Surah Ali 'Imran (The Family of Imraan) — سورة آل عمران - **Verse:** 120 / 200 · **Juz:** 4 · **Mushaf page:** 64 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-120 ## Arabic اِنْ تَمْسَسْكُمْ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْۘ وَاِنْ تُصِبْكُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَفْرَحُوا بِهَاۜ وَاِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـٔاًۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُح۪يطٌ۟ ## Transcription In tamsaskum hasanatun tasu/humwa-in tusibkum sayyi-atun yafrahoo bihawa-in tasbiroo watattaqoo la yadurrukumkayduhum shay-an inna Allaha bima yaAAmaloona muheet ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley If something good happens to you, it galls them. If something bad strikes you, they rejoice at it. But if you are steadfast and have taqwa, their scheming will not harm you in any way. Allah encompasses what they do. ### Progressive Muslims If any good befalls you it disturbs them, and if any bad befalls you they rejoice with it. And if you are patient and righteous their planning will not harm you at all. God is Encompassing all they do. ### Shabbir Ahmed If something good happens to you, it grieves them but if a calamity befalls you, they rejoice at it. Remain steadfast and keep walking aright, and no amount of their plotting or cunning will harm you. But if ye persevere and keep from evil their guile will never harm you. Lo! Allah is Surrounding what they do. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary If anything good happens to you they are grieved; if any misfortune befalls you they rejoice at it. But if you remain steadfast and mindful of Allah their designs will not cause you harm. Allah surely encompasses all that they do. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab If good fortune falls to you, be it through victory or through martyrdom, they come to be actuated by envy and grieved at heart. If you are befallen with a disaster or wedded to a calamity, they rejoice beyond a common joy. If you be patient and entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah, you shall not be hurt by their wicked plots and intrigues. Allah besets them on all sides and He is 'Alimun of all that they do. ### Bijan Moeinian When something good happens to you, they become jealous and when you are in trouble they rejoice. If you continue your righteous way of life, their schemes cannot hurt you as God is aware of what they do [and will protect you accordingly.] ### Al-Hilali & Khan If a good befalls you, it grieves them, but if some evil overtakes you, they rejoice at it. But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqûn [the pious - See V.2:2], not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allâh surrounds all that they do. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali If aught that is good befalls you, it grieves them; but if some misfortune overtakes you, they rejoice at it. But if ye are constant and do right, not the least harm will their cunning do to you; for Allah Compasseth round about all that they do. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran When you ˹believers˺ are touched with good, they grieve; but when you are afflicted with evil, they rejoice. ˹Yet,˺ if you are patient and mindful ˹of Allah˺, their schemes will not harm you in the least.
