you destroyed (the foe) by His leave, until you were unmanned and disputed the order, and thus disobeyed (the Apostle) even after He had brought you in sight of (victory) you longed for. Some of you desired this world, and some of you the next. Then He put you to flight before (them) in order to try you. But (now) He has forgiven you, for surely God is kind to the faithful. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And Allah had certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing the enemy by His permission until [the time] when you lost courage and fell to disputing about the order [given by the Prophet] and disobeyed after He had shown you that which you love. Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter. Then he turned you back from them [defeated] that He might test you. And He has already forgiven you, and Allah is the possessor of bounty for the believers. ### Muhammad Asad AND, INDEED, God made good His promise unto you when, by His leave, you were about to destroy your foes - until the moment when you lost heart and acted contrary to the [Prophet's] command, and disobeyed after He had brought you within view of that [victory] for which you were longing. There were among you such as cared for this world [alone], just as there were among you such as cared for the life to come: whereupon, in order that He might put you to a test, He prevented you from defeating your foes. But now He has effaced your sin: for God is limitless in His bounty unto the believers. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Allah verily made good His promise unto you when ye routed them by His leave, until (the moment) when your courage failed you, and ye disagreed about the order and ye disobeyed, after He had shown you that for which ye long. Some of you desired the world, and some of you desired the Hereafter. Therefore He made you flee from them, that He might try you. Yet now He hath forgiven you. Allah is a Lord of Kindness to believers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah surely fulfilled His promise (of succour) when you were slaying them by His leave until the moment when you flagged and quarrelled among yourselves about the matter, and acted against the order of (the Prophet). Soon He showed you what you had intensely desired - for some among you sought this world and some of you sought the Next. Thereupon, in order to put you to a test He turned you away from your foes. Still He pardoned you after that[1] for Allah is Bounteous to those who believe. _Footnotes_ - [1] The failure of the Muslims was of such a serious nature that had God not pardoned them they might have been obliterated there and then. It was out of God's grace, support and patronage that after the Muslims had been overpowered by the enemy the latter were seized with perplexity and confusion, and withdrew. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Allah has kept His promise to you as was shown in putting your enemy to rout, Allah permitting, until you began to falter by reason of opposing arguments. Some were in favour of obeying the Prophet's command and maintaining their posts and the others against his command, running after booty, at a time when the Prophet was about to make the victory. Among you are those who are concerned only with the interests and pleasures of life below and its mundane things, and others whose main concern is Allah’s grace Hereafter. Then did Allah distract your minds and your attention and made you draw off from the battle field to test your true inclination and He afforded you forgiveness. Allah’s bounty abounds in those whose hearts have been impressed with the image of religious and spiritual virtues. ### Bijan Moeinian God indeed fulfilled His promise to give you victory [in the battle of ohud), giving you the upper hand at the beginning. It was you who disobeyed [the order of Commander Mohammad] and started a dispute among yourselves [and left your positions in order to secure your share of the confiscated materials.] Among you, there are those who are in love with this materialistic world and those who care about their Hereafter. Thus you were tried [to find out for yourself who fights for the acquisition of wealth and who fights for the cause of God.] That is how you lost and had to retreat. The Lord, however, forgave you as He is the most gracious to the believers. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And Allâh did indeed fulfil His Promise to you when you were killing them (your enemy) with His Permission; until (the moment) you lost your courage and fell to disputing about the order, and disobeyed after He showed you (of the booty) which you love. Among you are some that desire this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then He made you flee from them (your enemy), that He might test you. But surely, He forgave you, and Allâh is Most Gracious to the believers. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission Were about to annihilate your enemy,-until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order, and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then did He divert you from your foes in order to test you but He forgave you: For Allah is full of grace to those who believe. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Indeed, Allah fulfilled His promise to you when you ˹initially˺ swept them away by His Will, then your courage weakened and you disputed about the command and disobeyed,[1] after Allah had brought victory within your reach. Some of you were after worldly gain while others desired a heavenly reward. He denied you victory over them as a test, yet He has pardoned you. And Allah is Gracious to the believers. ### Taqi Usmani Allah has surely fulfilled His promise to you when you, with His will, were killing them off, until you showed weakness and disputed in the matter and disobeyed after He had shown you what you liked.Among you there were some who were seeking the mundane, and among you there were others who were seeking the Hereafter. After that, He reversed your position against them, so that He may test you. Of course, He has forgiven you. Allah is All-Gracious to the believers. ### Abdul Haleem God fulfilled His promise to you: you were routing them, with His permission, but then you faltered, disputed the order, and disobeyed, once He had brought you within sight of your goal- some of you desire the gains of this world and others desire the world to come- and then He prevented you from [defeating] them as a punishment. He has now forgiven you: God is most gracious to the believers. ### Arthur John Arberry God has been true in His promise towards you when you blasted them by His leave; until you lost heart, and quarrelled about the matter, and were rebellious, after He had shown you that you longed for. Some of you there are that desire this world, and some of you there are desire the next world. Henry Palmer God has truly kept His promise, when ye knocked them senseless by His permission, until ye showed cowardice, and wrangled, and rebelled, after he had shown you what ye loved. Amongst you are those who love this world, and amongst you are those who love the next. Aziz Allah has truly kept His promise, when you routed them by His permission, until you showed cowardice, and wrangled, and rebelled, after He had shown you what you loved (booty). Amongst you are those who love this world, and amongst you are those who love the Hereafter. Therefore He made you flee from them to try you; but now He has pardoned you, for Allah is Lord of grace unto believers. ### Mahmoud Ghali And indeed Allah has already sincerely (made good) His promise (Literally: was truly sincere in His promise) to you as you overwhelmed them by His permission until you were disheartened and contended together about the Command (i. e. the Command of Allah) and disobeyed (i.e. disobeyed the Messenger) even after He had shown you what you love (The reference is to the Battle of 'Uhud when the archers deserted their posts to share in the spoils). Some of you (there were) who would have the present (life) (Literally: the lowly (life), i.e., life of this world) and some of you (there were) who would have the Hereafter. Thereafter He has made you turn about away from them, that he may try you. And He has already been clement towards you; and Allah is The Owner of Grace upon the believers. ### George Sale God had already made good unto you his promise, when ye destroyed them by his permission, until ye became faint-hearted and disputed concerning the command of the apostle, and were rebellious; after God had shewn you what ye desired. Some of you chose this present world, and others of you chose the world to come. Then he turned you to flight from before them, that he might make trial of you: -- But he hath now pardoned you; for God is indued with beneficence towards the faithful; - ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And Allah did indeed fulfill His promise to you, when you, with His permission were about to destroy your enemy— Until you hesitated and fell to disputing about the order, and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the things won over in the war) which you love. Among you are some who desire this world and some that desire the Hereafter. He diverted you from your enemies in order to test you. Yet surely, He forgave you: And Allah is full of Grace to those who believe. ### Amatul Rahman Omar And certainly Allâh had made good His promise to you when you were slaying them to pieces by His leave (in the Battle of Uhud), until, when you became lax and disagreed among yourselves about the (implications of the) order (of the Prophet), and you disobeyed (your leader Abdullah bin Jubair), after He had brought that (victory) which you desired within your sight (He withdrew His help from you). There were some among you who desired the present life and among you were those who desired the life to come. Then He turned you away from (gaining clear victory over) them (- the enemy), that He might reveal your (true) selves. Yet He surely pardoned you. Allâh is Gracious to the believers. ### Ali Quli Qarai Allah certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were slaying them with His leave, until you lost courage, disputed about the matter, and disobeyed after He showed you what you loved. Some of you desire this world, and some of you desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them so that He might test you. Certainly He has excused you, for Allah is gracious to the faithful. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü (Uhud'da) Allah elbette size sözünü tuttu; varlığınızdaki Allah Esma'sının elverdiği kuvve ile (biiznihi) onları yok etmek üzereydiniz. Ancak Allah size sevdiğinizi (zafer ve ganimet) gösterdiğinde zayıflık gösterdiniz ve size verilmiş olan hükme isyan edip tartıştınız. Sizden kimi dünyalığı istiyordu (görev yerini bırakıp ganimete koştu), kimi de sonsuz geleceği (Rasulün hükmüne uyup direndi ve şehid oldu). Sonra Allah, size ne durumda olduğunuzu göstermek için geri çevirdi. Bununla beraber sizi affetti. Allah iman edenlere fazl sahibidir. ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı Andolsun, Allah size verdiği sözünde sadık kaldı; siz O'nun izniyle onları kırıp geçiriyordunuz. Öyle ki sevdiğiniz (zafer)i size gösterdikten sonra, siz yılgınlık gösterdiniz, isyan ettiniz ve emir hakkında çekiştiniz. Sizden kiminiz dünyayı, kiminiz ahireti istiyordu. Sonra (Allah) denemek için sizi ondan çevirdi. Ama (yine de) sizi bağışladı. Allah mü'minlere karşı fazl (ve ihsan) sahibi olandır. ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali Allah, elbette size verdiği sözü tuttu. O'nun izniyle düşmanlarınızı yok etmek üzereydiniz; ne var ki Allah size arzuladığınız zaferi gösterdikten sonra gevşediniz, peygamberden gelen emre aykırı davrandınız ve itaatsizlik ettiniz. Ama Allah günahlarınızı bağışladı; zira Allah'ın inananlara lütfu sınırsızdır. ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Andolsun, Allah, izniyle, onları (müşrikleri) kırıp geçirdiğiniz sırada size olan va'dini gerçekleştirdi. Nihayet sevdiğiniz şeyi (zaferi) size gösterdikten sonra, za'f gösterdiniz. (Peygamber'in verdiği) emir konusunda tartıştınız ve emre karşı geldiniz. İçinizden dünyayı isteyenler de vardı, ahireti isteyenler de. Sonra sizi denemek için onlardan yüzünüzü çevirdi. (Kaçıp hezimete uğradınız. Buna rağmen) sizi bağışladı. Allah, mü'minlere karşı çok lütufkardır. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Filhakika Allahın size va'di doğru çıktı, o hengamda onları doğruyordunuz ta o sevdiğiniz galebeyi Allah size gösterdikten sonra ısyan edib verilen emirde nizaa kalarak yıldığınız lahzeye kadar ki kiminiz dünyayı isteyordu, kiminiz Ahıreti isteyordu, sonra Allah sizi mübtela kılmak için onlardan çevirdi, maamafih sizden afiv de etti, Allahın mü'minlere bir fazlı var ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Gerçek şu ki, sizler Allah'ın izniyle onları kesip doğrarken, Allah'ın size va'di doğru çıktı. Nihayet o sevdiğiniz zaferi Allah size gösterdikten sonra isyan edip verilen emirde çekişip yıldığınız ana kadar ki, kiminiz dünyayı, kiminiz ahireti istiyordu. Sonra Allah, sizleri denemek için onlardan (geri) çevirdi. Bununla birlikte sizi de bağışladı. Çünkü Allah'ın inananlara bir lütfu vardır. ### Gültekin Onan Andolsun, Tanrı size verdiği sözünde sadık kaldı; siz O'nun izniyle onları kırıp geçiriyordunuz. Öyle ki sevdiğiniz (zafer)i size gösterdikten sonra siz yılgınlık gösterdiniz, isyan ettiniz ve buyruk hakkında çekiştiniz. Sizden kiminiz dünyayı, kiminiz ahireti istiyordu. Sonra (Tanrı) denemek için sizi ondan çevirdi. Ama (yine de) sizi bağışladı. Tanrı inançlılara karşı fazl sahibi olandır. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Andolsun ki Allahın size olan va'di Onun izn (-ü keremi) ile onları (düşmanları kolayca) öldüregeldiğiniz, hatta sevmekde olduğunuz (zafer) i de size gösterdiği zamana kadar — yerine gelmişdi. (Sonra) siz yılgınlık gösterdiniz, isyan etdiniz, (verilen) emir hakkında çekişdiniz. İçinizden kimi dünyayı istiyor, (yine) içinizden kimi ahireti diliyordu. Sonra Allah size ibtila vermek için sizi onlardan geri çevirdi. (Bununla beraber) sizi muhakkak bağışladı da. Zaten Allah mü'minlere bol lutf-ü inayet saahibidir. ### İbni Kesir Gerçekten Allah'ın size olan vaadi doğru çıktı; O'nun izni ile kafirleri kırıp biçiyordunuz ki içinizden, dünyayı isteyenler ve ahireti isteyenler bulunduğundan sevdiğiniz zaferi size gösterdikten sonra; baş kaldırdığınız, verilen emir hakkında çekiştiğiniz ve yıldığınız zaman, imtihan etmek için Allah sizi mağlubiyete uğrattı. Bununla beraber sizi bağışladı. Allah mü'minlere lütufkardır. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Allah elbette size verdiği sözü tuttu; O'nun izniyle düşmanlarınızı yok etmek üzereydiniz; ne var ki Allah size arzuladığınız (zaferi) gösterdikten sonra gevşediniz, (Peygamber'den gelen) emre aykırı davrandınız ve itaatsizlik ettiniz. Aranızda (sadece) bu dünyaya ilgi duyan kimseler olduğu gibi, ahirete gönül verenler de mevcuttu: Bunun üzerine Allah, sizi sınamak için düşmanlarınızı yenmenize mani oldu. Ama O, şimdi günahlarınızı bağışladı, zira Allah'ın inananlara lütfu sınırsızdır. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı -Allah, sevdiğinizi gösterdikten sonra dağıldığınız, emir konusunda tartıştığınız ve isyan ettiğiniz ana kadar, size olan vaadini gerçekleştirmişti. O'nun izni ile kafirleri öldürüyordunuz. Sizden kimi dünya hayatını istiyor, kimi ahiret hayatını istiyordu. Sonra denemek için onların karşısında sizi bozguna uğrattı. Artık Allah sizi affetmiştir. Çünkü Allah, müminlere karşı çok lütufkardır. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Kendi izniyle onları öldürdüğünüz sürece Allah, size (yardım) va'dini doğruladı: Nihayet siz korktunuz, Allah size sevdiğiniz(galibiyet)i gösterdikten sonra (verilen) emir hakkında (birbirinizle) çekişip isyan ettiniz: Kiminiz dünyayı istiyordu, kiminiz ahireti istiyordu. Sonra Allah sizi denemek için onlardan geri çevirdi (yenilgiye uğrattı. Buna rağmen) sizi bağışladı. Allah mü'minlere karşı çok lutufkardır. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Andolsun ki, siz onları Allah'ın izniyle öldürmekteyken, Allah size vaadini doğrulamıştı. Nihayet siz korkuya kapıldınız, yapılacak iş hususunda çekiştiniz. Ve Allah, sevdiğiniz şeyi size gösterdikten sonra isyan ettiniz. İçinizden bir kısmı dünyayı istiyordu, bir kısmınız ise ahireti istiyordu. Sonra sizi imtihan etmek için onlardan uzaklaştırdı. Yemin olsun, sizi affetmişti. Allah, müminlere karşı lütuf sahibidir. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an Ve doğrusu Allah size verdiği sözü tuttu; hatırlayın ki O'nun izni sayesinde köklerini kazıyordunuz; ne ki arzuladığınız zaferi Allah size gösterdikten sonra gevşeyip (Peygamber'in) emri konusunda tartıştınız ve itaatsizlik ettiniz. İçinde dünyaya özlem duyanlar olduğu gibi, ahirete özlem duyanlar da vardı. Bunun üzerine Allah, sizi sınamak için düşmanlarınızı yenmenize mani oldu. Fakat O (şimdi) sizi bağışladı; zaten Allah inananlara karşı çok lütufkardır. ### Erhan Aktaş (Eski Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an Elbette Allah, size verdiği sözü tuttu; O'nun izni ile onları kırıp geçiriyordunuz. Ne var ki arzuladığınız zafere kavuştuktan sonra, gevşediniz. Verilen emre uymayarak, itaatsizlik ettiniz. Kiminiz dünyayı isterken, kiminiz de ahireti istiyordu. Bundan dolayı Allah sizi sınamak için, size olan desteğini kesti. Ancak yine de sizi affetti. Allah, müminlere karşı gerçekten lütuf sahibidir. ### Ali Rıza Safa — Kur'an-ı Kerim Gerçek Gerçek şu ki, Allah, size verdiği sözü tuttu. O'nun izniyle, onları kırıp geçirdiniz. Ama Allah, istediğinizi size gösterdikten sonra gevşediniz, tartıştınız ve karşı geldiniz. Kiminiz dünyayı; kiminiz sonsuz yaşamı istiyordu. Allah, verdiği sözü tuttu; anlaşmazlığa düşüp dağılıncaya kadar onun izniyle kafirleri kırıp geçirdiniz. İstediğiniz zaferi göstermesinden sonra isyan ettiniz. Kiminiz dünyayı istiyor, kiminiz de ahireti istiyordu. Sonra sizi, yıpratıcı bir imtihandan geçirmek için onların karşısında bozguna uğrattı. Allah'ın inanıp güvenenlere ikramı bol olduğu için yine de sizi affetti. ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir Yemin olsun ki siz O'nun izni ile düşmanlarınızı öldürürken, Allah size olan sözünü yerine getirmiştir. Sonunda gevşeklik göstermiştiniz; (Allah) size sevdiğiniz (istediğiniz) şeyi gösterdikten sonra durum hakkında birbirinizle tartışmış ve isyan etmiştiniz.[1] Dünyayı isteyeniniz de ahireti isteyeniniz de vardı. Sonra (Allah) denemek için sizi onlardan geri çevirmişti.
