Surah Al-Qasas (The Stories) — سورة القصص - **Verse:** 68 / 88 · **Juz:** 20 · **Mushaf page:** 392 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-qasas/verse-68 ## Arabic وَرَبُّكَ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَٓاءُ وَيَخْتَارُۜ مَا كَانَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُۜ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَتَعَالٰى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ## Transcription Warabbuka yakhluqu ma yashaowayakhtaru ma kana lahumu alkhiyaratu subhanaAllahi wataAAala AAamma yushrikoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Your Lord creates and chooses whatever He wills. The choice is not theirs. Glory be to Allah! He is exalted above anything they associate with Him! ### Progressive Muslims And your Lord creates what He wills, and He selects; it is not for them to select. Glory be to God, He is far above the partners they set up. ### Shabbir Ahmed Your Lord does create and choose according to His Laws. No choice do they have (against the Divine Laws). Glorified is Allah and High above all that they associate with Him. Exalted is Allah and high above what they associate with Him. ### Muhammad Asad AND [thus it is:] thy Sustainer creates whatever He wills; and He chooses [for mankind] whatever is best for them. Limitless is God in His glory, and sub­limely exalted above anything to which they may ascribe a share in His divinity! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Thy Lord bringeth to pass what He willeth and chooseth. They have never any choice. Glorified be Allah and Exalted above all that they associate (with Him)! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Your Lord creates what He will and chooses (for His tasks) whomsoever He will. It is not for them to make the choice.[1] Glory be to Allah. He is exalted far above their associating others in His Divinity. _Footnotes_ - [1] This, in fact, is a refutation of shirk. Allah objects to the setting up of countless gods from among His creatures by the mushriks and assigning to them from themselves of attributes and ranks and offices, and says: "We Ourselves bless with whatever attributes, capabilities and powers whomever We like from among the men, angels, jinns and other servants whom We have created, and employ whomever We will for whatever service We will. But, how and where from have the mushriks gotten the authority that they should make whomever they like from among My servants remover of hardships, bestower of treasures and answerer of prayers? That they should make someone the lord of rain, another the giver of jobs and children, still another bestower of health and ill-health? That they should look upon whomever they please as the ruler of a part of My Kingdom and assign to him whichever of My powers they like? Whether it is an angel or a jinn, or a prophet, or saint, or anybody else, he has been created by Us. Whatever excellences he has, have been granted by Us, and whatever service We willed to take from him, We have taken. Therefore, the selection of someone for a particular service does not mean that he should be raised from the position of a servant to godhead and be worshipped instead of God, invoked for help, prayed to for fulfillment of needs, taken as maker or destroyer of destinies and possessor of divine attributes and powers. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And Allah, your Creator, creates what He will and chooses what He will and whom He will whereas they -the infidels- and people at large cannot impose on Allah their choice in any matter irrespective of its nature and consequently they have no choice. Glory be to Him and extolled are His glorious attributes. He is infinitely beyond all they incorporate with Him. ### Bijan Moeinian Your Lord creates whatever He wills and chooses [whoever He desires for a given task to be performed anywhere in the universe. ] The choice takes place at the Lord’s discretion [therefore, if a creature is chosen as an Angel, Prophet, etc., he should not be worshipped as his high rank is given to him by God and not earned by himself.] Glory belongs only to God, the Most High. He is far above needing a partner, as the idol worshipers think. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And your Lord creates whatsoever He wills and chooses: no choice have they (in any matter). Glorified be Allâh, and exalted above all that they associate (as partners with Him). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Thy Lord does create and choose as He pleases: no choice have they (in the matter): Glory to Allah! and far is He above the partners they ascribe (to Him)! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Your Lord creates and chooses whatever He wills—the choice is not theirs.
